Huh, I've read a lot about another potential breakaway ESL, which would kill European football, but not much on Champions League development. Only about the leagues and their seedings; England getting four guaranteed group spots and all that tripe.

No, with the new Champions League setup.

Huh, now I see it on the Beeb football pages:

From 2018, a club's "individual coefficient" - how it has performed historically in European competition - will affect how much money it receives.

That will see established former winners being better rewarded

100% turning into a closed shop. It also states that the EPFL is worried about turning European football into a North American franchise model.

There's an excellent documentary series on BBC (possibly just BBC Scotland) called 'Scotland's Game', about the history of the Scottish national football team - interesting, nostalgic and thoroughly depressing all at the same time.

They showed footage of Scotland v Morocco at France '98, a game Scotland needed to win (and were expected to win) but Morocco won convincingly 3-0 and Scotland were out. I remember the game vividly as my sister and I watched the game at home - we put a big Scotland flag up on the window and my sister cooked some pizzas just in time for kick-off... it was possibly/likely the first game of football my sister ever watched... sadly, and amazingly, that game was also the last game Scotland played in an international tournament... 18 years ago.

So after the International break normal Footballing service will be resumed from this week, here are this weekend's league games

Saturday
Arsenal v Southampton
Bournemouth v West Brom
Burnley v Hull
Liverpool v Leicester (5.30 BT)
Man United v Man City (12.30 Sky)
Middlesbrough v Crystal Palace
Stoke v Tottenham
West Ham v Watford

Sunday
Swansea v Chelsea (4pm Sky)

Monday Night
Sunderland v Everton (8pm Sky)

All about the big Saturday games with the Old Firm derby on as well, Liverpool play their first home game with their new stand, and what a game to do it too against the Champions, just the one Sunday game but Sky have got Villa v Forest in the Championship on as well.

According to today's Mirror, that big meeting between all the big players in Europe was to do with some sort of World League, the Champions League contract runs out in five years and they were meeting to discuss a possible breakaway once the contract is up, funded by Chinese money of course it will contain all the big teams in Europe (Real, Barca, Bayern etc..) plus two Chinese teams and two MLS teams...

At this stage I almost wouldn't mind if all the 'big clubs' sod off and have their big boys club. Let all the Chinese fans and the people who don't know about football watch it, I certainly won't be.

Jonathan Legard is making a meal of football commentating... his latest comment "Watford have come back from two goals down to lead 3-0"... eh?

Celtic 5 Rangers* 1

Easy does it
It's interesting that Celtic fans are celebrating a win over Newco as though it were an Old Firm game, but dismissed a defeat to Newco as though it weren't...

I'm just happy we keep scoring goals, the team are doing really well and hopefully we can keep building on it.. After beating our 2 main title rivals earlier in the season it was important to keep rolling.

Think the general attitude is more to do with Rangers* thinking they were still a traditional rival, but I could be wrong..

Tottenham 4-0 Stoke

Kane got his first goal of the season and his 50th Prem goal along with Dele who also got one in and Son who scored two. A bit of a slow start, but overall a good one I'd say.

So the Manchester derby then, i missed it because of work but i recorded it and just seen it, the main reason we lost i feel is that we had such a bad first half which we never recovered from, it meant we were under a lot of pressure in the second half to try and get something from the game, i do feel more disappointed than gutted, fair play to City they were brilliant and deserved their win and De Bruyne was superb, we were just outclassed, Mourinho's team selection didn't, no idea what he was thinking playing Lingard, Mourinho admitted it was his fault, United just need to move.

Bravo had an interesting debut!, and Ibrahimovic's strike was pretty sweet, great game overall...

Home games at West Ham look totally void of atmosphere. That Olympic Stadium isn't very good at all.

There were clashes between rival fans in that game too, not a good start in their new home for West Ham.

Swansea picked up a very welcome point at home to Chelsea earlier, Chelsea completely dominated the first half and should have been at least three up but they let Swansea in to the game and Costa's overhead kick meant it was a point a piece, very feisty game with Costa predictably involved in a lot of the fouls, referee had a shocker.

The fact that they threw away a 2-0 lead probably didn't help. Crowds are exceptionally fickle; Wrexham beat Sutton United 1-0 on Saturday and were booed off at full-time.

Not the correct way to build a positive atmosphere.

It's the same at Celtic Park recently. We're obliterating everything in our path domestically right now but if there's a ten minute spell where we aren't offensive you start to hear the murmurs in the crowd. I'd say this generation is ridiculously expectant of clubs - which is a bit of a detriment to the atmosphere.

Some ugly scenes on Saturday have come to light on social media too during the Glasgow derby. Celtic fans on the other side of the stadium to me had blow-up dolls being 'hung' wearing Rangers* scarfs (on suicide prevention day none-the-less..) and Rangers* fans completely destroyed the toilets at Parkhead causing thousands of damage. It really does highlight just how many idiots still exist. One of the (many) reasons I'm not 🤬 if the tie was to disappear or become a non-entity like the past 4 years.

Just saw this on the Football League Show. It's in chronological order and only since 2014.

Interesting fact, since Jack Wilshire last played 90 minutes in a league game, Cristiano Ronaldo has scored 115 goals....

It's terrible when things like this happen. I wonder what the stats are per year?

Very sad to hear about this and hope his family and friends get the best of support during these tough times.

I really hope that this highlights to the smaller clubs in the importancy of advanced testing of the cardiovascular system of players to make sure they are fit enough to play. Like Lucas Silva who was only 23 and had played for Real Madrid and Marseille but at a medical prior to a move to Lisbon they fortunately they found out he had a 'cardiac anomaly' and which was caused by a heart condition, even though he can't play professionally again the medical has saved his life.

@lxmmy Lucas Silva has said that he is not retiring. There was a lot of reports that he was after he changed his Instagram bio.

That being said, I can't find any concrete source one way or the other, and he hasn't played this season.

If he failed a medical due to a 'cardiac anomaly' and the source of the problem is unknown but will most likely come from a heart condition then he will struggle to find any ground with other professional clubs as the potential risk to him is too high unless he can gain another set of results to find that the problem is only stemmed from an external/minor complication which he maybe waiting for some results before he announces his retirement.

Mark Hughes has got a misconduct charge from the FA after being sent to the stands in the Stoke-Spurs game at the weekend, pressure is on Hughes a bit after a poor start to the season and is one of the favorites in the sack race along with Pulis and Pardew.

Palace have released a statement regarding Papa Soaure, he will remain in Hospital until at least Friday after surgery on his jaw and thigh, he was involved in a horrific looking car accident on the M4 just outside London where he collided with another vehicle and smashed into the central reservation, he had to be cut from his car by emergency services (his car? well it was a Merc G-Wagon), no word on the full extent of his injuries just yet but Pardew has said that he has a broken leg.

Barcelona v Celtic on BT Sport in 10 mins from now - which I enjoy watching for free thanks to my broadband deal... BT screwed up my order and I ended up paying for stuff I was supposed to get for free and was put on the wrong tariff, so by way of apology they cut my BT Sport subscription to zero :D So I get BT Sport and Sky Sports (also legally) for a grand total of £20 a month...

I don't watch much live football, but this is a must-see. I was sorely tempted to watch it in the pub, but that would have been a silly idea on a school night, so it is great to be able to watch it in HD on my tablet while cooking a nice dinner and enjoying a cheeky bottle of wine :embarrassed:

Best of luck to Celtic - I think Barca will win comfortably though, but you never know. That said, if I were a Celtic player I'd be bricking it right now... Saurez, Neymar, Messi... one would be bad enough, but all three? :nervous:

I think Barca will win comfortably
Understatement.

Amazing stuff at Hillsborough tonight. Wednesday didn't turn up on the first half, went 2-0 down, got 1 back in the second half and then in the space of under a minute conceded a penalty and had a man sent off, Bristol missed the penalty and then also had a man sent off.

Total domination after that, equalising and then scoring a 96th minute winner...

Newcastle went allllll the way down to that London and smashed six past QPR. They seem to be firing on all cylinders now.

Yeah it was a slow start to the season for Newcastle but are now starting to look like a Premier League team in the Championship.
