4 wheels off the track and he hadn't even got to the yellow kerbs, he then does continue even further off the track to run over them.

This is what is boils down to. Can you complain about your car getting damaged driving off the track? To me, no, you're off the track, whether it's tarmac, gravel, whatever, you risk getting damaged if you're off the track.
They should put glue down, and then a moat.

I've always thought the solution was simple, white line | kerb | grass strip | tarmac. You keep the tarmac car park run off that they want for accidents but you add the strip of grass as a deterrent to going wide while driving.

Wet Q3 it is.

Kvyat's arm failed on the opposite side he hit the sausage kerb on. I won't solely blame track limits, I won't blame the kerbs, but you can't have arms failing at the drop of a hat on one of the fastest tracks on the calendar. There has to be a combination of factors that's contributing to so many failures under loads that they should be able to withstand.

It's likely the cross-load that caused that. Kvyat went off and hit the "wall", it's his own fault.

White line | Kerb | Glue | Crocodile-infested moat | Wall of burning petrol | Pile of cardboard boxes | Paparazzi | Beach | Pit lined with punji sticks | Chinese fingerpuzzle | Escaped leopards | Narnia

That's where the stewards come in. You can give the penalty an override button.

Then how will the drivers learn to keep clear from someone like maldonardo?

Drivers like him are a bio hazard.

So wet Q3, with 5 place penalties for Vettel and Rosberg. Button for a front-row start? :D

Look, it's the 21st century. We don't need sausages or walls to do the job, anymore. Both are a danger in a sport where drivers are pulling five lateral gees.

All we need is Gran Turismo penalties.

Your car triggers an infrared beam if it's all four off the track at the corner, the trackside computer interrogates your onboard computer, which then cuts your throttle for five seconds as soon as you are back on the next straight.

I guarantee people will stay on track then. No referees. No subjective rule interpretation. No additional danger or risk of red-flagging sessions.

Reduced throttle on corner exit you say? Look what happened in Spain when Rosberg went into the wrong engine mode!

Would rather see stop go's for persistently abusing track limits.

No. Cut throttle on the straights. You can even have it so the cut is exactly at the start-finish line, so that the stewards have time to interrupt the penalty if the driver is clear.

And have the car flash a warning light when it does.

Button in second. Two minutes left. If he stays there, I will be extremely amused.

This one's a nail-biter!

Hülkenberg 2nd, Button 3rd (since Rosberg and Vettel both get +5) :dopey:
If Hülkenberg should be getting a penalty for possible speeding under yellow flag Button would be starting as 2nd.

Button pretty good with the timing there.

But Nico Hulkenberg is going to be sitting pretty on that front row.

Good day for Lewis... but I'm wondering how things would have turned out if Nico hadn't had that wreck in practice.

As it is, though, good chance for Lewis to claw back some points versus Nico. Makes the title race more interesting.

Hamilton freely admits that it isn't his best circuit. Mercedes are starting on ultra-softs while Ferrari and Red Bull are starting on supers, and it was probably a little demoralising to see Rosberg put out the fastest lap time of the weekend with a car that had just had a new back end put on.
