Will be a shame to see a team even I associated so much with being a DP car switching to be an LMP car team. I hope this does not signal some kind of gradual end to the Daytona Prototype class. Presumably Chip Ganassi and AER is the only remaining DP team. I can't think of many other Prototype class teams that run DP's.
AXR, Ganassi, WTR, SoD, Starworks, and RG racing all have DPs this season. That will be around 5-6 full season DP entrants with 3 LMP2 type chassis entrants for this coming season

The new C7 Corvette DP bodywork.

Doesn't surprise me at all that it all fits well, I always felt that Corvette DP was destined to have the C7 parts on it when the C7 debuted. Not to say the C6 bodywork wasn't good, but this just looks...right.

Come on, this is Mike Shank. When has green ever adorned his cars?

Somehow, I don't remember the 1st one. And perhaps I'm color blind, but that second one is green? I thought it was a dull gold.

Anyhow, I stand corrected.

I honestly prefer the C7 look over the C6 look.

I never considered, nor do I recall ever seeing the old bodywork being referred to as "C6" bodywork. While that may apply retroactively, I believe the goal of the Corvette DP bodywork was to simply use ambiguous Corvette design cues, and not directly draw from the C6 Corvette.

If anything, the old bodywork kind of hinted at the C7 Corvette.

It's good to see an update for the Vette DP. Also, the Shank car is orange as it should be. No green. I like the Dunn Tire red livery he has raced at the Glen the past 2 seasons though

I looked back, and I think that Green and Yellow Robert's Electric livery was raced at Mid Ohio 2013 only. The other green one raced the previous round at Belle Isle when the Gus bus steamrolled Memo and Pew was taken out as collateral damage

And here's a picture of the rear.

1. That's so sexy it makes Victoria's Secret models jealous.
2. That's so mean, it makes the Joker uneasy, and it's engine note shows up on the Richter scale (I'm sure)
3. Its so aggressive it can tame dragons.

It looks even better than the first. Also, Please Kaz, put this in GT6 (or 7).

PS. This car need's its own movie. It can play the hero and the villain

I still think the side profile of a DP is kinda awkward, but damn, the front and back of that thing looks sexy! All cars should have massive rear diffusers!

I'm looking forward the next gen prototypes with manufacturer specific bodykits. (Is that still set for 2017, or has it been moved back?) With this, and some of the awesome looking P2s coming out next year the grid should look a whole lot better. Pity about the giant fins though.

I would think that is exactly the wrap that the graphic picture above (from a spotter's guide) could not produce.

With the Prototype class shaping up to be LMP2 when the rules change, I've been thinking about what the companies that build and supply DPs are going to do. For example, would GM have Pratt&Miller build a full tilt LMP2 car, or would GM sit back and be an engine supplier when the rules change?

I believe Bill Riley has said his company is already looking into building an LMP2 and given this is the same constructor that has built the Intrepid GTP and the Cadillac LMP (as Riley & Scott Admittingly) and has even contributed most of the the old Tubeframe Grand-Am GT cars, they'll hardly suffer without a DP.

Dallara Likewise is a huge constructor (mostly of Open-Wheel Machinery) so they too would be fine.

I'd imagine GM would be an engine supplier, they wouldn't have Pratt & Miller do a LMP as they already have the task of handling their GTE effort as well as their new Cadillac GT3 Program.

Forgot Ganassi was BMW powered. Makes sense. Rojas had some glaring mistakes last season and bring in Joey Hand to partner Scott Pruett might get them back into Championship contention.

There's also that massive wreck that put Rojas out for a bit and he was temporarily replaced by Sage Karam.

Also, Ganassi is a Ford Team but did previously work with Joey Hand when they had the BMW engines.

The 01 should look interesting now, been a while since they had a new primery paint scheme (the last one with CompUSA before they went under). Wonder what sponsor will replace Telmex (who I thought were a sponsor bought in by Felix Sabates).

GM's thinking.

"The relationship Chevrolet's racing programs have to our auto production lines is extremely important. That relevance of racecar to showroom is a hallmark of our racing heritage," said Mark Kent, Chevrolet Director of Racing. "The success of the Corvette Daytona Prototype program is a point of pride for Chevrolet. Having the Corvette C7 DP competing for overall victories enhances the perception of the Corvette brand and allows America's sports car to compete for overall victories in North America's most important endurance events."

Joey Hand is no longer a factory BMW driver.

Telmex was there with Sabates, and with him leaving, they will also be leaving. No news yet on who will replace the primary sponsor.
