Biggest takeaway is how much you're abusing the front tires. That scrubs off your speed, especially on the exits. Use less steering angle and rely more on partial brake to help with rotation. It may feel slower but overall, you'll carry more momentum around the track.
Thanks for the advice. Although I know this and I don't think it will earn me lots of time, or will it?

It's really frustrating when you exit Chapel 0.9-1.0s slower than Miguel and cross the start/finish line 1.3-1.5s slower :banghead:  lol
It's frustrating anytime you're close to a ghost at that timing line only to watch it pull away all the way to Stowe.

I was running close to your times before becoming less aggressive with the fronts. Anytime they get mad, you lose acceleration which will cost you with all these straights.

I wish the game would let me load ghosts from any player, not just the top 10. I'd load ones that were a second (or half a second, depending on how close to my limit I am) faster than me, then use it until I beat it, then load another one that was a second faster than my new time.

Anyone else noticed that the grip changes from session to session?
I had a 400 km session yesterday afternoon. Final time with a really good lap 2.06,379.
In the evening i tried again and got my previous best on my 3rd lap. Some laps later i was infront of Dan Hollands 2.05,5 ghost during first half of the track.
I recognized that i was a few km/h faster than him through Copse.
At the end i managed a 2.05,624. From my split times even a low 2.05 would have been possible.
Today i wasn´t able to get near the 2.06.
If this continues the whole Academy Timetrial will be just a farce...

I noticed this myself but didn't say anything because I thought maybe it was just me, but now that you mention it, yes, I do feel a change in grip from session to session. That's kinda the reason I haven't done many sessions in the last 3 days. It just seems like luck of the draw on if you're going to get a session with good grip. Not very fun at all this way. I probably won't put much effort into these preliminary rounds. I'll save myself for when it really counts. 2 weeks each for these meaningless rounds is a bit much imo. They really should think of a better, more exciting way to do these rounds, elimination or something. Just my thoughts.

everyone thats 2.10 and under has done a fantastic job. would love to do some online with you fellas/ gals.

i cant get past my 2.09.200

i have a full rig at home and play enough i thought id be in the top 1000.

looking at the top 10 ghost laps it seems im waaaayy to cautious and easy on my tires and brakes.. perhaps ive developed that from 4 years of F1 gaming..???

i can probably get another half second off my time. but i guess ill wait for the next round to see where i stand a bit more.

well done to everyone so far though

I couldn't wait any longer to post a proper time (a sedate 2.09.05 last night) but the total count was 102,000 at that point.

I spent some time watching the top time replays last night and couldn't believe what I was seeing. Incredible skill to be so precise with the damned cones.

Exit and re-enter to the time trial helps.

Do you know what, i have also noticed this! Saturday i had a good long session (just over 300miles, thats long for me) and for a while i struggled to get below 2.06.5, but after 250miles the car all of a sudden switched on and i lept from a 2.06.6 to a 2.05.8. I eventually got down to a 2.05.5 with a pretty bad lap, my best will be 2.05.1 i think. As id been playing for some 4hours straight i decided to give it another try Sunday. Played for about 2 hours sunday and i couldnt even get within a second of my curent best time!! I only did about 150miles before getting annoyed amd giving up lol. I still cannot understand how i was over a second slower, i did very briefly think maybe its the game but quickly thought that is absoloutely ridiculas. But now others have said it it dont feel so silly!

Are you me?...

Weirdly I'm quicker using the pad than the DFGT... still can't get under 2:07.4 though.

What I've started doing under braking is not to change gear; wait until you've almost hit the apex and then change down to whatever gear you need for that corner... the rears don't spin half as much and you slow down a lot quicker. For example, as you steam into Village, just brake where you normally brake but don't change down, only downshift when you start turning into the corner. I find it a much neater and smoother way of driving. Whether it's quicker or not - I'll leave that to the top guys!

Give it a try!

Finally got myself a lap into the 7´s with a 2:07.997 (;)) with the tips and advice found here.:gtpflag:

Using DS3 and as @MOPARbarrett5 mentioned with steering sensitivity up to 7.
Didn't expect that it made quit a difference.

Must try increasing the sensitivity myself, how much time did it save you Mike? I just assumed doing this would end up scrubbing the front wheels too much.

Which gamertag(s) have people set really slow times with? would like to be able to add one to my friends list if you don't mind. Thanks.

With respect.

isnt it wiser to continue using your wheel set up? should u attend live finals there are no DS3s available. Those using them may be advantages now, but when it comes to a wheel being a requirement they will be disadvanaged...? just a thought.

i got a 2.08 just now (FINALLY) with TS500RS combo

In response to the part I have bolded. Again, I never said anything before because I didn't know if it was just me and I didn't want to look like some fool, but now that you mention that specific mileage, I too have experienced just this. In several of the regular online Seasonal TT's, I have noticed big sudden improvements in the car and also in my times, right around the 200-250 mile rage. It was weird as I'd be going along and not even coming close to my ghost, then all of a sudden...bam, big improvement, always around the same mileage, 200-250 or a touch more. I can say I have noticed this behavior in about 6-8 Seasonal TT's so far. I would only notice this obviously in Seasonals that I put a lot of miles in. Now that other people are coming out and telling their stories that match mine, I don't feel so crazy. I really don't know what to think of this though, it is kinda weird. Let the conspiracy theories begin.

Are we talking consecutive laps?

CADEL-EVANS91 - either Australian or New Zealand (I always get mixed up with their flags!)

This should be some replay.

Thanks. 👍 I just switched on my PS3 because I wanted to see the lap, which I am watching now. He is using the e-brake in almost every corner, even the higher speed corners. Looks like he has the technique mastered. 👍 I'm going to have to try it now. :P

@rono_Thomas Not consectutive laps, but in the same session.

No problem 👍 I don't remember seeing his name in the top 10 before now so it must have been a lucky lap!

I've just booked tomorrow off work so I can spend a full day on it with my DFGT - my target is 2:06 and bits but anything under that and I'll be happy with that in the first round.

@jay.s Thanks for that - that one star I'll now remember!

No, he is legit as I've seen him in the top 10 in several Seasonal TT's. I think maybe he might of even won 1 or 2. So yea, he is legitimately quick. 👍

That Aussie at the top has been there or thereabouts since the beginning so I don't think its a lucky lap

I only remember him because his PSN name is an aussie saloon car driver cyclist !!! :D

Been using the sign-out, sign-in technique to avoid the blue lines and I'm finally into the 06s but I'm not sure whether that's me using a wheel, manual gears, going over 250 on the odometer or a combination of all 3! :dopey:

By the way, I've got a feeling the odometer reads in KM as the miles are always less when I've looked at cars in the garage.

Did a 205.481 earlier but was a red lap because of slightly running wide into the lap but recorded a 2.05.6 the next lap round. That will do for me at this stage. Happy with my improvement. I wish you could see the age of the people infront of you to work out whether they are genuine competition!

Not sure but I think it's rather that when you start a newer session, you already took a pause, and you already know well the track and car the more you drive. I think these lap times you are talking about are only better because you enter the event fresher than before, but that's just my explanation for your curious lap times.

It didn't save me 0.3 sec straight away, it just made it a bit more easy for me to do more consecutive low .08 laps with the DS3.
And than with some practice and using the tips in this tread I was able to get into the .07's.
Difficult to explain it just felt easier.
