Does anybody else think the racing has toned down a bit in the past 5 years or so? I remember as a 5 year old watching the likes of Muller, Thompson and Neal literally smashing each other off. On another note, anybody know what Giovanardi is doing nowadays?

I wouldn't say toned down. I'd say that rules are more enforced than before. There's still a lot of pushing and shoving. It would be interesting to know what he's doing now. @Furinkazen probably knows

But don't you want to see carnage again? Just one race this year, not an overly important one...
Gio was doing SStars on and off last year, but someone needs to give him a drive in BTCC again. He deserves it.

I assumed thats what he was doing. I like to see bumping and rubbing but just ramming people off ain't racing. You can nip down to your local banger track to get that. But I like to see it how it is now ;)

I just hope for some intense racing this year (it's BTCC, so it's practically 100% guaranteed). Should be an interesting one, with WSR coming back strong, Honda's new Civic and new teams on the grid.

I want this kind of thing back:

Then I suggest you watch banger racing. That video is yet another example of criminal assault masquerading as sport and does not belong on a race track. 👎

It's not, that is touring cars. They have bumpers, and they use them to good effect, but they seem to have toned down since the arrival of NGTC. Does anyone think that S2000 cars were more resilient than the NGTC cars? A lot of cars seem to get taken out of races from bits of contact that were par for the course just a few years back. Also, @Tired Tyres, they were some of the best drivers this series has ever seen. They never, ever got a slap on the wrist for it, and they made every race come alive.

Super Touring had best racing.

This was stupid.

But Super Touring was amazing, I have to agree with you. I never lived to see it in action, but it promoted BTCC onto a world stage. I really hope NGTC can do the same thing.

Fixed. NGTC is proving a runaway success. What I don't like is punting for punting sake.

Total & complete rubbish. That crap does not belong on a race track. 👎

As @raceorama123432 said, that still happens today, and it's brilliant. It's just aggressive racing, from racers who just want to win. BTCC has always had that element, and it makes it the best racing ever.

And @Furinkazen, that race at Mondello was a tiny bit stupid, but they all get a bit like that sometimes. I think it only boiled down to that because of the rivalries that were going on, but you can't help laughing at that stuff.

Sometimes they got a bit of a telling off, but it was quite rare for reprimands. And I have to disagree about those not being some of the best drivers to grace the BTCC, because Muller, Giovanardi, Turkington, Neal and Plato (the last one whinges a bit but he can still drive quite well) defined the S2000 era. Can you honestly say that S2000 was not a good era for racing? Grids dropped near the end of the decade, but the 2009 finale at Brands was the single best motor race I have ever watched.

Reprimands weren't rare they were handed out after basicly every race you just don't hear about them.

There have been several drivers that have actually nearly lost their race license part way through the season.

And nope I didn't say s2000 wasn't one of the best ill just be amazed to see how long NGTC last as I feel that will go along the lines of BTC.

And no I can safely say those drivers aren't some of the best to race in the series.

They defined the era, and my childhood, so i'll have to disagree. But interesting you brought up that about NGTC, i'd never thought of it going like BTC. One of the reasons S2000 worked was the regulations were embraced in other series, but that isn't happening with NGTC. I thought WTCC would have adopted it for this year, but they made their own weird set of rules. It's going strong ATM though.

I've never been a fan of some of the things that went on (and still go on) in the BTCC. In my opinion bumping someone on the brakes so they run wide is both unsporting and potentially dangerous.

When they're all playing fair it provides some of the closest racing today. 👍

Lower level club racing is way closer than BTCC. But close doesn't necessarily mean good.

Some of the battles you get in sportscars are fantastic and I wouldn't call sportscar racing close.
Lower level club sport is good even if some seasons you are spendng 100k:lol:
