Red Bull have confirmed Liuzzi and Klien as their drivers, but not which one will take the second race seat. http://www.autosport.com/newsitem.asp?id=41331&s=5

Oh, and Heidfeld's first name is "Nick" (see first post). I think that he would be a much better bet than Pizzonia. Let's not forget that Pizzonia was absolutely blown away by Webber in the Jaguar.

My money would be on Heidfeld, Pizzonia doesn't have great pace and he and Webber don't get on very well either -- Webber calling him various names etc. I'm not sure if Pizzonia made everyone think twice when he said Jaguar gave Mark better equipment etc. but I still don't think he is a good team player and probably not the best bet.

Are Red Bull still considering using both drivers and alternating them, if that's possible? I'm sure I read something about that a few days ago.

And Giles, get on MSN ;).

Nick the prick. He didnt turn the world around in the Sauber, but Kimi and Giancarlo did!! Im hoping for Antonio 👍

He has a rugged soul, and i think the best drivers often have this quality, Senna, Hunt and Mansell endured these qualitys.

Anyway, I was always hoping for Davison.

Verstappen?

I want pizza...

Plus, Heidfeld is German...

I'm at work at the moment. I have two Messenger accounts, and I'm logged into the other one right now. And no, you can't have the address ;)

I remember Heidfeld outqualified Raikkonen 10-7 when the were teamed together at Sauber, and scored more points too.

Heidfeld has outperformed every team-mate he's had except Frentzen and Alesi, and even then wasn't dominated by them. I think he'd make an excellent number two driver at Williams and would provide a useful yardstick to measure Webber by.

Ok I admit he has been good, didnt know he outqualified him 10-7 but Kimi got him in the races and had lots of pure pure speed.
He trashed Antonio in the shoot out in nov. who was having a baby and had his head elsewhere.
Nick drove for his f1-life.

BMW is on your side Wastegate, and I just dont know.

He has the image of a stone; worse than Ralph, and no Hard-Cora to go either :sly:

I want a COLOURFUL driver, one that can put a smile on my face :)

That Liuzzi is unproven, but he seems like the sort, Klien should test.More.

I see that Red Bull Racing have fired David Pitchforth and Tony Purnell, and replaced them with Arden International boss Christian Horner plus Opel Motorsport Director Gunther Steiner. Linkage

I thought that the Pitchforth/Purnell team was a good one, although I had been picking up indications of much stress within the team as a result of personality clashes between Mateschitz and the two of them.

I guess this puts paid to the rumours surrounding Jordan + Arden.

If all goes well we will have 2 Dutch drivers in the Minardi this year.Christian Albers has already signed a contract and negotiations with Jos Verstappen are going well. 👍

This team seems to change team its bosses almost as often as I change my socks. Even being a soccer manager seems to have more job security. I hope Christian Horner keeps his F3000/GP2 team going so he'll have something to fall back on...

Robert Doornbos is also on track to snare a seat at Jordan, but I hadn't heard anything about negotiations with Jos ?

It also sounds like WilliamsF1 are a little more biased towards Nick as a second driver:
Frank admitted that Australia's Webber, and Munich-based BMW, favour Germany's Heidfeld. "Mark, I think, is a little uncomfortable about Antonio," Williams admitted, "but we'll do what is best, if he is quicker."

Yes, Robert Doornbos is likely to drive for Jordan this year. There are negotiations however between Minardi and Jos(according to Forzaminardi.com).Sources from the team say that the news isn't official yet but will be confirmed on January 11th.

Red Bull Racing has one slight difficulty with Klein and Luizzi. Klein can't do the 3rd driver role due to driving too many GPs last year.

Yeah, I remember reading about that, and Red Bull said they were determined to have him on-board. Now he's sighned so I guess they'll have to work something out.

I'm hoping that Klien gets the driving role though 👍

ITS NICK HEIDFELD

yes, its official, Nick Heidfeld has scored the Williams race seat for season 2005. the details of the contract have not been mentioned yet but for a least this year, nick has the drive. lets hope he performs and does well this year, but not too well. we dont want him outshining mark webber now

How did williams manage this? Last season hey had R Shumacher and JPM. Now they have Webber and Heidfeld. Granted they are still good drivers but it is a pretty major step down.

Damn, it was between him and Pizzonia, and I was hoping Pizzonia to get the seat. :grumpy:

Mark Webber? Pffff.....

Like him or not,Mark Webber is an excellent driver and one that will challenge for the title this year.I'm rooting for Kimi. The new Mclaren is very promising and it's time Kimi finally won it.Although with Michael still around,i doubt he will be able to pull it off.

If I was Webber I'd be happy. He was at Jaguar with Pizzonia. Pizzonia bombed out big time and from what I remember reading was a whiney little PITA to deal with. So Webber finally gets a semi-competitve car and BAM Pizzonia is back in his life.

Heidfeld is a decent, working like, low maintanence driver. The perfect Williams driver and compliment to Webber. I will admit Pizzonia did an OK job in standin last season, better then Gene...I see it more as a fluke. In general Pizzonia isn't worth anything.

Williams needs this. Two solid, workman like, drivers. A car that is conservative and a season where the infighting isn't so intense. I'm not a fan of Willaims but I hope they can turn it around this season. It seems they have made all the right steps thus far in the pre-season.

Just getting rid of the dead wood i say. Those two had a number of season to perofrm, and yet, with the exception of 2003, they didnt. its as simple as that. A change is needed at Williams and now they have 2 driver who fit the Williams mould.

Low-maintenence, hard working, hungry for success young drivers willing to succed. these guys dont have an possy of people following them everywhere they go, they dont care about their public persona, all they care about is getting the best out of thier cars. I think Webber and Heidfeld is one of the best driver combos going round. Go Team Willy

have to agree. And many drivers have praised Webbers dedication to the job the last year or so.

And as far as the thing with pizzonia, he dug his own grave. Takin a shot at webber & jaguar about them apparently not giving him a fair go when it was almost definite that Webber would fill JPM's seat & Pizzonia was filling in for Ralf. And the funny thing was, jsut a few days after he made that comment, Webber went and finished ahead of him in the following race by a few positions. I think he jsut might of had the last luagh, dont you

Who? :)

I know who Monteiro is but who's the other guy.Must have a rich dad who bought him a seat at Jordan.

Karthikeyan has been a race winner in British F3 and the Nissan World Series, and is a former winner of the F3 Korean Superprix. Like Monteiro, he has close ties with Trevor Carlin, the Jordan team's new Sporting Director.

You'd have to say that without their sponsorship packages, neither would be an obvious choice for an F1 team. But this year is likely to be a hanging around (at the back of the grid) and waiting for next year kind of season for Jordan/Midland.

Is Monteiro the first Portuguese driver to race in Formula1? I can´t remember others.

Anyway, good news. 👍

Pedro Chaves would have been the previous Portuguese - but I don't think he was the first either.

[edit] Zoot. Wrong on both counts, Chaves was the first, and Pedro Lamy was the most recent.

Montiero would be the third Portuguese, and could very quickly become the most successful. Chaves never qualified for a GP in 12 attempts for Coloni, but Lamy scored one point for Minardi back in '95. [/edit]

I'm really glad about the Willaims choice, it's a good set of drivers and I think they can do a really good job. :D

im a bit off with the jordan selection. Monteiro had his moments of brilliance during his time at champcars. Got his dog of a reynard chassis up the front in the first race of the season, which was impressive. but besides a copule more top 5's, nothing special.

the indian dude was mentioned as a possible minardi pilot a few years ago, but the sponsorship never came thoguh. obviously by having close ties to trevor carlin helped big time.

is it just me, or has jordan lost their 'youthful, fun spirit' ever since it got taken over by midland? or is it just me being sad about loosing the Jordan name in f1?

Sorry to say, but you're still wrong. Monteiro is the fourth Portuguese driver to get into Formula 1.

The one you're missing out, is a driver that was in the sport a long long time ago, by the name of Nicha; MÁRIO ARAÚJO ("NICHA") CABRAL. Apparently he only raced four grand prixs.

Born on 15 Janeiro 1934 (!)
First GP: Monsanto, 23 August 1959
Last GP: Monza (Italy), 6 Setember 1964
Teams: Cooper and Derrington

The team is still known as Jordan, the cars are still known as EJ's, and Eddie Jordan still has a part in the team.

Tiago Monteiro came in second place in the World Nissan Series, where he raced for Carlin last year. Monteiro was also the 5th best driver in the world by AutoSport, and won the Portuguese Driver of the year award by the Portuguese Edition of Autosport, though without much competition except for Carlos Sousa who did exceptionally well in Dakar.
