2014 New Zealand / Australia General Discussion

GT Academy has always been a PS Store Download from memory, could be part of the update.

Nissan site suggests it will be part of gt6-
To earn their grid position, racing driver hopefuls are asked to demonstrate their skill and determination to keep their name at the top of the Gran Turismo®6 leader board, only possible on PlayStation®3 (PS3™)

Hi I have just recently joined GT Planet forums, Just a quick question on the CAMS licence, Is it true that if you have had a CAMS licence you are in eligible? Is that a current licence or a licence held in the last 10 years?

I think it's if you've ever held a National A licence for GT Academy here, so it's likely the same over there. No harm in trying though.

Ok, completely random post here but I was looking through my email the other day and realized that I may have an extra 15th Anniversary code, as I bought the Anniversary Edition with the four pre- order packs, and received a code for the 'Precision Pack' thru email. I also got another code for the 'Torque Pack' thru email, but I already had the content as it was included with the Anniversary Edition.

I hope this can be of use to any Kiwis is Aussies out there. The 'Torque Pack' has the Alpine, GT40, Stratos, Huayra and the Megane Trophy.

Will that mean Australia gets it first or do we have to wait an extra day? Is it the top 28 Or top 40 that go through. I might get started on practicing what track should I be practicing on?

You just asked a load of questions nobody here can answer with certainty, just wait. If you're good enough to qualify, extra prep time isn't going to be that helpful anyway.

Does anyone know of any blogs contestants have done on the national finals, I'd like to get an idea of what is required for the media/fitness and real driving tests.

Every country runs it differently, there's really not much you can do to prepare since they know you'll be wanting to mimic past Finals. Media's simple, just remember to thank Nissan, Sony, etc. and be confident and clear in whatever you're saying. Fitness, just aim to be fit enough to become a basic soldier or cop (although becoming a cop in the US isn't very demanding physically haha, don't know if that's the case in Oz). Real driving tests is the real toss up, I imagine it may be similar to the UK, with Autotest (cones in a parking lot in a Juke or similar) if they're really keen they'll put you in 370Zs around a small track, but there's no way to know. It will be a surprise though, they intend to keep every one on their toes.

Thanks for your help.

I know that there will be a beep test done for the fitness, do you know what scores people got?

Most guys didn't get over 10. Anything over that and you're exceptional I'd say. A lot of 8s and 9s though.

I think Jordan Tresson got 12-ish? Hard to hear from the video.

I'd say anything over 10 would be pretty fit for the purposes of the test, and you probably wouldn't have it held against you. 15 is minimum for AFL players, but they're the most astoundingly fit athletes. I met one the other night, and he told me that in the course of a game he ends up running about 14-15 km.

Edit: Argh, tree'd by @Wardez. :)

I would say for that Nats in Aus they will send us to Melbourne or Sydney and hopefully do some real world driving at Calder Park or Eastern Creek

Oh God, that makes my legs hurt just reading it.

That's like running around Spa twice! (if it was flat xD)

And let me tell you, tracks seem pretty short when you're just lapping around them in a car, but being forced to run around Stowe circuit three times... I wanted to die. I didn't get more than 5 on my bleep test, my fitness level was horrible. But Eric Rivera did worse than me and he went farther in the competition by a couple days, so fitness indeed isn't everything, but it could be different for National Finals, especially considering how Australia's in the International Racecamp, so there's not as many spots.

And yeah, Tresson was up there, but our group (US 2012) in race camp still holds the record at 13 and some, done by Jett Chandler ;) Pretty sure Jett was the best fit competitor ever at Racecamp, but now that title could probably easily belong to Austin Cobb/ @TRC Scooty. But that would be like the ultimate slow-twitch vs. fast-twitch muscle fiber showdown. :D

they have said there sending them the national finalist to Nissan Motorsport HQ in Melbourne.

We'll guess you could watch season one and 2 of Shannon supercar showdown, might be similar to that, being with the Kelly brothers.

And maybe a bit of go kart action at that Todd road(thinks that what it's called)

my best has been 104.488 on a ds3 :X holy jeebus at this laptime, ive found about 5 tenths of a second maybe (2 car lengths distance) so my max time kinda feels like 104 flat

Keep working on it mate. I qualified for the national final in 2010 with a control. So it is possible. Just harder that's all!
