The Top of the line Mazda 3 Astina here is getting rediculiously expensive.

Costs the same as Golf 7 GTI and it's not a performance model, it will likely be mind blowing on how much a MPS/Mazdaspeed version will cost.

Mazda needs to get a hold of their pricing situation, I guess in Australia they are probably taking advantage of the fact we buy Mazdas more then anyone by Capita but still.

My friend recently purchased a manual i Grand Touring Sedan used with 3k miles as a commuter. Before I drove it I thought to myself the 2.0L with 150hp would be terribly underpowered. Maybe it's the manual but it's got plenty of power for a car of it's size and serves it's purpose. It averages around 33mpg right now, has about a 400 mile range. I'd imagine an S with the 2.5 would be pretty fun. It's fun to drive, a pleasant place to be in, the manual is smooth, the clutch is crazy light but I don't think that's a bad thing for what it is. He got it for 19K so I say it was a good buy. I've been wanting to drive one of these since they came out, I'm glad I did.

Regarding the MS3. I've heard from speculation we could be seeing it next year as a MY2017. Based on the specs from said speculation I think I might want to snatch this up as my second car. Hopefully the price isn't outrageous. If they could sell it at 29k that'd be reasonable in my eyes. I can't wait for official pictures/specs. The CX-3 is already being released in parts of the world, I suppose the CX-9 is next up.

Make it turbo, give it AWD, Focus RS Competitor.

I can confirm that the 2.5 is plenty of fun :D. I've had a manual 2015 S Grand Touring Hatch since the beginning of December and absolutely love it so far. Already have about 10k miles on it and due for the second service shortly.

I would also expect the MS3 to be around that 30k price point but who knows when you consider how pricey the regular models can get now.

It will be very interesting to see how they go about increasing performance, since my understanding is that you can't simply slap a turbo on to a high compression engine like the SKYACTIV.

It doesn't coincide with Mazda's current philosophy unless it's a powerful and ultra efficient V6.

There's no way any of the existing Skyactiv units would be powerful enough for a CX-9 or a Mazdaspeed though. They have to come up with a new engine and I'm willing to bet they'll find a way to Turbo the current 2.0L or just make a brand new Turbo 4 pot without Skyactiv technology.

I'm curious to see what they actually do. Rumors are rumors but they say the CX-9 will share the MS3s engine. Either way Mazda is on a roll hopefully they dont screw it up.

Well thats why I said a Skyactiv V6, as of now its not in production yet, they have shown not to go with Small Turbos on all their other models and acheive good fuel efficient numbers, can't say they couldn't do the same with say a 3L V6 with the same technoledgy.

Hi all, my dad recently got a new mazda 5 with the 2 litre skyactiv engine. It is a similar skyactiv engine and transmission with the mazda 3. I will be driving the car as well and I'm wondering if shifting the automatic transmission manually will damage the transmission?

No, otherwise they wouldn't give you the option.

But judging how your asking this I would be more worried about the engine.

At least not now... the engine needs breaking in now
I was concerned as I read that the transmission has a mechatronic module in it. It predicts the possible shift point based on various factors. Shifting manually however, might be hard to predict. Anyhow, after reading many good reviews of this engine, I'm glad that I get to try it for myself!

Shifting the transmission manually won't do any damage at all. The gearbox won't let you shift into any gears that would cause damage, and it's designed to be shifted manually if the driver so desires. Since you're basically just pressing a button and telling it to shift, the shifts will always be pretty consistent and will never do any damage, so you can shift as much as you like. Have fun!

I''ve switched from the 2(DJ) Neo to a Maxx 3(BM) auto. Not a fan of I-stop. Gets switched off each time I start up. The SP25GT i drove for a bit, is way more plush but, the Maxx still feels upscale even without the Satnav. Feels like a big car, not even comparing to a 2 or CX-3(DK). The nose feels like I'm going to scrape on my driveway but, didn't. The 2, on the the other hand... The CX-3 so far, is still the pick if the litter. Can't wait for that MX-5 and MPS.

I think the iStop works well with Manual though, as the delay in starting up is offsetted by the time it takes to shift from neutral to 1st gear, so its a seemless start.

On Auto though it's frustrating as it adds a good couple of seconds to your expected movement time off the line.

Not a huge surprise that the SV is being dropped. I don't think I've seen many of those strippers out and about, and I can't imagine the takeup would be that great aside from folks looking to cut corners on price. But that preferred equipment package? F'ing finally, man. Although I'm willing to bet the price will probably come in somewhere around $1800+, its the majority of stuff that should be standard on a class-competitive car these days.
