2012 Nissan GTR [0-60: under 3 seconds]

R1600Turbo
Might as well buy a Corvette. :P

That's a different kind of thumbs up.

I'm thinking more of the "that car is a legend" rather than the "I remember my midlife crisis too!"

It's a cute assumption about Italian cars, but history has never shown the F40 being a victim of exhaust fires that became infamous with the F430 & Gallardo.

How many f430s and gallardos were made compared to the F40 though? Increased numbers make reliability tough to maintain.

Not saying every F40 will explode, but don't be shocked if it happens though.

And yet, in the 17 years leading up to the F430's introduction, how many F40s had exhaust fires? Pretty much none.

If there hasn't been one in over 20 years now by this point, I highly doubt it will happen at all, & even if it does, it would be impossible to blame it on the stereotype of Italian manufacturing.

I agree, this reliability talk is patently ridiculous.

How many Nissan GTRs failed when people used their launch control systems?

A couple of dozen. But you have to deactivate VDC first. Of course, if we go back to the issue, and note how many launches were performed versus how many launches you can do with a Ferrari F430 or F360 before voiding your warranty (In Europe, two or three... in the US... none... they removed LC for the US), then the point is moot. Doubly moot now that the GT-R can hit sub-3 second 0-60 times without deactivating VDC and voiding your warranty.

Drag-racing breaks stuff. While it's true Nissan could have used thicker transmission oil to cushion it against the shock of drag racing, doing twenty, thirty... fifty... a hundred... drag-launches on an extremely powerful dual-clutch automatic all-wheel drive vehicle, with the associated wheel hop and drivetrain stresses isn't the greatest way to keep your transmission intact.

Hmm... a GTR:

Fully-kitted interior
Seats four
Better traction
Easier to drive (automatic tranny, more grip, less edgy, more linear power delivery... not AWD R0XX0RZ)
Probably faster around a racetrack

F40:

Bare-bones interior
Rattly
More lag than a Civic with a hair-dryer turbo
Scary as hell

I think the F40 would do quite nicely.

They claimed the ECU would be unhackable. It's supposed to be encrypted.

That lasted all of a year.

Greetings from Texas event from SPE.

Looks like there's going to be some crazy GTRs out there this year... Not that the previous years didn't have them... :) So I guess SPE and AMS will be duking it out huh?

You could say that..

:nervous: That was with mere 35psi. They had a lot more to give, but traction issues were severe as you can see..

And the best part is.. That run was done with full interior and street legal drag tyres.

Full interior? Nutso. And here I thought flat-10s with a full interior on the GT-R were impressive.

The end of the world can't come soon enough. Pretty soon you're going to have street GT-Rs hitting 7's with a subwoofer in the back and neons under the skirts.

Indeed. If they could hook up properly with all that power, they'd definitely be in the 7 second realm, which used to belong to fully stripped R32's etc..

Probably doable but dependent on the weather and track surface. That track didn't look as pretty as it could have been, to say the least. Get that thing out to a pro track on a cloudy day and it'll be a monster.

Also highway rolls with a Veyron SS because 1600 wheel.

Just got it this weekend. It's sitting out back right now, I think they will be putting a blog entry up in the next few days.

It's a company that does... shhhhh.... work.

Going to go for 1200 hp on the stock bottom end? :D
