2012 Malaysian Grand Prix

But the past two races have been big "what-ifs" for almost everyone. It's Kimi's job now to turn another potential "what-if" in China into a "This-is-it!"

Yes. I almost want to see a processional race, just so we can see where everyone truly stands. Almost. Ah well, might not have to wait too long. Bahrain is round 4 follow by Barcelona. One of those will let us know.

... Add to that a DRS zone as well. It use to be the first race of the year which is usually conservative as well when everyone still getting up to speed with their cars.

Only twice though. In 2006 due to Melbourne being busy with the commonwealth games. In 2010, the circuit was neutered by the bumpy loop that was part of the endurance layout. Bumpy tight corners, making it impossible to stay close to the guy in front.

Mexican here showing some pride. The race almost gave me a heart attack. I kept losing hope then having it restored, especially after the last stop where Checo went in a lap late but then managed to pull 7 seconds down to 2 in 6 laps. Just insane.

Here's a nice little factoid:

Would've been the first actually exciting DRS overtake had Perez held it together to have an another chance at 1st. I was so looking forward to the final battle with the Sauber catching the Ferrari so quickly, but sadly it didn't happen.

It was a very entertaining race overall. Looking forward to China.

Yeah the BBC mentioned that it has been 41 years since a Mexican F1 driver has been on pole. An amazing achievement for Sergio especially considering how long he has been in F1, the country must be really proud. :)

Yeah, couldn't help but think of that during the race...it was Pedro's last F1 race until that fateful weekend at the Norisring, and he was running strong until the BRM (which was actually quite reliable that year) let him down.

So true, I think they shouldn't let stupid celebrities like him onto the grid. I mean, I understand someone who is an employee of a racing team refusing an interview because they are busy with a car, but Mr. Wilson was just a real 🤬 🤬 🤬 🤬 🤬 cucumber.

What did Owen Wilson do? They tried to interview him and he ignored them?

Those rumours were floating around after Australia. Just wishful thinking from the Italian media.

Trulli is well past his sell-by date. Decent qualifier still, but a complete non-entity in the races. I'm surprised he lasted in F1 as long as he did. He was probably good for testing the car, but I strongly suspect he stayed in F1 that long simply because people forgot he was even there.

Alonso's victory prize, from Montezemolo. Considering the dog Alonso drove to victory, I'd ask for a 599 FXX instead of this ugly FF. But hey, for a nice van ... it's a nice van :D

^boy that F2012 must be hell to drive for Ferrari to give Alonso an FF for winning one race! What does he get if he wins another? :sly:

Without the five place penalty and barring any bad luck like the rest of the top runners, he might have been 3rd.

You say that... but he did have the fastest lap of the entire race by 3 tenths of a second, and is a fantastic passer...

but yeah... what-if :)

In my opinion, without a doubt, Perez's engineering cost him the race. The commentators really did sum it up well, immediately sighing.

Really a shame because it's quite obvious that as soon as you are forced to alter your driving style, you loose your rhythm, which lead to him making that mistake.

I think it is due to mindset as he really didn't alter his driving until making a mistake. He probably thought he would show Sauber that he is capable to go into the lead without risking too much, then he made a mistake and took more into consideration what the team said then. I was rooting for him to win towards the end, shame about the mistake but that 2nd place means he has got more points in this race than he achieved the whole of last season.

The crazy races so far and the competitiveness of all the cars in and around the top 10 sure is making a big impact on the constructors championship. This is the time for drivers of the midfield teams to get more noticed as the performance gap is not too big compared to last season.

Alonso is not doing too badly to be leading the championship while in damage limitation mode. Will be interesting to see how Mercedes do in the next few races and if they have really a car only good at qualifying but more closer to midfield in race trim. I also want to see how competitive the Lotus is, they maybe 2nd or 3rd fastest team, and well done to Kimi on getting the fastest lap in the end.

He would probably still out perform Massa in that.

It's rumoured that HRT's prize for finishing in the points is this.

One could argue that Perez was "gifted" his position through a series of bad moves by other teams complicated by poor weather.

But I do believe Perez has a brighter future than Kovalainen.

Once again, you are wrong. He ran consistent wet laps and semi-wet laps, as well as having the third fastest overall lap of the race, which occured in the dry. He was not gifted, he actually had a solid run. The difference between the stuff your spewing about Kovalainen and Perez is, Kovalainen was running in a championship car and only did it once due to being gifted. Sauber don't have (at the moment) a championship car. If anything it's at best fighting for third or fourth fastest on the grid.

If you look at the lap/time charts you'll see that Perez was very consistent with his run. The strategy also helped, but as we've told you it only does so much if you can't pull out fast times to work in unison and keep you at the top.

Alonso will probably out perform Massa in that as well.:sly:

Dhandes where were you? You could have jinxed Alonso for a Perez win.

Though I am glad that Alonso won, I just like Perez's underdog status.

He rudely ignored Martin Brundle and when asked if this was his 2nd F1 race he'd been to, he replied in a very 🤬 tone. Don't know if that's how he normally talks, but he just seemed really rude.

I recorded the race, so maybe I can put a video up, but I don't know how to edit it so I just get that 30 second piece. Does anyone know a good, free way to trim videos???

Nice of them to paint it in the team livery colours of red and rust!

Although its probably unfair to give away the team's motor home as a prize.
