I held a test room for Fuji last week, and we came up with the idea of GTPlanet Rally Series. :P Who would like to see rally join GTPlanets leading racing series? @Sinyster

Provisional rules idea:

Cars:
The cars are limited to roadcars, 300 hp, and 1250kg. You are not allowed to change your model or color after participating in an event.

Qualifying rounds:
It begins with a 15 or 30 minute QP session for 12 drivers.
The main races will be 2 to 5 laps in length depending on the length of the track
Heavy Damage is on, so try to be clean
Race 1 will feature the qualifiers: 1st,3rd,5th,7th,9th, and 11th
Race 2 will feature the qualifiers: 2nd,4th,6th,8th,10th, and 12th
The top three drivers from each race will move on to the final rounds

Final Rounds:
The remaining 6 will compete in a race similar to qualifying races 1 and 2, except in reverse.
2 drivers will move on to a head to head race on the reverse circuit for the gold trophy. :)
You use touring cars and theres 1 to 3 races depending on the track

This is not the forum to discuss this.

Looking over the thread recently, I've noticed a bit of talk about driver ratings... My opinion on them, is that they don't really matter all that much, or for what I do at least. (only race a couple times a season) I've raced with the best of the best, beaten numerous guys that go to GTAcademy, and am still a bronze rated driver. I think more people should spend less time worrying what rating they have, and focus on driving the friggen car come race day... All the rating system really is, is a sort of ego booster or something to put on your virtual racing résumé

But that's just a young Canadian 'hoser's $0.02 ;)
Not for nothing but I have to agree here with Rob. Going head to head with him on many occasions the driver rating really in the end means nothing. Going by real world ratings is great an all, but in the end I can stay bronze for the rest of my life here on the GTPES.

I absolutely love this series and will not stay away from it. With that said though, there is a ton more I can learn an implement into my racing. One simple mistake can easily change the course of what will happen during a race.

Being g the fact both of us (Rob and myself) have raced against former GTA drivers and proven ourselves against them I can only come to this conclusion. We all work hard to become better at what we love to do. We walk away with a better experience an insight after every race we include ourselves in. The single underlining fact of racing is that we have helped each other out at every second we get because if we did not we would not understand greatness.

The GTPES has certainly put together the best racers on GT6 that I have seen. There is a level of elitism shown from it. A good joke here and there helps calm the mood, but the egos need to be put aside. That is what separates those that are good and those that will achieve excellence. I feel humble because I have traded paint with those that will achieve excellence, I just need a kick in the butt to push harder to join them.

+1

Being humble is a great quality to have, both in the professional setting and just racing online. To me there's a difference between being confident in yourself and having a massive ego. It's great for us to have confidence in our own ability, but there's no need to run around and constantly talk about how fast you and/or your friends are and rubbing it in everyone's faces. I'll be honest it's something I have been guilty of before, and it's taken me nowhere but higher expectations and not being a very respected person. I know I'm not the fastest, but I do believe I can get around the track in an LMP and be decent at it. Today I try to be as modest and humble with myself as I can, and it's really taken a load off and my reputation appears to be improving because of it. Not to mention my performance, without all of that pressure on myself be it from me or my peers I appear to be driving better and to a higher standard of discipline because of it.

I know I'm not the best. :) getting closer to them every week though, and it feels good! :D

Quick question... Can your driver rating only go up? Or if you have a couple of nightmare races could you go from platinum back to gold for instance?

I think this was something that was discussed in the most recent team manager's meeting. As far as I know there isn't but next season there might be a system to appeal driver ratings to go up or down depending on the circumstances.

Step 1. Get it wired, highest grade patch cable you can find.
Step 2. Plug the router into the internet directly at the master socket (where it enters the house).
Step 3. In your router control panel, assign the PS3 a static IP address*. It may also help to assign everything else in your house a static IP address.
Step 4. In your router control panel, assign that static IP address to the Demilitarised Zone/DMZ
Step 5. In your PS3 XMB Network Settings...
Internet Connection Settings -> Custom -> Wired Connection -> Auto Detect -> Manual
IP Address is whatever you set in the router, Subnet Mask is usually 255.255.255.0, Default Router is the same IP Address you assigned to the PS3 only with a .1 at the end*, Primary and Secondary DNS can be set to your ISP's DNS, OpenDNS's (208.67.220.220 & 208.67.222.222) or Google's (8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4)
-> Automatic -> Do Not Use -> Enable -> X to Save Settings -> Test Connection
Step 6. If this still doesn't work, get a new ISP and check that they're "gamer friendly"

*Exactly what those IP Addresses are will vary depending on the router you use. The commonest Default Router ISP is 192.168.0.1, but you will need to check. For the computers I use the .10-.19 range, for the laptops/netbooks I use the .20-.29 range, for the consoles I use the .30-.39 range and for the phones I use the .40-.49 range; the IP Address I use for my main PS3 is 192.168.0.30

That's likely to be the case, but not specifically for that reason - the consoles aren't just communicating with @AJ's, but with each other.

It's simply because internet traffic takes three tenths a second to get from Australia to the UK - or back the other way - and it goes through North America in the process. Traffic from all over Australia heading to Europe goes to Sydney and then either across to New Zealand and then the Pacific up to LA or up to Seattle. Then it goes across the USA and out of New York through one of about ten cables each the size of a car across the Atlantic over to the UK. It's about a 15,000 mile trip - which is 300ms at the speed of light, not including the relays and routers at each end.

The more Europeans there are, the worse it'll appear for @StigsTC or any Australian, because his console has to talk to ALL of theirs. And theirs to his too.

All he can do is sort out about 10% of the lag by optimising his internets. Some of the rest of it is just because the internet goes under two oceans eastwards, and not one westwards (but if it did that, you'd see US-Australia lag instead). Most of it is because we live in a universe limited by the speed of light and he's a long way away

Last couple of days been having some black screen and DC's that have not happened before so have gone the whole hog, PS3 is port forwarded, IP reserved, and placed in DMZ - but I want to test this, I want to try and force a DC any ideas on how best to achieve this :)? I'd rather find out about it today than tomorrow!!

Best way to force a DC? Try and join @beau231 's lobbies

My idea, simply get someone to host a room, then get a few guys, around 5-6, including yourself, to all join the room at once. Should disrupt the connection, and bamn, you've dc'd. I'm certainly no network-god or anything, thats just a random idea i think would work best. 👍

I have created a prototype for NERDS 1.3! NERDS 1.2 was used today for the first time and it looks absolutely brilliant! However it has faults, it doesn't tell us much information and the commentators get the job of "Tell us what everyone is doing." And then they sound confused for a minute, while they track down the info. This is meant to solve that problem by using a compact information system that vastly increases in viewer and commentator available data to analyze the race.

Here is a photo comparison, between my prototype and today's system. I quickly made this in Microsoft paint, so things still need to be touched up.

NERDS1.3 PROTOTYPE INTERFACE

New Features:
- GAP Board on the bottom has been compacted and instead of scrolling horizontally will change dynamically and can display up to 6 drivers at a time! (Still needs to be touched up, but you can imagine how much faster it is to use.)

-Dynamic Information panel. This is the most important part of this update. On the right hand side where it says "team names," can alternate to different things every 15 seconds or so. It can show driver names, cars best lap, last lap, drivers best lap, team name, positions gained or lost or anything else that you can cram into that little box. :)

The Dynamic Information panel would be incredible addition to GTPES and GTPKS. And could revolutionize the whole viewing experience. "Like" this post if you would like to see more information to speculate on while watching the race.

I like the concept, but remember, creating all the different images for when a car does a new FL to be displayed on the side of screen or what not would be really time consuming, and then our hourly updates would take even longer to be updated because AJ is to busy creating a new image to be placed on the side because a car went half a tenth quicker....
Really like the rest of the ideas though! Certainly all for the team names being displayed on the right hand side again :) One thing i've missed and as a commentator, makes my life 110 times easier.

Nope, it can be partially automated. And there could be a behind the scenes guy like a steward that updates it. :)

Edit: If there is not a person there to update it actively, it could still show team names and driver names. I think the commentators could type in the driver changes without much issue since they only happen about 12 times per hour. :)

Yeah, but then we have a steward that isn't watching the race for any kind of infringement.... from working behind the scenes a little, i know how much effort these guys put in, anyway the amount of work they can do can be reduced, i think is a step forward. Just seems a little bit too much added work for a very little gain, especially when it gives us commentators a chance to talk about something as we can often be stretched for conversation at times!
Just my 2 cents

I think things like more readily available "last lap" information would actually improve the commentating experience, because you could follow who is catching who more easily. and if someone that usually sets a 2:00.000 sets a 2:15.000 then you know something is wrong with that car and can focus in on it. :) Also, I made an edit to my previous post about using barebones amount of information if there is not enough people present to keep it updated.

I will make an update terminal demo if anyone would like to see how this will function. Time to get out that handy dandy notebook. :)

Update: Demo gui completed after 2 hours of work :D, but only the radio button works so far. :P

Hopefully we will have some more answers along with the N24 next weekend. :) This season has been great. It's passed by so quickly, yet so slowly at the same time. We only have a few races left. #LetsGoSportsCarRacing :)

I will be posting something special in approximately one hour. Who wants to guess what it is?
Well if I had to guess, I am betting a new interface that could possibly revolutionize our races... but who am I to guess.

Your 3 minutes late ;-)
