@outlaw4rc Greats hints man. Keepem coming. I can speak on most peoples behalf when I say thank you.
Not a problem. I may not have the real life driving background needed to be competitive but the least I can do is get people over the virtual reality bump. đź‘Ť

Considering this is Round 1, it's more important learning what needs to be done in order to go fast. Execution doesn't need to be pinpoint right now, just good enough that you have a solid time and know it can be better with more polish. Besides, no need to have recurring nightmares with this combination.

finnally got into the .07s. My time is now 07.445 and that puts me somewhere around 15th in Belgium. I think this is my limit. Good luck guys!
I wouldn't be so sure you've hit your limit just yet - I set a time 3/4 days ago that I couldn't even come close to and just finished a session where I've dropped another half a sec and if I'd have been tidy the whole lap I would have come close to a second off my best.

There's good advice about not tyring to hard and "burning out" but I also recommend pushing when you think that you can go no further as when the final round goes live its going to be who's able to push through that "mental" block as it were. đź‘Ť

Wowzers! 2:05.796, really got no idea where I found all the time, but was .25 faster to T2 and gained a further .2ish in sector 3. Only real time left to gain is about a tenth in sector 1 and a tenth a Copse (ran wide, again :ouch:).

Obviously spending practically no time playing GT6 all year has really improved my driving.

Right guys, for all you having the issue with the car being slower sometimes, the fix is quit the event, go back to the gt academy event selection and simply re-enter! Which is what wildchild said. I had time to test it tonight, after half an hour of playing and finally getting 2:06.2 on a very good lap, i quit the event, went back in and on lap 1 i matched my best of 2:05.5 with a very bad lap. It is most certainly an issue! Now i need to relearn the braking points as i have got used to the slowness haha! Just gotta find the time to do it now.

Is it possible that the differing grip levels are caused by track temperature? In the pre-driving menu you can see the weather, time of day and track temp. I haven't checked yet to see if it's consistent from session to session. IIRC the GT-R at Bathurst last year also has this problem. Certainly a big fail from PD if this is the case.

Finally did a 02:05! I am SO HAPPY! I am 7th in Germany at the moment! Wow! Sorry for the loud yelling at the end of the video...

Throughout the whole video I was thinking "How the hell is he gonna beat his ghost? Looks like he could still go much faster if he beats this by the end." At the end of the lap I finally realized it's someone else's ghost . Anyway, well done!

No apologies needed. If anything, it captures that glorious moment that makes it all worthwhile. :D

As for varying grip levels per session, all I can say is that if exiting and entering gains you time for whatever reason, do it.

@outlaw4rc thanks to your hints and watching a few replays I was able to improve .9 since my previous personal best. Im not sitting on a 2:05.790. If this was the final event, the cut off time would probably be a 2:05.5 I think. So im not too far off the pace.

Keep pushing everyone.

So, quite a long delay with this so apologies anyone who was waiting on it! I was also a little rusty but the message still comes across so worth a watch if you're still looking to improve!!

Corner Guides:

Turn 1 (Abbey): 1:50
Turn 2 (Farm): 3:20
Turn 3 (Village): 4:20
Turn 4/5 (Loop/Aintree): 6:05
Turn 6 (Brooklands): 7:55
Turn 7 (Luffield): 9:55
Turn 9 (Copse): 12:00
Turn 10-14 (Maggots, Becketts, Chapel): 13:55
Turn 15 (Stowe): 16:35
Turn 16/17/18 (Vale/Club): 17:45

Fast Commentary: 19:30

Also I think in the next one I'll add some background music and turn my voice up a little bit as it seems a little low. Any comments as always are welcome as mentioned early I was a little rusty with doing a big guide like this!

Any questions fire away as I'm about to answer the ones left on youtube now!

Thanks Tidge, I think I can speak for everyone here when I say your expertise and willingness to help others out is greatly appreciated here. Its a great asset to us lesser skilled people to have people like you, @outlaw4rc and others to help us out in these events. Thanks guys, your time and effort is greatly appreciated.

EDIT: Just noticed that cargorat323 :P came online while you were doing your video. Guess that's one way for me to make a cameo appearance.

Great Video tutorial - Thanks Tidgney, I hope you don't mind that I've added it to the OP. đź‘Ť

Spot on explanation but it's the real time application that I have trouble with.

Will give this another go tomorrow to see if I can get into the 2.05s, thanks again.

What hardware did you guy use to minimise lap times ?

I have G27 and T500RS with basher mods and T500RS outperform g27 by a huge gain ( at least for me ) , seems a better hardware on pedals can cut off time pretty quicky. Secondary will be the steering and shifter.

If you guys really serious, Loadcell pedals will be the final piece hardware you should looking for.

I have always believed, no matter what the subject of competition is, that the competitor is only as good as his equipment. But, to contradict my beliefs, as far as GT goes anyways, I have seen players set top times with less than top-of-the-line equipment (DFGT or less) so yea, there goes that belief right out the window . Would really like some serious thoughts/opinions on this subject now that its been brought up. Thanks guys.

Nice! Mid 05s sounds about right. At the least, have the sectors to get there.

Solid stuff. Quite true about being aggressive at Maggots. Considering how wide I often went there earlier, I simply told myself to aim as though I want to flatten it. Works rather well and worth the risk.

I've mentioned it before but I have a Driving Force Pro. My upshift paddle works when it wants to and I do not bungee cord so my pedals move if a feather landed on it. I set my feedback quite low because anything too high means it'll come right off my desk. Finally, I'm in a space where when the AC isn't working too well, the PS3 adds to the realism of a sweaty cockpit.

I think I managed well considering what i have. :D

But I will say having something a little more modern might give me a puncher's chance with the aliens out there. With my setup, the margin for error is quite narrow.

Well now, you certainly have taken my contradiction to a whole new level.  Seriously though, you do a tremendous job with such a rag tag sounding setup. Imagine though what you could do with some top-of-the-line equipment:eek: Release the hounds!!!!!!!

@outlaw4rc must been a real buzz being the national Champ.

Back in the day (pre online GT) I thought id stack up pretty good against others on GT. I found out about this comp accidently in March, And now I have realised as of my current standings in RD1 there is at least 40,000 players better then me lol. I hope to cut that down though. :-)

These differences in grip levels during different sessions are crazy. For me it is around 3-5 tenth over the whole lap difference  I checked it out also several times now.

It`s really a shame these problems appearing during a round of the Academy Time Trials đź‘Ž

PD really needs to fix this !

pirata666pirata is the new leader with a time of 2.04.580, .082 faster than CADEL-EVANS91. Just wow. He uses e-brake tecnique has well

Just scraped through last year 12th in uk with a dfgt which i bought for 20 quid clamped to a table. The chair was one of them outdoor camping chair with the beer holder in one arm :) got to say ive upgraded now and i do feel like im a little bit faster and more consistant now nothing moves when i stamp on it.

I always love the conversations about tech and think I'm quite well qualified to jump in a little :)!

- 2011: Qualified on a pad (Fastest pad worldwide I think? UK had 3 pad users very close to each other) and wheel (G25)
- 2012: Qualified on a wheel (DFGT)
- 2013: Qualified on a wheel (G27)

I honestly believe that if you want to qualify on any peripheral you can it just requires a little more hardwork or alot more on a pad depending on what you have :)! I also found that on the DFGT a softer brake actually helped a little with absolute brake precision (Although had to play with my foot at a weird angle to maximise that). But then the DFGT has weaknesses to, same with anything.

Now I have a setup which I can jump on whenever I want with dedicated TV and racing seat and yes I feel more comfortable playing as it doesn't move so it's the same everytime I go on (No tiny angle differences each time I setup) but don't feel that it helps me that much more than when I did it on the pad or my DFGT with a wheel stand and a random chair!

Just another note, I do miss the simple times of the pad occasionally haha :P!

I would gain more consistency but speed, not sure if I would. I can say that I did improve when I switched from analog sticks to wheel with GT5 but I think just about anyone would.
VBR
WOW! Congratulations!

You've come quite far since GT5 & racing with us guys in SSCS.

:) đź‘Ť
To be fair, I think a lot of the aliens have moved on from Gran Turismo. It does make me a visible benchmark for the US competition, though. Being faster than me is very good sign that you'll make Finals. :sly:

Do you quit and restart every time you turn on your PS3 and enter the first session? Or is it random sessions. This is a major factor for such a big competition.
