2014 New Zealand / Australia General Discussion

Yea, just going from memory, but I think I was 3rd or 4th in the NZ time trial and remember checking to see where I would've ended up in the Aussie rankings...Think it was only good for like 18th or 22nd or something.
I have seen a few Kiwi names near the top of some of the recent GT6 seasonals so think we still have a fair few talented ones that could get well up on the Aussie rankings too if needed. Unfortunately all this is a bit point pointless though until NZ is officially confirmed.

So fingers crossed but don't hold your breath for NZ to be included?

Any reason why you're not going to compete if it comes back here mate? Surely anyone who's fast enough to make it through to the national final is fast enough to make it to race camp.

I'm going to become a dad for the first time in a couple of months, time trials for changing nappies etc is as good as it's going to get for me
I've spent the last couple of years on iRacing and feel I've become a better driver because of it, so if we were included I think I would be much better prepared....but more than happy with the direction my life has headed so not dissappointed at all about not having another chance at it :)

Spoke to Gary from Sony at the GT Academy tent at Clipsal today, he said New Zealand won't be involved as its a different market.

Well that most likely means that if a New Zealand one is to take place we will have our own seperate qualifier and national final. From my point of view Nissan/Sony NZ can even push it back to 2015 just to see how well their AU counterparts investments do before dipping their toes in the water again.

Just a quick post after racing in GT Academy at the Clipsal 500 event yesterday, apologies if this the wrong area. I had a few drinks yesterday so forgive me if I get some details wrong.

The qualifying race was at Bathurst in the GTR N24 Schulze in an arcade race against computer racers. I was told that anyone with a time under 2:20 (2:15 was also mentioned once) would move onto the second race later in the day. The car had aids enabled and was in full auto. We weren't allowed to change or check any of the settings incl. changing to manual.
I did a 2:12 and moved onto the next race. I also saw a 10yo kid do a 2:13 but didn't see him at the next race. All of those successful in the first round were given a lanyard and told when to come back.

The second round had about 20 competitors using the 6 setups at a time. This time it was the GTR Black edition at Silverstone short on a time trial so you couldn't cut corners etc. All aids were turned off and manual was compulsory but no clutch (thankfully). Each racer was given five laps and their best time recorded. I did a 1:08 which was in the top 3 when 2/3 of the group had finished. One guy did a 1:06 and I heard him mention GT Planet at one stage. I'm assuming that successful entrants will be emailed/called but I'm not holding my breath.

I hope this helps any of those looking for info on the other GT Academy events.

Thanks mate, was wondering what they were running down there. Mate of mine had a go and did a 1:04.7, but he wouldnt tell me car or track! bastard! ;-)

It was silverstone international with the black edition GT-R, racing soft. Sucks I live in Sydney.

It looked like regular GT6 as they needed to clear ghost and time data afterwards and it didn't automatically stop after the 5th lap in the second race. But I haven't done GT Academy beforehand so I don't know what the exact difference between the two is.

haha :P i guess you know now muggo

i should probably get GT6 tbh lol and give the Online TT a go in a month when its up and running but i doubt my 1:04.7 will hold up as there is probably 1:02 in it if youve actually played GT6 before (which i hadnt)

Not sure if this has been mentioned (it probably has) but it needs to be known.

One of my mates ( @TDZdave ) went to the Adelaide 500 (Clipsal) and entered with some (typically of Dave, he's a quick bugger) excellent results... Only to be advised that as he does not have a full licence (has P plates) that he cannot be eligible for victory (and Silverstone) as one of the requirements is a full drivers licence.

This would explain the absence of the 10yo kid mentioned a few posts up I'd say.

Again, apologies if this has been pointed out already 👍

So basically you will need to be over the age of 20 at least here in Qld to go through, lucky I have been on my opens for 3 years almost now

Same here in SA, with the changes to law a few years back it's a 4 year minimum process so if you get your "L's" as soon as you turn 16 you are on them for a year and then on your "P's" for 3 so it's minimum 20yo here too.

The irony for Dave is that he is a truck driver qualified to drive road trains but as his car licence is only provisional he can't qualify... Can drive a billion tonne steal road machine of doom but apparently not a virtual car in a competition  :dunce:

What time are you thinking will be good enough muggo?

Well Dylan told me the process at Adelaide was you got 2, 5 lap runs and the best time was taken. First run i got down to a 1:03.8, on my second run i did a 1:03.2. I think a 1:02 is possible, but it will have to be a dam good lap.

However in saying that, the online part will be completely different from the trackside stuff i'd say.

Yes and I'm still gutted about it,

I wonder if they will have anything at the F1 in Melbourne in a few weeks???? (I hope they do!)

I can tell when the Sydney event comes it's going to be competitive, considering basically all the top guys in OZ are here.

1:03s pretty easy to get but you got to keep in mind the setup they use is with no FFB what so ever and they force the driving line on and I think TC on 5(like wtf is this lol).

So what your saying is a Brissy event for me would almost be a shoe in

I heard their rigs were setup "interestingly". Also was told TC was off. no FFB is a bit interesting!

Surely with the level of seriousness of the event they would have the settings as 'real' as possible with FFB on max, aids off and all race settings as real as possible also...

Either way everyone is in the same boat but the settings described by others in this thread seem a bit whacky, would definitely prefer real sim settings 👍

just read on the Nismo Australia Facebook page that there in the process of building a website which will keep track on the top 14 qualifiers from there live events.
