Press Release

For immediate release: 5th December 2013

Spearmint Rhino Charges Into Car Racing

Grassroot Media is delighted to announce Spearmint Rhino as senior partner for the BTCC race winning Team ES Racing. The partnership is initially for the 2014 season with an option for 2015. The deal involves Spearmint Rhino branding on all elements of the team’s operation and there are some never been done before plans to activate the sponsorship both on and off the track. The team will now be called ES Rhino Racing as part of the agreement. The team are currently looking at race series options for next year and will make announcement on where they will be racing soon.

Matthew Court, Managing Director of Grassroot Media, who sourced the partnership said “Team ES are an edgy team with a history of being at the right end of the BTCC grid. To find such a great sponsor with a great fit for the team and audience in our first deal in motorsport is brilliant for us the team and Spearmint Rhino. I couldn’t be happier with the outcome and some of the ideas the race team and sponsor have come up with above and beyond what we at Grassroot Media proposed initially. While it’s fantastic to secure the headline sponsorship, we still have opportunities on the cars and around the team for other brands to get involved and be a part of ES Rhino Racing, arguably what will be the most commercially innovative team on whichever grid it is on when it comes to such partnerships.”

Chris James, Principle of ES Rhino Racing said “We simply cannot wait for the season to start. Preparations for the 2014 campaign have been well underway for a while, as have discussions with Spearmint Rhino and I’m thrilled that we’re finally able to announce what I think is a brilliant partnership to our fans. As we move in to the New Year we’ll have more news for everyone so we’ll talk to you again before long. This is a truly exciting time for my team. To have attracted a worldwide renowned brand such as Spearmint Rhino is testament to the success my team has enjoyed & respect we conduct. Spearmint Rhino & their partners are some of the most highly respected brands around, and I am excited to be working with them. This deal gives us the firm foundations to develop our team & move forward. It gives us huge options.”

Asked where ES Rhino Racing will be competing next year Chris replied "Having being successful in the BTCC we have options in 2014. We will have more news on where we will be racing soon, but until everything is signed we obviously cannot announce them.”

Jeremy Nargi, Marketing Director of Spearmint Rhino UK said “We’ve been looking to get in to high profile four wheeled racing for a while to go alongside our sponsorship of the Motodex BMW BSB team, but we had to wait for the right team. We think we’ve found them in Chris and the rest of the guys. I’m excited about the future of ES Rhino Racing and how we can both help each other to achieve our goals for the years to come. As well as being a race winning, successful & professional team in the past, the main attractions were Chris’s enthusiasm for 2014, the plans the team have for us and the fact they are a family run team. We are looking forward to working with the other partners and sponsors the team are looking to get on board.”

ES Racing confirms its participation in the BTCC in 2014.

Now the question is whether we believe him (Chris James) or not...

E- The quote doesn't actually say which series they'll be racing in.

Chris James' team is sponsored by a strip club. Classy.

If you excuse me, I'm off to enter a team for Front Magazine.

Trio Of Ford's For Motorbase

Motorbase Performance have announced three Ford Focuses for their assault in the 2014 championship. AmD recently announced that they have acquired a Focus from Motorbase, causing speculation that they will be running just two cars next year. However this is not the case, and team boss David Bartrum has announced that a third car is already in the early stages of manufacture, and that they have been awarded three TBL's (TOCA BTCC Licences). The Kent based squad had a rough start to 2013, but they seemed to have got to grips with their machinery for the second half of the season. The team are currently in talks with several drivers as to who will be piloting their three machines.

The hatchback Cruze to race on in 2014 :D

Wix rumored to be leaving rar, shame as they seemed to work well together.

They are officially. Hope Rob can get some funding. Also Motorbase seem to be treating AMD as essentially a satellite team.

EDIT Wix off to Cicely it is being reported.

BTCC will use the full Oulton International circuit.

I'm surprised it has taken this long to switch to it.

Could never understand why they didn't before. Overtaking into the hairpin on the Island circuit has always been a messy affair in the BTCC (is the Island circuit even used outside of BTCC weekend?) The Brittens chicane and Shell hairpin will still offer plenty of overtaking ops.

I don't agree there will be more overtaking, I think there will be less. Shell Oils corner isn't really very tight compared to the Island hairpin. Its certainly a lot faster.
Also, that section of track is terrible for spectators, thats probably why they've used the Island circuit all these years.

I didn't mind the Island circuit, I quite liked the action around the hairpin and the braking zone for that corner is bumpy and interesting.

Meh, I don't mind either way. I'm more gutted that Rob Austin is stuck in a rut yet again!

The International track is fine for spectators, they have gates all the way round the back. The only problem is when you work in the pits its a fair only trek.

Last time I was up that end of the track, I seem to remember it wasn't possible to get up to the very end. Admittedly I've only been up spectating that far twice.

Rumour has it that the Mini's are supporting at knockhill this year although one of the supports isnt going with oulton and they are saying that it might be the super tourer trophy.

Happy new year BTCC fans, here's to 2014 being a vintage year

Now I have been trawling through the archives watching BTC era BTCC around 2003-2005, when I first started watching BTCC. Does anyone know what the music is for the grid line up graphics at the start of the video?

My first experience of BTCC. I only got free view in 2009 (so I could only start watching it on ITV4) but I've watched every year at Donington since 2004 and Silverstone in 2006, 2009, 2010 and 2012 and Rockingham 2012. Safe to say I've seen my fair share of BTCC racing ;)
