Drew71 I truly hope this doesn't come off as rude, but this competition is designed to take someone from virtual to reality. As a self proclaimed (from what I've seen) pro driver who has won several national events, would you really want to take the chance away from someone who may never have a shot at going pro without this? Almost seems as if you are trying to squeeze in on a loophole to something you are over qualified for. Karting even locally is ridiculously expensive, I would imagine that travelling the country for 9 years to kart means that you (or a parent) is quite well off and likely able to make it in the race world without the aid of an event aimed at amatures. If it were me, I would feel guilty robbing someone of the dream that I was already living. Major cudos to you for accomplishing what you have, but give someone else a chance too!

I won't even comment, all I will say is that I'm not a privileged person and I've worked to get as far as I did. Yes when I introduced myself the word "pro" was used, and that was wrong. Like I said google f1200 and you'll see it's very affordable.

Googled: $6,750 for a roller = not affordable. My point, you have been privileged, be thankful...VERY thankful for what you have been privileged to do.

That's a call the organizers would have to make. Can't say which way they would go.

As for the whole "virtual to reality" part of it, I have an opinion about that but it's something I'd rather keep to myself.

Id rather not tell my whole story, so instead of making accusations of things you are assuming, I would just let the organizers deal with it.

Last year, people called me out because I went to Finals with basically no experience other than any other typical driver. They stated that I took someone else's chance away by being there in the first place. I'm not trying to call you out or anything but I did want to put that out there to show that others have made similar arguments from a different perspective.

My .02 on this is that just because you've been able to race at an amateur level shouldn't disqualify you from going. Of the final 4 last year every one of us had experience racing something. The fact is almost every one of the top 12 had raced something even if it was just autocrossing. For myself I've raced karts a bunch but never anything big, I raced in a formula car racing series at the old Jim Russel school and ran in 3 rallies. Should I have been excluded from competing for that? I don't think so because I never had the chance to make it Pro. It seems some people on GTP don't realize how impossible it is to make it "Pro". Most "Pro" drivers got there because they have massive amounts of money in their family or family connections. Racing is the only sport that talent counts for nothing. So with this being the facts of life if you aren't outside the letter or intent of the rules I say go for it. If you are and you know it don't take someone else's spot. Anyways good luck to everyone going this year. The best advice I could give you is just have fun. You get to do some amazing things with cars once you make it to Silverstone.

Just need the right car for that. My current car apparently isn't up to that since I had to repair the front boots at just 50k. I'm already saving up for something that can survive semi-regular use. I'm not exactly mechanically inclined... yet.

Co-drive. I've also mentioned that. I co-drove my buddies BRZ not long ago and just threw him $20 for tires/gas.

As much as I dislike the car, a Mazda Miata is quite cheap and easy on maintenance. Also makes for a decent auto cross car. My R32, not so much.

How can you dislike the Miata? Does not compute - the answer is always Miata.

The shop I worked for last serviced a lot of them. Plus, I'm not an auto crosser so I typically enjoy a bit more power. That being said, I have driven Spec Miata's around PIR and they are fun!

Have you watched any of the previous GT academy seasons? Even though its billed as virtual to reality, its very much is not. If it was they would keep everyone the whole time at Silverstone and see who was the best/made the most improvement at the end. All of the past winners have had quite a bit of real experience, it is very much needed to win.

Also, while karting may seem expensive compared to the money needed to get a decent setup to run gran turimso, karting is very very cheap compared to what is needed to run a competitive car in any national type series. Being a top karting driver does not mean you are a few steps a way from being offered a pro driving position. As Chris mentioned you normally need to have the large amount of money to run a pro car type series, and if you do really really well in that you *may* get offered a position on a team, if you are really lucky.

Not sure what it's like in your part of the world, but to a typical working Canadian that's not a lot of money, especially if it's your passion and you forgoe other items. There's also nothing privileged about it. It's nothing that can't be achieved by a little hard work and determination.

Well last year after taxes I made $39,xxx - nothing to be ashamed of but nothing to write home about either. After cost of living and necessary items (including medical/health insurance which is not "free" in the US) I know that I do not have an extra $7k to spend on a rolling chassis. That being said, I wish I did!

What a blast got the chance to test drive the virtualGT simulator will cost you 60k if you wanted your own
It has the trackstar7000 wheel and Todd cannon pedals and full motion rig with triple screens
So my test drive turned in to 3.5hr session off and on :) I got there around 12 ended up leaving around 7 lol I ended up showing prospective buyers how to go fast felt like I was working for them already lol ,,, so we get to talking about me going to gt academy
And what do you know I get offered to come in once a week to get some seat time and training from GMG team Audi and it's drivers :) I couldn't be more great full all I did was ask for test drive on the simulator and turned into so much more don't ever be afraid to ask for something either you'll be told no but you have nothing to lose in my case it turned out for the better on a 10x fold

I got my email, quickly responded saying I can't make it.

Time to get jumping guys. Good luck to all that get them.

Same here. I have also responded that I will not be attending. Hopefully they can quickly get the invite to the next fastest eligible qualifier.

FYI, the event in NYC is right around the corner. They want you arrive on Wednesday, July 9th and depart on Saturday the 12th.

Good luck racers.

Turned down my invitation as well.

For travel arrangements, they were rather flexible last year about letting people arrive earlier and leave later. Don't be afraid to ask about that. 👍

Email has arrived. Quite odd that they're doing it Wednesday-Saturday. They've always done it over the weekend before, and I'm sure that makes it much easier for people to get time off from work or school, so I wonder why they chose to start it a day earlier this year.

Nevertheless, congrats to everyone receiving an email, and I'll see you in NYC. 👍

I'm not going to NY:::((((,Le Mans 24H just failed.Open spot for next driver.Good luck for all finalist.

dang, was hoping to meet you.

I was hoping it would be over the weekend so I wouldn't have to ask so much time off. Look forward to meeting you all.

Looks like only of 1 of the 4 Canadians will only be able to attend silverstone

Section 10.8 Canadians rules..

At the North American Finals, Semi-Finalists will compete and race against each other and the winners of a U.S. online contest using GT6 for ONE of 12 North American Finals slots to attend and compete in the GT Academy Boot Camp, which will take place at Silverstone Circuit in the United Kingdom. Separate contest rules apply to each of the North American Finals and GT Academy Boot Camp. Semi-Finalists must meet the eligibility requirements described in the Addendum attached hereto to participate in the North American Finals and GT Academy Boot Camp.

Hmm, the way I read it, the top Canadian regardless of how the other US finalist perform is guaranteed to reach Silverstone.

Posted this on the practice racing thread but it's so important, I'll leave it here as well.

Moment after you get to the hotel, go to John's Pizzeria on 44th Street. We got fed pizza a few times during Finals last year but nothing even came close to their margherita pizza. Someone please have a slice in my honor. :sly:
