For the first time in Dakar history a Dutch 3rd place with the cars!! GO Ten Brinke!
The Toyota's are doing great.

(by the way, does nobody follow the Dakar here on GTP?)

I follow more on FB than anything but I pretty much only keep up with Robby as anyone else isn't someone I care too much about.

In the Netherlands it's well covered with a 1 hour long program every night with reporters travelling with the Dakar. Mainly because there are quit some Dutch competitors.

Also "Eurosport" has a half hour update of the days stage every night.

EDIT: 10 January 2015

I was unexpectedly send to Denmark for a job, so can't keep this updated at the moment.

Started from Buenos Aires 161 bikes.
Started from Buenos Aires 45 quads.
Started from Buenos Aires 137 cars.
Started from Buenos Aires 63 trucks.

Just got back from Denmark, have some catching up to do on the Dakar.

A proper Dakar with only a handful of finishers.

Finished in Buenos Aires 79 bikes.
Finished in Buenos Aires 18 quads.
Finished in Buenos Aires 68 cars.
Finished in Buenos Aires 43 trucks.

He was a bit overexcited after finally winning a stage in this Dakar. :P

(While the rest of the drivers took it easy to not mess it up the last day )

Now back to the drawing board to build a proper car. (or buy a Mini?)

I don't think he needs to build a proper car, the car isn't the issue that hurt his overall. He is his own enemy, if you could give him the same Gordini with fresh crew and he is resting after every stage....you wouldn't see the issues.

As far as the video posted above, it is what it is....just enjoying the moment. No one seemed to be too bothered by it honestly, I wouldn't let it affect my opinion.

But you wouldn't see a Dakar??

(I do seem to remember that on stage 2 he almost lost 4 hours due to mechanical issues, so the car did hurt his overall I would say)

I don't know what you wouldn't see a Dakar means? He lost time for some mistakes, but most was not car related. The brake issue was a big one, I don't know what the issue was but seems like someone didn't tighten it down enough or it worked itself loose.

I was revering to your bolded text above, that's IMO not how a Dakar should be.

For the brakes see below:

I saw that same video, that's why I'm betting it was something that worked loose like a brake line that kept the fire going with brake fluid. I could be wrong completely but thats my theory.

I agree, it shouldn't be that way but that's where money comes into play. If ACO wanted to actually be fair, they would limit the crew to x amount per car and only that car. So you couldn't have 40 guys for 4 cars, but only one needs to really be worked on.

Dakar is finished. Thanks to all who have participated in this tread and maybe till next year.

Next on agenda WRC at Monte Carlo. 👍 Loeb can still drive a WRC car a lot better then a WTCC car .
