2012 Nissan GTR [0-60: under 3 seconds]

I thought I'd mention that in the latest Road & Track the Porsche Turbo S did 0-60mph in a time of 2.6 seconds

Edit: And a 1/4 mile time of 10.7 @ ~ 129mph :ill: Just a simple exhaust, intake and reflash (race gas tune) would probably get the thing into the 9's, or damn well near.

Ah. There's the rub. Yes, the GT-R is expensive to run. But it is a great toy if all you're doing is the odd track day and time attacks (timed laps, cool-down in-between)... but like Stotty says, running any modern car on a regular basis on track can get real expensive... (which is why many people trailer their exotics between track events) ...hell... the stuff you're required to replace between track days are things I would change between track days, regardless... and at least Nissan lets you keep the warranty if you do the maintenance... unlike some manufacturers, where you're basically shafted whichever way you go.

Besides... it's not the car's fault if there are those with an unrealistically high (or low) opinion of it.

I know running any car on the track can get expensive. The fact that the Nissan (which is marketed a great bang for your buck alternative) has running costs that gets even those who have enough money to run multiple uber expensive Porsches to sell their Nissans says a lot.

It's marketed as a giant killer, but when push comes to shove a Z06 and a GT3 are still the better propositions.

And btw, I know many who track exotics that don't trailer their cars. Heck, I've ran with Porsches, Vettes & BMWs at Sebring (one of the harshest tracks out there) and seen them drive home without missing a beat.

Again... both naturally aspirated, lightweight sportscars... not heavyweight, turbocharged grand tourers. Though I agree... both better track toys.

The GT-R was never marketed against the Z06 or GT3. The target has always been the 911 Turbo.

There is no reason to go this fast unless tou are showing off your car in a drivers clubo or to a jelous mate, you can barely crack the 100MPH on a suurban road.

Which is a good thing, because the speed limit is a lot lower...

I want one, well, I can't because I can't afford it and I'm 13. But I can dream..
We actually saw a GT-R blast past our car on the freeway before, doing about 140 to 150! :dopey:

Testing sessions reckoned the 911 Turbo as a 2,8 sec 0-60 rocket, that is quite hard to match, but the smart Nissan's AWD system has already proven to be quite a masterpiece. A tie might be possible though.

Taken into account that one is half the price of the other, One has back seats, a decently sized boot, and the engine in the CORRECT place. Ones insurance will be much lower than the other, I personally know which I would prefer. Even if the one with the engine in the wrong place was a poofteenth faster. Id prefer the nissan.

I'll give you price. But the 997TT has backseats, a surprisingly big boot (bigger than the one on my '84, which is sufficient). And I'm not convinced that insurance will be cheaper on the Nissan...I know the NSX & the Viper weren't any cheaper on insurance and I don't think the GT-R would be any different.

As far as engine placement, the RR platform can be an advantage if you know to use it.

Anyway, driving feel in the Pcar would be superior and would be tons more fun than the playstation on wheels.

An opinion, which is all right to have.

I'd rather drive the Playstation than the Porsche. You like Oranges, I like Apples.

It's moot really on which car is better than the other. Sure the Porsche has prestige to it, but a Nissan GT-R turns more heads than a Porsche here, In Florida at least. But I don't care about head turning.

Though the Porsche may be faster and whatnot, nobody can deny that the performance numbers thrown by a car, that in relative to the Porsches and Corvettes, weighs as much as a bus is amazing.

And in for all that Porsche has done, that Playstation seems to have upped the game a bit.

I wish I can have both :).

Edit: Nothing gets a Porsche owner more annoyed than calling whatever Porsche they drive a VW, and whatever Nissan they drive a Datsun. :dopey:

No arguments against that, I still prefer the GT-R when it comes to exterior looks, praticality and macho attitude, however the Porsche always was and still is my favourite sportscar of all time. As I can't buy none of them and then money isn't a considerable factor to my equation :P , I will stay with the Porsche.

And the NHRA will require you get a Rollcage...unless the car has an exemption.

That's an interesting thing...if production cars start breaking into the 9s from the showroom floor, will NHRA require rollcages on them?

Whats wrong with going 0-60 in 2.6 seconds? Most roads around me are 50mph so theres no issue getting up to 60 that fast and then letting off (unless cops are around, i suppose).

and that's from a Mustang dyno that reads low.

Inside Line article

And in Golden State's conservative 91 octane gasoline. I would kill to drive one.

Dayumn.

Now would finally be the time for the anti-GT-R crowd to come out of the woodwork claiming it's "under-rated."

No one? Oh, Nissan uprated claimed hp to 520.

I love "Inside Line", one of the few mainstream publications that really has it all together on the technical side of the business.

Underrated? You mean overrated?

"Oh, it's only faster than the Porsche 911 Turbo because it secretly makes 600 horsepower!"

"And we've got the dynos to prove it!"

Thank goodness there are some mainstream media types who understand how a dyno works... not like Motor-Trend's rumor-mongering media-monkeys...

OH, right.
