2014 New Zealand / Australia General Discussion

So is there an online event coming up? Or are they just live events? I missed out on the Melbourne one so where's the next one?. Sorry for all the questions but I'd like to have a shot at it this year.

I've read conflicting reports for the online event 1. That it will be an Academy download, and 2. It will be seasonal type events in GT6

Any confirmation of either?

April for the whole world or just Australia/India?
Surely it must be for the whole world wouldn't it?

We have been told from Nismo Aus on their facebook page it starts in April so that's all I can confirm, but it would surely be worldwide.

Bathurst
SS tyres
Auto
All aids on: car felt very grippy

Silver stone international
RS tyres
GTR black ed 12
TC 1
Abs 1
Manual

So what times have people been doing? I do high 59s with no assists on ss tyres.

I'll have to try RS tyres, but I'd guess mid / low 50's should be where its at (anyone into the 40s?).

Its different at home compared to being at an event. An event is also a test of how you handle the pressure.

Sorry skywalker but you are doing the wrong track mate. You should be around the 1:04 mark, not in the 50's.

Make sure you are on Silverstone International, its the one that uses the new pit complex as the start finish, and then turns right onto the Hanger straight.

Yep, wrong track SKYWALKER
A 1:03"xxx should see you qualify easy and probably a very low 1:04:xxx

But when GT Academy goes live on PS3 i reckon you will need mid to low 1:03's

Ok so here's what I did in one practice go. Now the only difference is that I have a T500RS whereas the live finals are using G27's apparently.

Turned off FFB.

Bathurst single race 2 laps
Nissan Nismo GTR GT3 N24 Schulze

Auto
TC - 5
Abs - 1
ASM - on
SRF - on
SS tyres

Best time - 2:08.2 (pic attached)
**did a 2:07.9 second run but didn't get the pic and can't figure out how to get lap times in single races**

Silverstone international Time Trial 5 laps
Nissan GTR Black Edition '12

Manual
TC - 1
ABS - 1
ASM - off
SRF - off
RS tyres

Best time - 1:03.254 (picture attached) more in it. Prob a high 02.9

That's the general consensus on settings for both events yeah??

Yeah I've been doing Silverstone International, the 1st on the left on the bottom row when you go to world tracks? I thought it was the short, or should I be picking the 2nd from the left on the bottom, the longer GP track?

There Silverstone Stowe at the top on the far right (best time 52s, but its really technical track).

Im using a fanatec GT3 wheel, with max feedback haha.. maybe I should try with no feedback, think I would spin out every turn!

I'm not sure where it is on the board of tracks, but 52 is the wrong time. It is the layout that uses the new pit complex, turns right first turn and then cuts to the hanger straight.

As for the FFB, only reason I did that is because at the live events people are saying that they have it turned off.

I think you may have been doing Silverstone national, which uses the old pits as the start finish, and uses the club straight.

I did the live event at the GP the other day and couldn't put a good lap together seeing as I'm used to having FFB on 5 with electric assist off too.

The way they had it set up did feel like it had maybe FFB on 1 I would say.

Anyone else who did the Live Qualy agree?

I find it a bit strange that they would have us race with little to no feedback, seeing as it is nothing like a real car...

I usually run on 4 or 5, but after switching to 1 it felt a lot more realistic to me. No way a real car's steering is as heavy as 4 or 5 setting. Real cars are a lot lighter in steering feel. I have driven a Radical on the track and that feels more like having FFB on 5, but that's almost a formula car so that's why.

The T500 is a much better wheel than the G27 anyway so there is a big difference between the two. which could explain the difference you are feeling.

Yep your right. I was doing national, not international... my bad! 52 was on the Stowe circuit.

High 104s is my time with RS tyres... looks like I'll need to practice a lot more ;)

National circuit is so much easier haha

haha all good mate, didn't want you practicing the wrong thing all this time.

1:04's aren't bad, nothing wrong with that! Remember, you have to start somewhere mate!! you'll get there. Good luck with it

Holland said he got a 1:03.9 when he went to the GP last weekend at the final, but obviously he was in eligible.

What I don't get is how did he get to the second stage lol.

the first stage is just to see how you go and if your good enough (which it isnt hard) then they invite you back so you can put down a time. but in this case if your not eligible then your time just wont count and it wouldn't be recorded. as there was a few people in Adelaide that got invited back who weren't eligible due to Cams licenses but they just invited them back anyways to see what they could do.

i dare say if anyone does a high 1:03.8 to mid 1:04.5 they will be safe. i was top after Clipsal with a 1:04.7 and after one run on my own simulator at home ive gotten down to a 1:03.6.

but yeah they just invite people back anyways not matter if there eligible or not.

can someone clear this doubt for me? so when gt academy australia/india online events go live anyone and everyone can participate but only the fastest from their respective countries are selected right?

Thanks Josh, is this likely to be the configuration of the online events? Are we thinking towards the start or end of April? Hmmmm , good idea what i'll be doing easter weekend :sly:

These Five Star pedals might come in handy, should put me within +2 seconds of you guys :dopey:

yep, that's right. But they are treated as individual countries. I know for Australia, 28 go to the national final. (14 from live events, 14 from the online event).

No we don't know what the combos are yet, but that is what they are running at the live events such as Clipsal 500 and Melbourne F1 GP. Just some early practice for those planning on going to a live event in the future.

Got to love the 5 star pedals! Piece of Sim-Porn! ;-)

They are great. Haven't made me faster but definitely more consistent than my dying G27's.

Took me a while to get them working on PS3/GT5/GT6 though

I guess like last year they have some 'sector' based license style events as well. Did only the final full lap time trial event count last year, or did they take the fastest average of all the events including the sector times?

I suppose there's a reasonable chance that the online version of this kicks off along with 1.06. It's getting to that sort of time, and I imagine they need some sort of update to enable the competition.

GT Academy has always been a PS Store Download from memory, could be part of the update.
