2013 release optimistic?

Most of us probably remember the numerous delays that GT5 had. Of course, they have to consider holiday sales and the expected PS4 launch.

Somehow I can easily see that we won't see the game before spring 2014. In fact, I expect a similar delay for the PS4. Unfortunately, my hype for this game is not very high but releasing the game on such short notice simply sounds too good to be true, especially when thinking back to the wait for GT5. Is it reasonable to expect that PD will keep their estimate of releasing GT6 within the next 6 months?

If they don't release it Holiday 2013, it'll be "soon" afterwards. :P

My thoughts are that PD could've announced GT6 long ago, but they have held the announcement so we won't go through what we did with GT5.

I see that although they are being cautious, they do feel sure about a 2013 holiday release.

I am optimistic that we will be seeing it this year, if not February 2014 the most.

February 2014
February 2014 misses out on a HUGE market missing Christmas by only 2 months. From a financial standpoint, they are certainly not doing themselves any favors missing the mid-December mark.

Agreed. I just don't expect much in the first release date being the actual date of release. Just judging by the history of the previous games. Just not getting my hopes up. I'm patient anyway

IMO, GT6 is being released on the PS3 because Sony wants profits, regardless of what's best for the series. Larger install base, four hastily-made games between the PS3 and PS4 rather than just three carefully-made ones (one on the PS3 and two on the PS4 — barring PD wets the bed again in the development process with the PS4), etc.

Being that GT6 is on the PS3 for that one reason, I can't see Sony letting PD delay the game past the holiday season, when game sales are highest.

There's no way Sony would let PD miss the holiday window, whether they have it done or not. That would defeat pretty much the entire purpose of making it a PS3 game.

I take it you didn't see the news item quoting Kazunori-san's wish not to announce anything about GT6 until he was certain. Well, he was there at Silverstone and said it, so I think they'll be holding themselves to that timeframe.

Agreed. :) I trust Kaz to release GT6 this holiday season, and he seemed very sure of it as well. 👍

They announced the game so late and will release it this year, with in 6 months lol. They learned from their mistake. I hope they stopped working on it now and just polish it. Although the DLC thing is a rip-off and everyone does these days :(

Sony/PD/KAZ have NEVER been great with deadlines. Let's hope this time is different.

Fixed that for you...

And yes, let's hope this time is different... but like some of you have pointed out, a November release is the most realistic bet (I'm about 90% sure it's going to happen)... PS3 is reaching the end of its lifetime, and there's no way they (Sony) are going to miss it's last Christmas on the market to sell a few million more of them...

Ugh. I'm not liking how GT6 is being treated more like a cash bonus than a game...I'll keep my head up, but not as high as before.

As others have noted and as I have also noted in a previous thread, I would bet GT6 gets released in mid-November, right before Thanksgiving, to capture not just the holiday season, but also Black Friday in the US.

Any later than 2013 won't do. They need to get it out while the PS3 still has some life in it.

They've been careful to avoid the same situation we saw with GT5 by announcing the game so close to completion. I doubt we'll see any major delays this time.

It would be sad if PD haven't learned from their mistakes - I fully suspect that the game has been in development for quite some time, at the very least, the physics, graphics engine and other core elements should be 90% complete. At this point, it should be a matter of testing/tweaking gameplay, the AI, A-Spec content, the UI, and multiplayer. In other words, they should only have made the announcement once they were 99.99% certain they could deliver on the promised date.

So you apparently base that statement on things nobody here knows, unless you're some kind of PD insider of course (which I highly doubt).

Well based on past GT experience there is no chance (of a Nov 2013 release), unless of course they've learnt from their past experiences/mistakes.

Here's hoping they have! Looking forward to it regardless.

Now I know its GT6 on PS3 this is likely to delay me buyng a PS4 on launch date. No point really as I play GT more than any other game....and of course GTA5 is coming to PS3 too.

Every single GT game has had a delay tied to it. Of course we remember GT5's most vividly, and even ignoring the last-minute delay in November, we had these:

https://www.gtplanet.net/gran-turismo-5-to-release-shortly-after-gt-psp/
https://www.gtplanet.net/gran-turismo-5s-q4-2009-release-date-confirmed/
https://www.gtplanet.net/gran-turismo-5-march-2010-in-japan/

Of course, GT6 is now likely launching at roughly the same time as a brand new system. PD doesn't have the luxury of an open launch window this go-round, and the longer they hold off on the release of the game in relation to the PS4's launch, the longer I believe it will impact sales. Not that I think the game would've been better suited to the new system - PS4 doesn't need a GT game until at least a year in - but it will be hard to get people interested in a game from a company infamous for delays in the face of the shiny newness.

I'd like to give Kaz and Co the benefit of the doubt, and assume they've learned their lesson about long lead times, and that they'll release this right on schedule. Here's hoping 👍

Remember how cautious Kaz was about announcing the release date too early. He must be fairly certain about the release date seeing as he went ahead and announced it now.

Keeping that in mind, I'd say a 2013 release is very likely unless something unexpected happens. As everyone else has said, a later release would hurt sales considerably.

:sly: Considering GT6 is in fact GT5 Spec III, it shouldn't be delayed at all...

 Do people seriously believe this? If so, explain the difference that doesn't make GT4 a GT3.5, or GT2 a GT1.5?
