2012 Nissan GTR [0-60: under 3 seconds]

^How about resurrecting the S-Tune, R-Tune, and Z-Tune monikers for the Nismo Skylines and place them on the hardcore models of GT-Rs?

A two-tier approach might be necessary. The Regular GT-R and a GT-R... R. (Hey, it's possible).

The regular would be around the 500 hp level, but lighter. Maybe call it the GT-SR, with thrust vectoring and advanced vehicle dynamic control but only two-wheel drive. The upper echelon model would be the full GT-R with hybrid all-wheel drive. Maybe about 100 hp electric at the front axle and 500 on the rear. Skimp on batteries, put a minimal pack (say 10 mile range) and make it capable of running those electrics in front off the main engine when necessary.

Err, no AWD no GT-R. GTS would be more like it. But AWD really makes the car what it is.

From the R32 onwards, yes, but once upon a time, the GT-R was rear wheel drive and naturally aspirated.

The GT-R's ethos is using technology to push the envelope. It would be interesting to see how well they can make a rear-wheel drive car perform on track by giving it the same level of electronic aids that you can get with an AWD car. Active, differential-based rear wheel steering, electronically controlled anti-roll bars. Maybe even active aerodynamics. The possibilities are endless.

Think of it as a halfway point between the 370Z and the AWD GT-R. Sort of like Nissan's answer to the 911 GT3.

Not that they have any plans to that effect, but I think it's a segment well worth pursuing.

The GT-Rs that compete in GT1, GT3 and Super GT class racing are all rear wheel drive anyway. An entry level road going GT-R that's lighter, more track focused and driven from the rear wheels only totally makes sense to me too.

An old clip.

Switzer has also posted a new record for a gas-powered GT-R, 9.42 seconds at 153.30 mph (246.71 km/h)

Nice vids.

"The GTR is like a G-generating machine, it's like a roller coaster ride, you know, where your hair is constantly standing up."

Boo... Rounding error. :D

Amazing what the '13 can do. And to think we were oohing and aahing over the 11.2s the first generation R35s were capable of.

that makes no sense at all and its not misleading thats how drag racing goes. A 10.79999999999999999999999 to infiniti is a 10.7 run you dont round up in 1/4 times. it is what it is although some even correct for DA which would futher improve a time. If you run a 10.70000000 or a 10.7999999999 its still running a 10.7 and breaking the 10.8 mark.

A lot of benchmark times are reached that way.. if someone runs a 10.99 or a 9.99 they are acknowledged as 10 or 9 sec runs

Im not going to be arguing with people on a video game forum. I was just sharing an accomplishment of the 2013 GTR

Actually 10.79999999999999... = 10.8.

10.7999... = 10+4/5 = 54/5 = 10.8. So if it was 10.7999... it would actually be exactly 10.80 because 10.7999... in exact form is 54/5 which equals 10.8.

Not taking anything away from him. That was an incredible run. I was merely hoping for it to be closer to 10.7 than 10.8.

Either way, incredible numbers to be getting out of a bone stock factory car.

yeah i mean i didnt run it so im not defending it its just no one myself included thought a 10.7 was capable stock out of these cars. not sure if it can be replicated but we will see. it had to be perfect track prep to make that happen. im running 10.95's with bad prep so i know mine has another tenth in it

Nissan Japan has announced its changes to the 2014 (2013 JDM). The 2014 GTR is said to be the start of the 3rd generation GTR and while the exterior has not changed (the facelift looks to take place for next year's 2015 model) the GTR has evolved in 3 major ways. Firstly, in the suspension department the cars "roll center" has been lowered to give the 2014 GTR a more planted feel with less unnecessary movement while high speed driving. More body reinforcements have been added for 2014 aswell as new cam bolts to provide a better alignment to the front end. Next , while the peak power of 550PS and peak torque remains the same, internal changes such as new injectors have been made to allow mid range response and more torque between 4K-6K RPMs. This along with less drop off of turbo pressure is a factor in improved acceleration resulting in a one tenth improvement in 0-62 time of 2.7 (which should translate to an astonishing 2.6 sec 0-60 sprint.) Interior was the next thing that was improved. the JDM premium model GTR gets an optional fashionable "Amber Red" Interior that includes two-tone accents aswell as high grade hand sewn stitching . Other improvements include a craftsmanship badge added to the front of the engine and the option of NISMO Competition engine oil 2193E to coincide with last years switch to NISMO differential oil.

Like the interior 👍 With 620+ hp/ 640 lbs torque I'm good in that department, I just wish I had the suspension upgrades.
