2015 DAKAR Thread

Only the second day, so many things can still happen. Gordon looks strong, hopefully he doesn't mess it up this year.

Many things could happen, such as Robbie losing a huge amount of time today (well over an hour), Peterhansel has lost lots of time too, Al-Attiyah retakes the lead 8 minutes ahead of De Villiers' Toyota.

The big news today appears to be Carlos Sainz hitting a motorcycle, not much news yet though...

Still no news on Sainz and his accident?

Sadly Stéphane Peterhansel did loose a lot of time in his Peugeot, was hoping he could beat the Mini's.

Also a disastrous day for biker Sam Sunderland and his top 10 ambitions.
Winning yesterday, but losing over 2 hrs today.

Al-Attiyah is really the man to beat at the moment.

EDIT: What a surprise. Robby Gordon will again not win the Dakar, brakes over heating? WTF!!

This link (in Spanish) gives Sainz's interview after the stage, http://www.eleconomista.es/ecomotor....html?utm_source=crosslink&utm_medium=twitter

Sounds like the rider was lost and going the wrong direction. There is no mention of his condition there or on the actual Dakar blog so we can only assume it is nothing too serious.

Peterhansel was stuck in 2nd gear according to elsewhere on the internet, Gordon is waiting for the support truck to tow him to the finish.

Those Peugeot's looks very good indeed.
Hope Bobby Gordon does a whole lot better this year, last year was a sad affair.
He always drives spectacular and looking to go in an all or nothing kind of way. But that doesn't win you a Dakar.

- Bobby?

-- Robby Gordon has got off to a great start this year! 2nd place after stage 1 ! Robby will be driving in his usual aggressive style that has won him multiple Baja 1000 titles in past, he has no problem hauling a$$ through marathon events, lets just hope for good luck as every participant will need.

- As far as the trucks go, im sure the Russians will still win even though they stop to help other competitors.

- USA doesn't have a great team in the Bike class this year, so its ALL on Robby! I'm excited to watch Robby impose the American off-road style on the international rally style. !

Am afraid you didn't see the latest news on your beloved country man, Robby Gordon.
Sadly again a failure and he lost a couple of hours.

Went to the Obelisco with my friends a couple of days ago, and frankly the cars bored the hell out of me. Saw Robbie Gordon first-hand inside his car, but sadly few drivers did anything more than just cruise through the avenue. At least a couple actually floored the cars (only to brake 20 meters later).

- np, just sets up for an even better story when he wins it! Don't 4get Americans never quit baby-boy!

-- Robby Gordon still has a better chance to win then Bererd du Ruuy...

Can imagine the cars or trucks can't go full speed through the city center?
Bikes any better?

Here in Holland we always have a pre-prologue event beginning of November with almost all Dutch competitors on a
GP Motocross track (Valkenswaard).
That's always quite impressive and a nice chance to see the cars/trucks/bikes up close and have a chat with the competitors.

Spoken like a true patriot

That's right!

- You speak just like someone who doesn't know what they are talking about. If you don't know the correct name of a world class racer like Robby Gordon then don't be spelling it. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

I don't expect them to drive in race speed, but certainly I can expect them to drive at normal pace, which is basically how everyone drives on a normal day at the city center. :irked:

I'm sorry I made at typographical error on his name.
Probably because he is a "world class racer" in the US only. He didn't achieve an awful lost overseas did he? ;)
Sure he is a great driver and has an interesting back ground (covered with a lot of controversies :odd:).

Gerard de Rooy already won a Dakar (like his father) and was second last year so he has already proven he is a contender for the truck class win.

Lets start here...

- If you simply don't like American's or Robby Gordon then just say so, don't be corny & don't front baby-boy. Otherwise, don't talk about drivers in your OP if you don't know or like them.

- Take a minute & google Mexico, do your best to determine weather that's a different country then the USA.

- The Baja 1000 has been an international event since the 60's.

- If you don't know what he has achieved internationally? then don't talk about him.

- Word class, means WORLD CLASS!
--------------------------------------------------------
Now, about Bererd de de Van du du R00y...

- The potential competition pool for racing Tractor's is MUCH smaller then racing the Premier Dakar car class. Why?...
---- Racing Tractor's is a regional/cultural discipline, Racing rally/off-road is a WORLD sport. Therefore, Robby Gordon is competing against MUCH more skilled drivers. Lets make that clear first off.

- Racing Tractors is admirable, but EVEN the Quad class has a more broad and skilled class.

--- Fun Fact: Bererd doo doo Van boo boo Roy stuck his head out of his Tractor at the start of the Dakar and shouted; " I'm Dutch!, isn't that VIERD? "

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I will continue to state facts in an ill advised attempt to inform you...

-- Robby Gordon:

  • 7 SCORE International championships (1986–90, 1996, 2009)
  • 3 time Baja 1000 winner (1987, 1989, 2006)
  • 4 time Baja 500 winner (1989, 1990, 2005, 2013)
  • 9 Dakar Rally stage victories
  • 3 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series wins (New Hampshire '01, Infineon and Watkins Glen 03')
  • 1 NASCAR Sprint Cup Gatorade 125 Win (2003)
  • 1 NASCAR Nationwide Series win (Richmond '04)
  • 2 CART wins (Phoenix and Detroit '95)
  • 1 Central Europe Rally Special wins (2008 CER Stage 5 Scratch 1 winner (1/2 stage) Hummer)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lets goooo!!!!

Look up the ' Rolex 24 hours of Daytona ' , im sure you don't know what it is, but I will teach you my son....
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In 1990, Gordon began racing sports cars. He won races in both Trans-Am and IMSA Camel GT, where he had four consecutive class wins in the 24 Hours of Daytona from 1990–1994, and three consecutive 12 Hours of Sebring class wins.

@gurizzi

Thanks for your lessons.👍

I never said or mentioned anything that I don't like Americans, so if you somehow did get this impression hereby my apologies.

I have been in Mexico and the US so I am aware they are completely different countries.
I can use Wikipedia as well so no need to sum up all his incredible wins.

You are completely right about Robby Gordon. He is the best rider in the world and will surely show all competitors in the Dakar how it should be done.

Now please stop fouling up this tread and start your own "Praising the GREAT Robby Gordon Tread".
Thank you.

He's the best driver from the U.S. named Robby Gordon, that's about as far as I would go.

This made me laugh a lot.

... anyway, looks like the front runners have been relatively trouble free today.

You forgot Mexico, Europe, Africa & now South American.

@gurizzi please just stop. It's embarrassing, pointless and really detracting from a good thread.

People have different opinions, deal with it like a sane and rational person and move on.

- Its not nearly as embarrassing as ur avatar.

- If ANYONE post's incorrect and or negative comments about ANY racer I like, I will give my opinion & support.

- A good thread? he doesn't even know the names of the Professional racers he's TRYING to comment about.

👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

Having a crush on a woman isn't embarrassing.

That's fair enough but you seem to miss the fact that opinions aren't facts.

The Dakar is a huge event, nobody claims to know every single driver and rider.

- Then make sure you spell said drivers name correctly if you take the time to build a thread like this. Don't make a comment complimenting Gordon's talents then follow it with a 'but', when you did not have critical comments on the other listed drivers. (see OP).

- Are you really explaining its a big event? when did you notice? And no one is listing EVERY participant here, He listed a few drivers(Gordon being one) & failed to do his homework.

He started this topic for discussion about the Dakar, the OP was to start a discussion (not this one, but a good one) about each question.

I noticed a while ago actually. Back when I first followed it... 2011 maybe? He didn't do his homework but does that really need a million bitchy posts about it? The only reason i can see for these is you're one of those trolls. Your posts have been reported and I'm going to starve you of the attention you pathetically crave.

Do what you got to do baby-boy!

Snitches get stiches

Robby Gordon is a world class driver but the Gordini needs to get the bugs worked out. The Hummer was pretty dialed in when he sold it to Yazeed but it didn't have an FIA approved cage. Robby's biggest downfall is he lacks the money and support of the factory teams. Basically a one man operation. Nobody could ever doubt the talent there.
