2015 DAKAR Thread

Robby Gordon is a world class driver but the Gordini needs to get the bugs worked out. The Hummer was pretty dialed in when he sold it to Yazeed but it didn't have an FIA approved cage. Robby's biggest downfall is he lacks the money and support of the factory teams. Basically a one man operation. Nobody could ever doubt the talent there.

- Yea, the Hummer was perfect in Africa, but I guess with the tighter roads in South America he decided to make a smaller more agile chassis. I thought when I first saw the new Gordini the wheel-base was too short, but obviously he knows what he's doing.

- Yea, Robby has almost always ran his own teams with no factory support, there is no doubt factory support would help.

Nice car, they finished today again. Great they have a matching number.
That door opening though

Just seen that Ayrat Mardeev won the stage in the truck race today to take the overall lead. Would love him to score a strong result come the end in memory of his dad, Ilgizar, who also had success on the Dakar driving for Kamaz.

He had factory support when he first started the Hummer from GM. It had a ton of help from them before they got out of it for him. It looks shorter than it really is, but it's very stable.

Bad news from Tim Coronel's twitter account. :grumpy:

QUOTE : " Update: Tim is behind the service truck on his way to the bivouac. It looks like the adventure is over."

EDIT: And he is out...

Very sad day in the Dakar. I read some rumors on a few different sites, but it has sadly been confirmed by ASO.

Sad news, I wonder what actually happened because it seems like a short time period between time they stopped tracking til they found him dead.

After a very sad day yesterday, they are now underway for stage 4. It is very harsh but the Dakar always continues.

Tom Coronel got a starting time after appealing his disqualification yesterday. He was asked to help a biker by the ASO and that's why he missed the last CP. Later the same ASO want's to disqualify him for missing a CP.

Still uncertain if he can start tomorrow.

Peterhansel could bring Peugeot their first stage victory in 25 years!
(EDIT: No he doesn't (yet), Al-Attiyah takes the SS again ! )

Ten Brinke doing great in his Toyota!

Bad day at the office for Sainz and MR. R.G.

After another heavy stage that started late there are still, 26 cars, 21 bikes, 5 quads and 19 trucks on the stage somewhere in the dessert.

Hope most of them can still manage to reach the bivouac in time.

Flying Dutchman ;)

At the end of stage 5:
- First stage win this Dakar for Coma on his KTM 👍
- Only 20 seconds between number 1 Vasilyev (MINI) and number 2 Al-Rajhi (Toyota) after 4hr and 20min SS
- KAMAZ is having a great Dakar and seem unbeatable at the moment

Just in case anyone hasn't seen, Sainz has rolled heavily and retired.

Did you see how he looked halfway the stage when they where stuck?
He was exhausted and was not looking very well.
They where brought to hospital for a check up.
