2012 Nissan GTR [0-60: under 3 seconds]

What was the point of that test?

yeah i sort of agree.. besides price the 2 cars really arnt on the same level at all and
when i first saw this vid this morning , lets just say i wasnt shocked . it was about as bad as the road and track test of the 2013 GTR vs the ZL1 Camaro..

it was interesting to see they got 0-100 out of the car in 7.3 without launch control.... that seems about right as i ran 6.9-7.0@102 in the 1/8th mile which puts it sub 7 secs 0-100 with it .. probably close to 6.8 ish... thats moving...but then again i think the aventador was like 6.1 or something  even though their 0-60s are dead even

What's with these odd match ups in the last few days, usually you make a match up like this if you want to demonstrate how fast the new model is, not how they still get beaten by a car in a different class.

yeah they had the jaguar vs the GTR on top gear.. that didnt end well... then car and driver did the 2013 GTR vs the 991 carerra and Z06 that was a bit better especailly the Z06 part..

and insideline just did the 2013 GTR vs the Z06 with the carbon ceramic and the cup tires package... it actually beat the GT-R by a second in the road course part..but you know those tires are game changers..so it didnt hurt my feelings that bad :indiff:

Cue Clarkson-esque comeback:

"So, the Zed Oh Six is a second faster than the big Nissan.

But let's repeat that test...

(long dramatic pause)

How do the Cup tires compare to the ones that were on the GT-R?

the new dunlops on the 2012/13 model are the best yet and a pretty good tire for a runflat they are d all around better (except for wear) anreduce understeer compared to the bridgestone potenzas that were originally on the car but nothing like a barely legal race cut slick tire.... i figure they are good for about 2 secs on your average road course... those things are more comparable to like a hoosier or something...

the reason the GTR doesnt come with a tire like that is the GTR chief engineer is really all about balance and the car being well rounded in the wet and all conditions is just as important to him as say a nurburgring time

in japan nissan has something called a club track edition GTR that runs slicks... its pretty much an all out weekend track car and not street legal...

Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires are still road-legal... but the amount of tread on one of those is about as legal as the pigtailed girls flashing IDs in "casting couch" videos.

In other words... legal, but just barely. Give it one trackday and they'll get illegal very quick.

Not that Nissan's tires are not hardcore:

But Pilot Sport Cups are one of the few road-going tires I know that you are expressly not supposed to use in the rain.

Granted, the cold conditions in that test probably hampered the tire, but it would hamper the Dunlops, too.

And double-granted, the GTR might have gone just as fast on the same tires, but as said in the GTR thread before, the tires that come as stock come as stock, and those are the tires the chassis and suspension are developed around.

EDIT: Oops. Tree'd. Amazing tires on that Japanese GTR!

Wonder if they could cut some rudimentary tread into those and sell them on "Track Pack" GTRs in the US? But I doubt they'd pass DOT regulations even with tread...

this was a suped up prototype version of the track pack car they had testing at the ring in september of last year... it was running slicks with some special aero parts... the rumor was it would be capable of low 7's besting the LFA nurburgring edition...but nissan didnt release times unfortunately

Holy feathering, Batman!

Better check your alignment. I think the nut behind the wheel is a bit loose...

na i do alot of autocross... my camber is only like -1.7 but throwing a 3800+ lb car around tight turns and cones takes its toll and kills tires but its worth it

"Only" 1.7 degrees is pretty aggressive. :sly:

Autocrossing something that heavy... man, that's going to go through a lot of tires. Aren't the Dunlops the quicker wearing tire option?

Nice vid of Chris Harris in his GT3RS 4.0 on cups in the cold and rain... tricky, but not completely undrivable unless there's lots of standing water.

4.0mm of tread (on the few bits that actually have nay tread) when brand new

Close enough :sly:

yeah if you just street drive the car they last maybe only 6-7K miles before the insides cord.. you can get maybe 8K+ out of the rears as daily driver

the stock camber can go up to -2.0 for full track alignment or down to about -1.5 for street..so mine is in like a the middle

Are the stock units adjustable via bolts or plates? Just curious, I've never seen that part of the car.

I can grow stubble thicker than that overnight. :dopey:

im the in process of turning my dunlop into slicks :sly:

this is with 3600 miles on them lol

3600 miles and tons of understeer. Autocross? That's some intense sharktoothing.

Speaking of Dunlop, those tires aren't actually that good in the scheme of things (assuming it's not a GT-R specific compound like so many fancy cars use). You might consider Star Specs or NT05s as replacements. AD08s and RE11s aren't worth the money unless that's the other two don't come in your size.

yeah i did a 24 hour autoX this past summer and got a little carried away in the overnight hours... i ended up doing more runs that night than i would have in a whole season... but there is still life in them i actually ran my best drag time with them looking just like that!

the tires are Dunlop Sports Max GT 600 DSST CTT... yeah they were developed for the GTR

M5 is clearly outclassed in this one.. What were they thinking? Good numbers from both though, especially when you consider that M5 is heavier and RWD only..

Damn it. Was going to post that now :dopey:.

Well that was a proper beating wasnt it?

About the Nissan GTR vs. BMW M5, well obviously they're not of the same class but it's quite interesting seeing both cars battle it out with each other to see how close they are and I'm actually surprised with the result. I have never expected the M5 to be that close to the GTR!

They're both great, no doubt about that. The GTR is the Godzilla, the M5 is a great German Muscle. Just take it as a grain of salt ;)

Why are you called InvencibleM5 again?!

Just kidding. Nice test though and i was surprised it was that close to the GTR:)

Oh, I see what you did there! And why are you called Horde_R35 again?!

But yeah, I'm not being biased just because I'm an M5 aficionado but I think it's a common sense and I have nothing personal at all with the guy who suggested this comprison. It's good because you can see how well these 2 cars stack together and how close they are and that we've said that we're surprised to see both of them being pretty close together. Again, I'll just take as a grain of salt đź‘Ť

I'm betting Nissan is more than happy to send out test card for magazine comparisons. Its probably an explanation as to why magazines are testing it against completely unrelated cars. With the way auto publications constantly compare numbers to numbers and try to find a "best", it's easy to make the GT-R shine to the readers who haven't driven it.

The GT-R is just a monster in the numbers game, and to it's credit, that's what it has always been about. Was at cars and coffee today in Dallas, and there was one parked near a Ferrari F40. The GT-R may as well have been a bucket of white paint. That's not quite fair is it?

The GT-R is perfectly fine sitting there not getting any attention. It performs better in every single category than the F40.

It is fair to say that as it is your opinion. I don't think either look as amazing as people say they do but I'd be more excited about the GTR. The F40 that I have sat in was a great experience but when it comes down to it I'm alway's more excited to see the Nissan. If it were a 288 GTO that would be a completely different story. In your situation I'd be overjoyed to see both together and be on my way.
