I was just coming here to post the same thing.

A concussion and a sprained ankle. Un-f'n-believable, man.

So, maybe we'll see him in a car soon? I like Kubica.

well he is preparing for this weekend's race so we might see him as early as next week , if he passes the medicals of course

But still, US Gp is over a couple of days so no need for a new thread.

Well its not logical to have discussion about Indy start on page 3 and 4 , and I'm viewing 100 posts per page imagine those with 10 posts per page or 50 :) .... and this is the F1 forum what would happen if there wasn't a thread for every race it would be pointless lol ....

Appie. No. This is the discussion thread for the Canadian GP.

I've changed the title once already. Change it back please. Create a new thread for the US GP.

EDIT: I've changed the title again.

Today at my lunch break, I went to Formula1.com to see what the diagnoses had been on Kubica and I was absolutely astonished to see that he only suffered a sprained ankle and a concussion. I could not believe it at all and was just shocked that there was nothing more. This accident and resulting injuries are a testament to the strength and safety of the F1 car's monocoque. This news was also a relief, as I have enjoyed Kubica being on the grid, as he has been a pretty good driver so far in his short F1 career.

Good on Jarno too for visiting him.

Anyone know what caused the crash? Driver error on Kubica's part?

I think Alonso is losing the plot.

McLaren favour Hamilton - Alonso

World champion Fernando Alonso believes his McLaren team are giving preference to his rookie team-mate Lewis Hamilton.

The Spaniard had misgivings as soon as he joined the team at the end of 2006, he told Spain's Cadena Ser radio.

He said: "From the first moment, I wasn't completely comfortable. I am in an English team, with an English team-mate, who is doing brilliantly.

"We knew all the support and help would go his way. It is something I understand and I'm not complaining."

Alonso added that he remained confident of winning a third straight drivers' title.

In the Canadian GP Alonso must have made 4 or 5 errors that were entirely his own fault. It was a very poor race by his standards and he certainly has no one else to blame but himself.
These comments will annoy McLaren a lot. They won't like it, especially after the commotion from the Monaco GP. Is it true though? Well there may be a language and cultural barrier of sorts but Alonso's experience should give him an advantage within the team. I just think Hamilton has been so good and so reliable that it has rattled Alonso's cage. I hope he does'nt remain this sour for long because he is arguably the best driver in F1 on form alone. But when he drives bad, like at the Canada GP then it's irrelevant.
Let's see what happens at the USGP.

Fernando has a tendency to start losing faith in himself if he feels the team isn't 110% behind him, and it shows in his results. Admittedly, he did lose in the safety car lottery, but it's happened before.

Yeah, Renault, you didn’t want me to win the title because I was going to McLaren.

The stewards suck, F1 isn’t a sport! Oh no, my engine blew up… It’s not fair!

McLaren, you don’t want me to win because I’m whi—uh, not British.

Nobody loves me. :([/Alonso]

Man that guy gets pissy when things aren’t going his way.

Unfortunately he also has a bad tendency to always shift blame off himself and onto anyone he can including the FIA, other drivers, and even his own team. While there is little doubt he is a remarkably tallented F1 driver, and I really like his competitive nature, he could have learned something from Schumacher in that it is possible to be extremely competitive, and still accept responsibility and not blame others, even when they may be at fault.

A great example of this was when Schumy's car failed near the end of the Japanese GP which cost Schumy the championship - if it was Alonso he would have been kicking and screaming, blaming the loss on the incompetence of his mechanics. Schumy on the other hand was extremely gracious in his misfortune, and was quick to congratulate Alonso on winning the championship.

Frankly I was wondering how long it was going to be before the marriage of Alonso and McLaren was going to start getting ugly. Although I didn’t expect it to happen this quickly. Then again I also didn't expect o see Alonso drive the way he did this weekend and to see Hamilton drive so brilliantly!

While I agree he lost one of the SC lottery games. I'd call it a wash, as both Alonso and Hamilton actually won the SC lottery big time when the first SC car came out, as they had pitted just before, and this not only allowed them to catch up to the leaders, but then most everyone in front of them had to pit which put them behind Alonso.

However, he totally won the "Drive Like Your Qualifying for the WRC" and not DNF lottery. :)

He might've won it, but not really - he was then punished for pitting while the SC was officially out.

Let me retrace my words: this will not be Lewis Hamilton's year to win the title. I am very proud for Lewis Hamilton. I think a win for him was eminent. It is an awesome acheivement for him. I didn't get to see the race at all. * The accident R. Kubica was horrific. Testament to the designers of the car for providing such a sturdy and safe car. Kubica talks about that he thinks he can make ready for Indianapolis this coming Sunday. He still has to be cleared by the FIA. I don't know how much I've gotten to see this terrible crash in highlights. Which is why I'm never fascinated or enthused by crashes. It's great that R. Kubica isn't banged up for months or anything like that.

F1's heading to Indianapolis next weekend. Good luck to all. Perhaps Hamilton could go back-to-back in wins. Probably could sweep the North American rounds. I don't think Lewis Hamilton is done winning just yet.

I've began to doubt on that statement. After how many rounds? 6 or something? He's leading the championship by 8 points..Or 6...Many have said that Alonso and the Ferrari drivers will outpace him in the longrun but how long is that longrun? So far, he definitly showed he's a favourit for the title, at least IMO. Alonso started on 2nd but screwed his race up, Alonso never had Lewis controlled at Monaco. If I'm to make one statement, it would not be towards Mclaren, but rather towards Kimi: Focus!

Same goes for Alonso and Massa. When Alonso started first at Monaco, he showed complete control of his pace, while Lewis went wild trying to catch up. At Canada, he started mucking up corners once he wasn't first.
Massa, since owning the field at Barcelona, didn't show much pace since.

Kimi, on the other hand, got himself an expensive contract, so he can afford racing slowly

I'm going to have to be away for F1 races more often. Every time I'm not around a British driver wins.

Haven't read the whole of this thread yet, so:

Great podium. Heidfeld was comfortably second fastest all race, and deserved a podium. Wurz was opportunistic and scored well.

Good race for Kovelainen, he needed that.

Go Sato!

Kubica's a very lucky boy; escaped with only a broken leg from an accident that big? Gosh. Hope he recovers well.

Yay Hamilton!

Yep, been through the thread now and saw that. Good to hear.

Bee
Taku was brilliant once again, one wonders what he could have done back at BAR if he was like this.

He would've finished 12th.

Reminded me of the time Damon Hill passed a Ferrari in an Arrows. lol

Passed Michael Schumacher whilst in an Arrows.

Not sure but is this the first podium this year that hasn't been locked out by McLaren and Ferrari drivers? lol

Yep.

If Lewis wins back-to-back, I'll be speechless. That would be an amazing feat and no doubt he'll go for it. Bring on Indy!👍

After Damon Hill won his first race, at Hungary in 1993, he followed it with wins in the next 2 races. So it can be done.

Having a sprained ankle is no fun at all. And especially considering how the drivers need their feet and their ankles to make the most of racing a car, it can feel pretty bad. I've had a sprained ankle before. I was out on the grass back in middle school when I came across this little hole in the grass. I ended up spraining my ankle and not attending class for the rest of the day. I have no idea how long I was sidelined. Worst about it was that class didn't start that day. But yeah- sprained ankle = no fun.

WOW! Also note the STR behind the wall. JUST missed!

This goes to show the real speed of F1. I wish with sports on TV that they would show some real-time footage instead of whoring the slow-mo so much.

Kubica wasnt the only one to have a lucky escape, note the guy in white down the bottom:

There was an even closer call earlier...

:)

This was the slow-motion footage. I'm trying to find if anyone posted the overhead real-time footage, as that really put it in perspective how fast Ralf was going and how close that varmit came to being the dinner special at Villeneuve's restaurant.

I seriously question their sanity. What kind on animal would want so much noise? If I were them, I'd move out after the first practice. I'd rather swim to land than risk my life in front of Ralf and Anthony.

Is that a beaver?
No, its a marmot, AKA groundhog, AKA woodchuck. It is a large rodent most closely related to the Squirrel, but a good deal larger.

There is a large family of them that live on the island... which is particularly odd as they normally live in mountainous regions. This isn't the first time they have appeared during the Canadian GP event. I'm surprised they have not removed them from the island as I seriously doubt they are native to the island, and they could cause a serious accident!

👍
