2012 Nissan GTR [0-60: under 3 seconds]

Have you seen in it real life and stood next to it? Before I ever saw it in real life I also didnt find it that good of a looker from what I saw in pictures.... But the moment I stood next to one real life with those massive 20 inch wheels... My jaw dropped to ground and I can say I really, really like it. It's huge, obnoxious and mean looking... and it has the performance to back it up to :D

I do agree with you though that the older Skyline GTRs are more "pretty" :sly: I wonder if they'll go back to an R34 look when they do the new GTR...

Yeah, there are 2 of them in Hilversum, black, and silver, it has something "awesome" over it, but not quite.

Nissan GT-R Track Pack review

A small excerpt from the article....

So, meet the Nissan GT-R Track Pack. A more focused version that retains exactly the same bi-turbo V6 powertrain and four-wheel drive system but which gets stiffer springs and increased rigidity, lighter Nismo alloys and improved brake cooling. It also loses the rear seats (this, together with the wheels, saves around 20kg) and gets new sports seats that utilise a special ‘grippy’ material to help keep your body in place against the fierce g-forces the GT-R creates in an offhand manner.

^ Shouldnt be long 'til he crashes this one too... Although he has 4WD now :)

Yeah, the rims have a PepBoys special Motegi look to them. As for beauty, not in the traditional sense, but it does look good.

Next-Generation Nissan GT-R Might Not Happen

Insideline.com
At first, rumors began to circulate that the next GT-R (R36) was delayed to the 2018 model year and it would receive another face-lift in 2013 to try to keep the car fresh for longer. Then we dug a little deeper and found out that development of the R36 hasn't even started yet.

Inside Line called Nissan for an official comment on the topic and received this brief e-mail reply from a company spokesman. "I cannot comment on that speculation and cannot comment on future product plans for the GT-R."

Although Ghosn was a champion for the GT-R project back in 2009, his new pet project, the all-electric Nissan Leaf is on the other side of the automotive spectrum. Ghosn approved the original GT-R only after being assured that it would make money for the company even at low volumes. Since its introduction, GT-R sales in the United States have added up to just 5,914 units and they have slowed recently to just 583 this year.

Hopefully time proves this wrong, but we'll see.

Its pure speculation at this point. The article is based on a source saying the next GT-R isnt approved yet... but they didnt mention is the R35 has 4-5 more years in it with another face lift due most likely next year.. I spoke with one of the lead engineers and the chief of global GTR marketing from japan a few months back and they both said the same thing that there is a lot of life in the current GTR and it will improve every year and thats what was currently being focused on. They said the R36 isnt even on their minds at this point.

by the 4-5 year model life extension it is confirmed to have the new R36 wouldnt be due until around 2018 anyway so its a stretch to say it may or may not happen at this point

From Edmunds: Inside Line
Despite previous information that suggested otherwise, Edmunds has confirmed that a next-generation Nissan GT-R is still planned for production, but the all-new version of the supercar won't arrive until 2018. Our latest information was obtained during a recent visit to Nissan's R&D center in Atsugi, Japan.

Edmunds has also learned that at the end of 2013, Nissan will be making some significant changes to the GT-R's exterior styling and power plant. Nissan execs feel that making big changes to the car is important because 2013 marks the sixth year since the GT-R's introduction

;)

And also ......
Sources close to the company say the GT-R team is watching the development of the soon-to-be-introduced Acura NSX closely, especially after Honda insiders revealed that their hybrid-powered sports car will lap the Nürburgring faster than the GT-R. Nissan's keen interest in the Acura NSX also indicates that a hybrid version of the GT-R is a distinct possibility.

What are your thoughts about have a GT-R be a hybrid? Do you think it's a good move or a bad one?

yeah i said that a month ago lol.... i read that and they were just back peddling on the story of it wasnt going to happen they were the initial publishers of that info and they jumped the gun a bit. Its been known for a while the R35 had 5 more years and saying the R36 wasnt going to happen was a bit premature. The face lifted car should be out by next years tokyo motor show in october. I heard nissan japan was wind tunnel testing the new aero parts a few weeks ago.

Im all for a hybrid R36. the GTR has always been cutting edge and thats the way of the future just like dual clutch was. I would like to see something like a 400hp engine running the rear wheels and a 200hp electric motor running the fronts. Nissan sort of had a crude version of this in the infiniti essence so the groundwork could exist.

Another way of doing it would be have conventional power set up but in addition using one of those flywheels that store energy like what porsche has and what was in that Audi Le Mans car

So I think the GTR needs to adopt this tech in some capacity to stay in the position that its in as raising the bar

one down side is gonna be cost. the GTR was introduced in 2008 for around 70K now its 100+ i expect an increase for the facelift for the 2015 model.

but hybrid tech is really gonna shoot this thing to a whole new level price wise

i mean look at the NSX no way it will be below a 150K car could be a lot more than that..and that is even with it being produced in ohio to save vs japan. And last i heard it was aiming at being a carerra S level performing car with 400hp not a world beater

A two-tier approach might be necessary. The Regular GT-R and a GT-R... R. (Hey, it's possible).

The regular would be around the 500 hp level, but lighter. Maybe call it the GT-SR, with thrust vectoring and advanced vehicle dynamic control but only two-wheel drive. The upper echelon model would be the full GT-R with hybrid all-wheel drive. Maybe about 100 hp electric at the front axle and 500 on the rear. Skimp on batteries, put a minimal pack (say 10 mile range) and make it capable of running those electrics in front off the main engine when necessary.
