WTF...

Baseball is an Olympic Sport????

After this year's games, it'll be no-more. We'll see if they bring it back eventually or not... I think people were complaining about the US "winning too much."

It's ok, we're having cheese rolling, darts and snooker at the 2012's :sly:

Don't forget argumentation.

edit: Also... Good God! The women discus throwers have AWFUL technique. No surprise that the men throw farther with a heavier discus.

We won Tug of War in 1908

Some of the points scoring in favour of China has been quite funny. The scoring in the gymnasts final (one with Beth Tweddle in) was quite bemusing. Even as a neutral with no knowledge of gymnastics, it was quite obvious that the American was better than the Chinese girl (16, my arse!). Still, that's what will happen.

The scoring in Olympic Boxing has always been a joke, too.

Oh yeah, the boxing is terrible. Because the system is so bad I found myself looking at the scores half the time and missing the shots that counted!

And the scoring in gymnastics has become a joke.

So I guess anything that has to be judged is "a joke". Would you guys prefer the Olympics to be only sports and not contests?

The BMX 1/4 finals are on here. The racing is great, the track looks just awesome, but the Australian commentators are clueless.

Was gonna say here we go again in women's gymnastics, but thankfully the judges didn't

it up this time. The Americans not keeping it close and the Chinese messing up helped too...

In other news... Americans have been having it pretty rough today, at least in Track.

More on gymnastics, it looked to me like the Canadian got royally screwed in the Men's Trampoline Final.

With the exception of maybe olympic boxing (which has been a joke this time), any activity that requires a panel of judges to score isn't a 'sport' in my eyes.

Rhythmic gymnastics, synchronized swimming, diving, dressage, figure skating, ski jumping, drifting... Most of these i'd class as dancing. Dancing isn't sport, it's an unfortunate and badly judged by-product of drinking too much alcohol IMO.

That's rediculous and completely undermines the huge fitness, balance, and co-ordination skills of those participating.

Just watching the womens gymanastic bar events makes you see how far beyond the pervieved limit in terms of aero acrabatics and such. And the pure strength, balance and co-ordination of the male gymnastics is purely awesome. The average person would struggle to hold their own weight on a bar or rings, not compare that to how many can kick a football?

All these sports have huge physical elemnts to them, be it team work, endurance, co-ordination, balance or strength. Don't slander it by comparing it to what you can do drunk at a wedding party.

I don't doubt for one second the amount of time and effort all the competitors put into their events (and notice i only mentioned Rhythmic gymnastics, not parallel bars, not rings, not pommel etc) I just don't consider them to be sport. I could dedicate my whole life to being the best hopscotch player in the world - but it wouldn't make me worthy of a place in the Olympics.

I presume the 200m men's final is today?

Anyone know what time?

:odd: Can't find a time table anywhere. The schedule has it later on this afternoon. Could be anytime between 1pm (GMT) and 3pm. I'd guess somewhere in the middle.

But rhythmic dancing requires no less flexibility than a marathon requires cardio' endurance. It's just more difficult to measure flexibility in a competitive and quantitive way.

And the diving guys aren't built solid because it looks good!

And first drugs cheat is coming through, possible Ukranian decathlon silver medalist.

First page of the official olympics site....

22:20 Athletics Men's 200m Final Scheduled

Beijing is GMT +8, so that'll be 3:20 here (probably)

Stick to your Hopscotch practise, Dan...
