Wow, that's way better than I expected. I don't recall ever seeing such a handsome duo of hatch/sedan before. Normally one is good but the other looks wrong. Both of these look pretty stellar.

Wow I'm really impressed with the direction Mazda is going with their designs. The 6 looks amazing and now this. 👍

It looks like a Lexus IS Jr., but done right. Fantastic. Might be my next car.

All three of Mazda's new cars are good lookers an great cars as well. The CX5 and 6 have won comparisons multiple times and this 3 is about to run the table of the other lame offerings. The Focus might compete.

Now all they need is a sexy new 5 and The basic lineup will be complete. The 5 has been a cash cow for Mazda despite not having a dedicated advertising campaign. It's an example of a damn good product selling itself.

Oh, and the Miata. Should be easy to match the BRZ's price and everything else too.

The CX-9 is seemingly doing well as well, although it's current face-lifted styling is a bit of a strange hybrid between Kodo and Nagare.

The ducks are all in a row (aka Mazda is looking profitable, on their own, while building cars in Japan still, which is pretty remarkable) for an RX-7 comeback...

Mazda profitable? Ha! Have the numbers come in yet? Because they needed these Kodo cars to be a success-- otherwise it's curtains for Mazda.

I was under the impression Mazda was financially very healthy, but that was probably couple of years ago. I didn't realize they were struggling, though R&D is a lot of money to small automakers such as Mazda, and they are not tied to Ford anymore.

Before Skyactiv came out they were losing billions. They were profitable, finally, this last year, but America still lost them a couple hundred million. Next year they figure to finally be in the black again in all markets-- most likely thanks to the Kodo cars.

Boy, you learn something everyday. While reading up on Mazda's finances, I just discovered that Mazda is a Sumitomo company. Sumitomo's a giant. It would take a lot for Mazda to go under, unless the conglomerate drop their support.

I also didn't realize how much of their cars are made in Japan. Article I was reading blamed that for the Mazda's struggles, and how Mazda hopes to move some of the production to Mexico.

I'm not sure that Mazda is like a child of Sumitomo. Sumitomo does a lot of work exporting Toyotas too. I think they have bigger areas of interest than just making sure Mazda makes them money. Capiche?

OK, it doesn't look like they own Mazda(only 6.8% total share noted on JPN wiki page), so it's not like that they are the lone child, but it's not exactly like another investing firm with another automotive company either. In Japan, under circumstance, Mazda would be considered, if not part of a corporate chain/group, an extended group.

Do want!

I love these new Mazdas... they are extremely good looking!!! :)

They've been doing better than they were...

I said looking, as in there is light at the end of the tunnel.
The CX5 has done rather well so far. I don't think there are any reports on the 6 yet but we should see some results in the next month or two. It has definitely gotten tons of great press. If the 3 gets the same acclaim then it should be a winner as well. The 3 in particular already has a huge reputation that the previous two generations have built.

They'll be profitable. How heavily is a different question because they have a lot of R&D to pay for but it should help considerably. The new plant in Mexico will help cut shipping costs to the US drastically, along with labor labor costs. That plant could pay for itself in 10 years.

Because of Mazda's small size these changes happen more slowly than a big company but they've still got plenty of life to make it work.

EDIT: According to Autoblog, Mazda sales volume was up nearly 13% in June compared to the same month last year.

Fuel economy ratings for the hatch:

http://www.autoblog.com/2013/07/11/2014-mazda3-2-0l-hatchback-officially-rated-at-40-mpg-highway/

The Environmental Protection Agency has spoken, and these are the miles per gallon numbers it has officially bestowed on the 2014 five-door Mazda3 hatchback with the SkyActiv-G 2.0-liter engine: 29 city, 40 highway, 33 combined when fitted with the six-speed manual; 30 city, 40 highway and 33 combined when equipped with the six-speed automatic.

I just saw an advert on TV for this car and it seems the NZ spec gets clear rear lights, rather than the flat red ones pictured in this thread.

It really does change the appearance quite drastically, more than I had expected if I'm honest.

Official debut video:

I can't believe a debut video actually got me hyped up about a car.. more specifically a Mazda

I'm glad Mazda haven't forgotten what it means to make a fun car, at least that's what shone through in that video.
