I agree with the stewards on that one, both Massa and Fisichella know the rules and, although this time round not much happened as they exited the pits, the red light is on for a reason and under different circumstances there could have been an incident or two.

Good Kubica đź‘Ť (He was the BMW Yoshi is on about) Bad Massa and Fisi đź‘Ž.

That was an entertaining race. Lewis and Nick were supreme, full points to them for delivering the results.

Alonso was just funny, I enjoy watching him struggle. :P

Ferrari have it all to do for the rest of the season. I don’t know if they can pull off a 2006-style turnaround. Seem like it’s now going to be a battle between Lewis and Alonso (which I sincerely hope Lewis wins).

Thankfully Kubica was okay from that accident, although I’m disappointed that on the morning news the only footage from the race that they showed was Kubica’s crash. đź‘Ž

I wonder what BMW will do in terms of replacing him. Glock probably can’t do F1 and GP2, and Vettel has the reserve role in his contract as far as I’m aware (he was called test and reserve driver in the press releases when he was signed for 2007). Yet somehow I feel Vettel isn’t quite ready for this step, yet.

I also thought Hiedfeld drove brilliantly today, especially after recovering from that nearly "choreographed" hard spinout late in the race... of course with the SC making so many appearances, it helped get the lead lap cars a chance at the end to move up.

Uh, Heidfeld didn’t spin, I think you’re thinking of Rosberg.

C'mon Bee lets be honest about Sato's pass on Alonso.....

The fact that Sato was faster than Alonso is impressive enough, let alone the fact that he was able to pressure Alonso enough that Alonso thought it was better to let him pass than try to fight him. Mind you, I think Sato is the only driver in F1 with such a presence that Alonso would be scared and just slow to a stop a let him past rather than trying to fight him.

Ferrari, terrible showing from the Scuderia to be frank, but not enitirely their fault, until Massa was black flagged. I guess thats given Kimi some breathing room.

Yeah, it’s just dismal. I have no idea how they dropped so quickly. It was only a few weeks ago in Spain where Massa dominated. I find it difficult to believe that they lost so much time (relative to the field) at the Paul Ricard test…

Incidentally, a great call by the FOX announcers when going onboard with Alonso during one of his numerous rally adventures: "Let's ride with the two-time world champion whoooooo....gets it all wrong. That's going to be the Alonso line"

Ahaha! That’s an awesome call.

I certainly expect to read a lot of speculation on the chances of Schumy making a return to F1 in 2008.

I remember in Spain, Weber said that all he needed to do was make a phone call and Schumacher would be on the grid for the race on Sunday. It would be interesting to see him return, and I have little doubt he could make a challenge for the title if he did.

Indeed, it was surprising to see Michael at the Canadian GP. He can’t seem to stay away from the sport, so I wonder how much he wants to drive again and if he’s willing to do a few full GP seasons again.

Yeah, on the news here they showed us the "spectacular crash." Then, they gave about 2 seconds to mention Hamilton being the first black driver to win in F1. The reporter said, "good for him." It's nice to see them report about something they know nothing about.

From what I read on the internet (I don't know how much of it is true), Michael was kind of forced out. So I wouldn't doubt that he still wants to race.

I think at this point, I would love to see Michael Schumacher return to Formula 1. Had this been a couple years ago, I would not feel that way, but after last year's race at Brazil, my opinion had changed with regards to Michael. I had always had the upmost respect for his abilities as a driver, but never really liked him. I guess it was just one of those, now that he is going to be gone, I am going to miss seeing him on the grid. It is especially true since Kimi has been a complete and utter disappointment this season after the Austrialian Grand Prix.

Honestly...the Schumacher era is over, let it rest, done and dusted. Right now it's time for other drivers to take their chance, if Schumacher came back in it'd be like Beckham in the England line up, it'd just be all Schumi this and Schumi that again

Besides, remember all the other drivers who have attempted to makea comeback to their careers? Mansell, Villeneuve et al all did so ... and how many of them were successful?

This cannot possibly in any way be worse than the Hamilton rear end kissing thats going on now. "Yellow helmeted driver, winning for McLaren...comparisons to Senna must be drawn" etc. James Allen seriously sounded like he was letting one go after a severe bout of constipation with his "WIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNSSSSSSSS" when Hamilton crossed the line.

Hamilton is a fantastic driver, but I cannot help but wonder how differently he would be seen if he broke into F1 in a mid pack team, like most other rookies.
Personally, the Heidfeld and Wurz were more impressive in the race. Four cars have a realistic chance of winning, and when three are, for various reasons, like not equating a red light to stop, or not equating the lack of tarmac ahead with a corner, not in a position to do so, I don't find it that surprising when the fourth car takes it. Not taking anything away from him at all though, it was a fantastic drive and he deserved it completely.

Also, about Wurz. He's straight gangsta, playa. I was laughing into my breakfast hard at his podium hand twitches.

Edit: Now that I think about it, I'd ba much more impressed with Hamilton if it wasn't for James Allen and his twattish gurgling.

OK... as there is already interest in why MS left and speculation on the possibility of his return to F1 I started the following thread for those interested in discussing this so we don't clutter the 2007 Canadian GP thread with talk about a driver that not only wasn't in the race, but isn’t even in the current F1 season. :)

Here is the thread:

Well, he said they will surely start...not "must be drawn", whilst he's still a tw*t you can't really twist his words to make him sound worse (which is hard enough as it is)...bit unfair though isn't it...being less impressed with Hamilton cause of some loud mouth in the commentary box

Probably managed that when he was slicing through the field...

According to the BBC, Kubica has only a concussion and sprained ankle, not the broken leg that seemed to be confirmed

Fair call. I make it a point to pay as little attention to him as possible, so no arguments about probably misquoting him.

I was thinking about the unfair thing a bit, but the way I see it, I'd be a lot more impressed, or at least less *oh my god he's doing well Allen will never shut up about this ever* if I hadn't heard about EVERY single sector/corner/farting contest Hamilton had surpassed Alonso in. Or rather the TWO TIME WORLD CHAMPION IN A SIMILAR CAR. Impressive yes, but after the first one hundred thousand times I find myself hoping Hamilton has a bad result or two ONLY so Allen will have to shut up.

Ferrari should be able to bounce back though, Indy is generally kind to them.

BMW has yet to confirm anything in his status

Shock, relief and happiness - the BMW Sauber F1 Team experienced it all during the Canadian Grand Prix. Here, you will find reactions to an eventful race.
The shock was the horrendous accident that happened to Robert Kubica on lap 27. The relief came halfway through the race when the team got the news from initial medical reports that he had not suffered any serious injuries. By the time the race was over, the crew was able to be happy with the fantastic result of Nick Heidfeld finishing second.
This is the team's first podium of 2007 and its highest finish. The team received even more good news that Robert Kubica is in a Montreal hospital undergoing thorough medical checks and, according to doctors reports, should be released on Monday.

Nick Heidfeld: "More than anything else I am happy with the news that Robert is okay. We hoped to get a podium and we were speculating about maybe getting third, but didn't expect second. More importantly, what is satisfying is I think I had a very good chance to finish second even in normal race conditions without so many safety cars, and Fernando being penalized. I was pulling away from him, I had a good gap after the stop and this was unexpected. Great thanks to the team as I think they have developed the car very well. Until quite late we didn't know how strong we were because I had so many problems over the weekend, especially on Saturday. Then seeing the pace I was doing I spoke to the team and asked them to confirm that it was really as good as I thought. The race was great and definitely the best moment was the start where I overtook Fernando and was right behind Lewis in the slipstream. In the beginning I was a bit worried about Fernando as I was not only looking forward but looking back a bit. After that I just kept the car on the road, which was quite complicated."

Mario Theissen (BMW Motorsport Director): "This was the most emotional race weekend we have experienced with our new team. After this race which was full of incidents we have two reasons to be very happy today: Firstly, according to the first medical reports, Robert has escaped this very heavy accident relatively unscathed. Then Nick laid the foundation stone for our first podium of the season yesterday with his third in qualifying. Today he put in a very strong performance and drove to second on his own merit. Congratulations to him and the entire BMW Sauber F1 Team. I believe Robert would have also come close to the podium today."

Willy Rampf (Technical Director): "Most important is the news Robert isn't badly injured. This is thanks to the high safety standards the FIA have instigated over the past years. Before the accident Robert was in a promising position and on course to get valuable points. We hope he recovers quickly, but we are still waiting for news. For Nick our race strategy paid of. After the start he took advantage of Alonso's mistake and then drove a strong race. He was constantly in second position without losing contact to the front and this was not only due to the safety car periods. All in all it was a very difficult race, and second place is fantastic for us."

Oh believe me, far from defending him and I agree completely, the git really does get on my nerves and no doubt will throughout the season, but I guess I've learnt to tone him out a bit and concentrate on the racing

This site says Kubica is uninjured

http://formula-1.updatesport.com/ne...dlines/Kubica-uninjured-team-report/view.html

Robert Kubica will leave hospital after an over night stay, following his spectacular and violent crash during the Canadian Grand Prix.

Kubica was a passenger from the moment his BMW launched in a collision with Jarno Trulli’s Toyota at over 170mph, and the impacts and barrel rolls that followed led to many believing he would have suffered serious injuries.

Reports indicate that the Pole lost consciousness briefly, and speculation that he may have broken a leg has been contradicted by the team who say that although they have only the hospital information to go on, the word is that Kubica is uninjured.

It remains to be seen whether he will be fit to race at Indianapolis in one weeks time, and the team have said the decision will be made following medical checks next week.

even if he isn't I don't think they will let him race next week just to be safe

If it was me in that car I would also like to see a shrink for a week , imagine the horror of seeing that wall coming at 170mph , and rolling over so many times....

Was it me or did they at one point when the safety car was out use a canadian safety car (a white honda civic) because like the mercedes ran out of petrol.....??? anyone got a pic?

Yes I think they did. The safety car had pulled over to assist at the Kubica accident and that car was used instead.

Given the speed Kubica was travelling at and the force of impact, I doubt if he remembers anything of it at all. If ever you've been in a car accident, you probably know the feeling.

I thought the white one was just the doctor/medic speeding to the accident, with the rest of the cars just not-passing him, hence making it seem pacecar-ish?

They said he suffered from concussion (unsurprisingly) so as you said he wouldn't remember much if anything.

Still unclear but there is hint that he will be possibly driving in Indy , taken from BMW F1 website

In our latest "Track Talk", Mario Theissen looks back on an eventful Canadian Grand Prix. The relief that Robert Kubica had survived his massive crash without incurring a major injury was followed by the BMW Motorsport Director's delight at Nick Heidfeld's runner-up finish.

Dear motor racing enthusiasts,

This has been the most emotional weekend since the BMW Sauber F1 Team entered the sport. Following an eventful Canadian Grand Prix, we've have two reasons to be happy: According to the doctors, Robert Kubica survived his horrible crash relatively unharmed. He is still in a Montreal hospital for extensive examinations but the doctors have announced that he might check out as early as Monday. Having seen the pictures of the accident, this is incredible. At the same time, it also is a testament to the high safety standards of the FIA.

The joy regarding the good news concerning Robert's state of health was followed by the jubilation that followed Nick's runner-up finish. With his third grid position secured in Saturday's qualifying, he laid the foundation for our first podium finish of the 2007 season. With this result, we have achieved our goal of securing a podium finish by our own means. Nick delivered a truly convincing performance and never was at risk of losing his second place. Therefore, he deserved to finish runner-up, thus providing us with the BMW Sauber F1 Team's best result to date. Congratulations to him and the entire crew. I believe Robert also would have been in a position to fight for a podium finish.

We have not only consolidated our position as third power but also have 36 World Championship points to our tally, with just six rounds of the season contested. This means that we have scored two points more in the first third of this year's championship than in the entire 2006 season.

However, there's no time for a breather as the team flies by charter to Indianapolis as early as Monday. The speedway is renowned all around the world and stands for American motor racing like no other venue. Only there, will the decision be made as to whether Robert is fit enough to get back behind the wheel.

Sincerely
Mario Theissen

how did the title chnage to indy?

Kubica discharged from hospital
Monday, 11, June, 2007, 19:31

Robert Kubica has been discharged from hospital, less than 24 hours after his massive crash in the Canadian Grand Prix.

The BMW Sauber driver was released from MontrealÂ’s Sacre Coeur hospital at noon on Monday, and drove himself away in a BMW X5.

The accident occurred on lap 27 of SundayÂ’s race, when Kubica struck a concrete wall with terrifying force and barrel-rolled across the track after clipping the back of Jarno TrulliÂ’s Toyota on a flat-out section of road.

Miraculously, he emerged from the accident virtually unscathed. Intensive CT scans and other checks revealed only mild concussion and a sprained ankle.

“I have no pain and feel well,” the 22-year-old Pole said as he left the hospital.

“I want to thank everyone for the medical attention I received and for all the good wishes.

“[BMW motorsport director] Mario Theissen and other team members came to visit me, and also thanks to Jarno Trulli who came as well.

“I am happy that I have been able to leave the hospital so quickly and will now prepare for the race in Indianapolis.”

Before being given the all-clear to race in this weekendÂ’s US Grand Prix, Kubica will have to undergo further tests by the FIA medical delegate at the track on Thursday, as is standard procedure following big accidents.

The regulations give teams until 4pm on Thursday to confirm their driver line-up for the weekend

I was just coming here to post the same thing.

A concussion and a sprained ankle. Un-f'n-believable, man.

So, maybe we'll see him in a car soon? I like Kubica.
