2014 Dodge Journey SRT6 and 2013 Dodge Hornet

The margin, yes. The customers, no. Nobody will cross shop a Dart or Journey with a Challenger of any kind. The people that would be buying a Challenger SXT or RT are customers who simply won't be walking into the dealerships. On top of that, the more affordable and higher volume non-SRT models are the bread and butter moneymakers anyway and make up 75-80% of all Challenger sales. The magazines definitely have this one wrong.
I didn't say they did. I said the Challenger can be killed off & the 2 models can make back the money "lost" & then some from the poor sales in due time if their current sales are anything to go by.

As for the SXT & R/T claim, I think you're wrong. Else, you'd be saying that all the people who buy any Challenger won't be people coming off the street. I don't believe for a second a base Challenger is a car sought out by people beforehand outside of teenage girls.

The magazines are more correct than you are. Find it very hard to believe multiple people with experience in this area (& all working for different publications) regarding sales are all wrong compared to a guy on the web.

Just for you RocZX

"Chrysler is said to be working on a third model to add to its new SRT brand, which launches late this year with the 2013 Viper. A new-age SRT Barracuda will be the nascent brand's second model.

He actually signed up just to say that post. What a man.

I already said sales overall will drop, but that the new Dart can recover the lost margin.

Not according to the sources posted on the last page, it isn't.

In June, the Dodge sold 4,009 Challengers while this last month, it sold 3,631 units. The Journey sales went from 6,896 units in June to 7,051 units in July. To date, the Challenger has only sold 14% more over last year while the Journey is at 40% & 70% over last July's figures. Dart sales started in June at 202 & have increased to 772, which is nice steady rate & has resulted in a 3rd assembly crew to keep up demand.

With the sales of those cars still remaining strong, they can offset the Challenger sales. Not by the end of this year, but potentially by the end of next year if the Dart remains on the current sales track. The Barracuda, again if successful, can double SRT8 figures.
I knowbut I don't even think the Dart can recover the losses.

The car jumped 507 units in just its 2nd month on the market & has a 3rd assembly team added on; in 2 months. It's on a good track to do so in possibly a year.

We'll have to wait and see.

Wait. Do people think that they are going to kill off the base model Dart and Journey as well? They won't do that. The 'Cuda is going to replace the Challenger as an (almost certainly more profitable) SRT. The Dart SRT and Journey SRT is not going to replace the normal versions of those two.

Unless I misread something?

I'm not exactly sure how that would work. This whole "Yeah, SRT is a totally separate brand! doesn't really make a ton of sense. It really boils down to an issue with naming. Do they keep it simple and just call it the SRT Dart, or is it a Dodge Dart SRT-4? Or do they call it a SRT Dart by Dodge? Or What?

Either way, I'd like to know what engine they're using in there...

Well, the Dodge Charger won the APEAL Award for Large Car while the Chrysler 300 came in second and the Dodge Challenger took the Mid-sized Sport category. So, that's 3 cars with very satisfied customers.

Its Just SRT Dart, SRT Charger, SRT Grand Cherokee. Most Likely the SRT-"Insert Cylinder count" is unnecessary being that you expect a Dart to have 4 Cylinders and a Charger to have 8.

I guess it's something that the Chrysler group is doing to try and make people think they're a changed company. Viper is no longer Dodge, it's an SRT model. Ram is no longer a Dodge, it's just a seperate brand altogether. Cuda could work that way as well. It makes sense with their odd restructuring of brands, but taking out the rest of the volume that platform provides isn't going to happen.

Except that has absolute nothing to do with the sales. The APEAL study is more of a popularity contest at best.

With the original Crossfire SRT6, the V6 was a from the SLK AMG. This time, they don't have a Mercedes V6, but they do have access to Alfa Romeo's JTS V6. That will probably be the power source for the new SRT6. Who knows, they might even is the Spider chasise for it. But, if they use the Alfa engine, the Journey SRT6 could be a descent car.

The JTS went out of production two years ago, and was based on the exact same engine that GM uses in basically all of their cars. No way that would make its way into any Chryslers even if they didn't have their own, brand new and perfectly competitive Pentastar V6 to build performance versions off of.

Which they do.

The "Spider chasise" was also, to my knowledge, something co-developed with GM. So that won't be happening either. Not least because the Brera and Spider no longer exist, and the next Alfa Spider is being co-developed with Mazda.

Sorry, I'm not up to date on Alfa Romeo engines....No...wait. I'm not that sorry. Yeah, I don't follow auto news as closely as some people, obviously. Shoot me.

Then why speculate? If you're going to say "they'll use this engine, and this chasise [sic]" then it makes sense to at least look into it a little first. It's certainly preferable to acting indignant when people correct you.

Plus, GM telling FIAT to take a hike with a $2 billion payoff and the purchase of Chrysler (largely using that same money from GM) was hardly low-key or recent news.

Plus the idea of turning a mediocre crossover into a serious performance machine is a proven bad one. It would help to start with actually selling a decent one that people want.

The new KL (Jeep Liberty replacement) will be plenty fast enough if my inside sources are correct and if the test mules are anything to go by. I'm sure you'll see an SRT version of it too once they figure out the SRT Dart.

there wont be no SRT crossover. BUT a sporty CUV from Alfa?, maybe. Also no one knows what a SRT6 Journey would perform like. Current Journeys dont have a Advance AWD System like the future Chrysler products supposed to get, 2 Mode Suspension that SRT vehicles have or even a High performance Transmission. 340 Hp SRT6 Journey might do some damage to Explorer Sport.

That assumes an awful lot from Chrysler in the first place. Even if they had a spectacular 2012, assuming that they have the money to deliver a product like that which would already be selling in such small numbers is a bit crazy. After all, we've seen nothing of an SRT-4 successor, which arguably should/would sell well if it were created. They've got enough on their plate worrying about modernizing the majority of their lineup. Between slimming down their van line, adding the Fiat van, expanding the Fiat brand in general, refreshing the Sebring/Avenger (hopefully killing the Avenger), and replacing the PT Cruiser... There is way too much going on at the moment.

Hell, I even forgot about Jeep.

No, this Journey thing isn't happening. Not any time soon.

The SRT4 is in the works, Testing Phase as we speak. Its just that Everything at Chrysler is like Area 51 and the CIA. Alot of Cover-up's (as in Next Gen Jeeps/Alfas/Chryslers Disguised as Giulietta/QP Mules)

Errr it's not really in any kinds of work. I'd like to know your sources because mine comes from people who actually work on the projects
It'll be a little bit before you see an SRT4.

Allpar.com and WisSRT. are good sites for Information on Chrysler. as for my info on the DSRT4, a Member on WisSRT (craigd) whos on the team and actually tests the cars told everyone on the forum.. Also Allpar is the only place where they Confirmed all SRT LX Cars will have the 6.2 SC Option...

http://www.allpar.com/forums/topic/147627-62sc-coming-to-all-srt-cars-my14/

around Novemeber they mentioned that there will be 2 SRT Darts, One FWD (Focus ST) and One AWD (Focus RS). and now all of a sudden. the "RT" Dart becomes the GT while the "R/T" is being "investigated", which sounds like re-imagined Possibly as a base SRT Model.

That's an impressive thing to act superior over when even Chrysler didn't seem to know what they wanted to do with the Challenger until last year or so.

Considering how little has changed, Id say they still dont know exactly what they want to do with it. Incrimental changes trudge along.

I don't understand who would buy a Journey SRT. People who want something to haul their families in won't buy it, they'll buy a regular, less expensive Journey or a Grand Caravan. Anybody who wants to have size and performance will buy a Grand Cherokee SRT8 or a Supercharged Range Rover, not a Dodge Journey. This will be a more epic flop than the Pontiac Aztek.
