I'm currently looking to arrive at the hotel somewhere around 7 pm. For those not attending the national final, I'll be posting updates as they happen on my Twitter account. I'm also hoping to capture some footage so I can make a video about the event much like Tidgney did last year.

Looking forward to seeing you all soon :gtpflag:
Me and glen having a whale of a time so far.

Congratulations to all those who made it through as well today, was a really fun day and a great experience.

Now super pumped for tomorrow, will be great to meet all the others.

I'm at the hotel, making the most of my free 30 minutes of internet. Earlier on there were about eight of us, including Tidgney and Neil Williams from last year's Race Camp, sat around a table chatting about various stuff.

I'm really psyched for tomorrow, we have to leave at 7:45 so I'd better get a good night's sleep :)

Top six from GTPlanet twitter:

Luke Williams (JLWilko)
Ben Spurge (Spurgy777)
Alex Porazinski (Alexpez)
Stuart Miller (SMillar13)
Karl Chard (KarlChardracing)
Shane Green (GTP_GhostDriver)

Well done to the winners, I'll be following your progress and I'll definitely be watching the TV series and remembering faces - good luck!

For us who didn't make the cut, remember a person isn't defined by their peaks but the way they ascend valleys - good luck!

Congrats to the finalists. A little gutted but happy with a top 10, would have loved to have seen overall scores today though.

Was a brilliant two days, put alot of faces to names. Bring on 2015!

How did you find that out? Would have been great to see the actual standings, especially the individual times in the GT6 and driving events. :indiff:

The order we were called was the order we finished, they also gave us our score cards after I asked them :) I got 1st in the gaming, 2nd in the driving, probably around 7th in the fitness and 11th in the media, even though I thought that was one of my best (we weren't told the exact points system, just that it was F1 style, so guessing last two positions).

Ah, would've been great to get a scorecard. :(

Hey guys,

Absolutely gutted to have missed out, I honestly thought I had done enough to make the top 6. :(

We were split into four groups of seven, and we took it in turns to perform each challenge. My group had Shane, Ben, Jack Keithley and Ryan Clark, can't remember the other two off the top of my head. We did the media test first; no idea how I fared compared to the others, but I think I did quite well.

The second challenge was fitness. I was the only one in the group to hold the plank for five minutes; much better than last year where I managed just over two. I wasn't so great at the sergeant jump; I managed 42.8 cm, while the best result was around 56 cm. Finally, I managed 50 press-ups; only Shane was able to beat me with 55. The bleep test would be done at the end with all 28 competitors.

The third challenge was driving. Again, it was a Nissan Juke Nismo around an autocross course. I did okay in my practice runs, stopping in each box perfectly, though I struggled a lot with the second slalom, repeatedly knocking cones down. Then came my timed run and I overshot the first box! That, combined with 2 cones knocked down in the second slalom gave me a 7 second penalty.

That put the pressure on to do well in the gaming. There were three rounds: round 1 was a 370Z at Ascari Race Resort, 4 laps, best lap counts; round 2 was the GT-R RJN at Silverstone International, 3 combined laps; round 3 was a super pole lap in a GT-R Schulze Motorsport at Suzuka. We got 10 minutes to practice whatever combos we pleased, plus we got one practice lap at the start of each round. (EDIT: all combos used RH tyres.)

Despite Ascari not being one of my favourite tracks, I managed a 2:14.0 on lap 3, the quickest of the group. In round 2 I managed a 1:02.5, 1:02.4 and 1:03.0, putting me very close to Ben; I actually don't know who was quicker overall. Finally, in round 3 I managed a 1:59.8, also the fastest of the group. I was really thrilled to have done so well in the gaming; certainly one of the very best this year.

Finally, all 28 of us did the bleep test together. I managed to push myself to level 8/8 or 8/9; a big improvement over last year where I only made it to level 5. People started going out at level 4, and I was surprised to find that most of the others had dropped out by the end of level 8. There was one guy made it to level 13.

I eventually found out that I finished 9th, and that my worst performance was in the driving challenge; I was 14 seconds overall off the quickest time, and for that I paid the price.

Maybe, just maybe if I hadn't overshot the first box in the driving challenge, I would be typing this in a more cheerful mood, but nevertheless I had a great time and would like to thank the organisers for once again doing a fantastic job, and also to @Tidgney, @GTP_Ingram and Neil Williams for adjudicating the gaming, and of course @Famine who I'm pretty sure out-performed me in the driving challenge. 👍

And of course, a big congratulations to those who did make it, including @Spurgy 777, @The Watcher and @GTPGhost. Go Team GB!

First in gaming? I do remember seeing a '4' written down that looked a lot like a '9'; maybe my 1:02.4 was misread as a 1:02.9, and that was enough to give you the overall edge. Not taking anything away from you though, your place at Race Camp is well-deserved. 👍

Unlucky Matt, as you said, I think it was just the mistake in the driving that meant you just missed out. But still, you performed very well in the fitness and gaming 👍

As for the gaming, I'm not sure how they worked out the scores, I thought you might have beaten me, but maybe our score difference was affected by other peoples times. Either that or I was told the points system wrong and it started at 30 or something.

Pure madness, I can't believe they take so many people now, in my best year they only took the top 2 from the nationals, crazy!! All this talk of wildcards eh? The real wildcards would be the people who came 3rd in a year when they only took the top 2 I reckon now that's what you call a wildcard!! :)

Out of interest, what was quickest time in driving?

@gm matthew I'm surprised you were confident of making it given what you mentioned in driving part - knocking down cones and overshooting first box.

The fastest time in driving was 60 seconds, not sure who achieved it.

Last year I had finished in 11th with significantly worse gaming and fitness results, and I was convinced that my improvement this year would make up for my poor result in driving. Also, at the time I had no idea that I was 7 seconds off the pace even without the penalties.

Thanks for posting time.

Driving is usually weighted quite a bit and makes a noticable difference to score in getting top six position. If the people judging see you constantly knock cones and also get time penalty in final run for still doing it, they take note of that against you so reason why I was surprised of confidence as 7 second penalty puts you on back foot a lot on a short course. OK I guess you probably thought you were going quick but confident I think would need a relatively flawless lap with strong showing in other tests given past years results affected by driving element.

All the events were weighted equally this year. :)

Good to hear, still can make all the difference though, for example if you hit couple of cones you may have been out the top six so shows there is fine margins and good that competition is tough. Did Shane come six, order GTPlanet twitter listed correct or one shown on screen as 5th correct? He narrowly missed out last year so good to see him make it this time and it is still not easy to make it no matter how experienced you are which is good to see 👍.

Had an awesome time at the nationals! met some great people, and was extremely happy to make the top 10!

Good luck to the final 6, and have a great time at racecamp!

:gtpflag:

@Spurgy 777 who topped the driving?

One question!

With What setup did you drive the 370z around Ascari?

I drive 2:13 With the GT-R around Ascari and this year i posted 2:14:866 at spa in round 4 so in not that bad as a driver ;)

Cheers!

Never mind! Did a 2:14:1 With RH now!

Stock, but with RH tyres. Only ABS 1 as an aid and grip reduction on real. We got a practice lap followed by 4 timed laps.

Pretty certain the car didn't have an oil change either.
