2016 Formula 1 Japanese Grand PrixFormula 1

I bet Lewis really wants to smash that Champagne bottle over Max's head...

Oh digital flags, no post race in car press conference though.

Lewis deserves kudos for his fightback, in for a mountain to climb though.

I feel like FOM have an ulterior motive in broadcasting all these messages, they can't think fans want to hear them.
We saw this in Azerbaijan - both Rosberg and Hamilton were having engine issues, but we only heard about Hamilton's because it meant more drama in the narrative. I don't know what the ulterior motive on FOM's part might be, though.

I wish someone else would build a figure of 8 circuit so we didn't have to be reminded that Suzuka is the only one a dozen times every year.
I'd like another for the sake of variety. Half a figure-eight circuit is clockwise; the other half anti-clockwise. One direction of corner dominates on each configuration, which places different demands on the tyres.

for the 6th time this season MAN OF THE RACE. We have a (future) champ!
Altough my personal view is that Lewis, altough the bad start, deserved it much more

Because Rosberg fixed his problem quickly, while Hamilton struggled.

...and now the Sky Sports poop-show begins. Time to turn off.

As for Max/Ham

I don't see how you can penalise him, by the rulebook there is nothing wrong there, but it's still highly questionable the way he waits to make his defensive moves. The veteran drivers don't like it.

Shame how much potential was not achieved. Vettel without a podium, and HAAS without points. Decent race though, but thats Japan for you. Always a thriller.

Max driver of the day, for what exactly?

On a light side note:

How did Gutierrez finish 20th? Is he that bad of a driver to lose 10 positions or was there a problem?

I don't see how you can give DOTD to any driver that makes a complete hash of the most crucial part of the race. Yes he made up places but it was his own doing, he ultimately started 2nd and finished 3rd in the best car on the grid. That isn't a DOTD worthy performance, IMO.

Rosberg on the other hand handled the pressure of the start and drove perfectly the rest of the race. It sucked in the sense that we were yet again denied a race between them but Rosberg, on the whole, clearly had the better drive.

PS I didn't notice but no retirements in that race, the seventh time it has happened, fourth in this new hybrid era. Impressive.

@Samus put it perfectly why he doesn't deserve it. You doing an impressive job digging yourself out of a hole doesn't change the fact you put yourself there to begin with.

Well yes, you could look at it like that. And yes, it was his own doing. Best car on the grid it may be, but that doesn't mean that it's not prone to failure, which I imagine could actually affect confidence. When confidence is affected, it's easy to make mistakes.. I really do think he did a sterling job of a recovery and he fought to the end.

Nico's drive was brilliant. A very masterful drive indeed, but not quite worthy of DOTD (IMHO).

To be fair, Mercedes has had issues with the clutch this whole season. That said, I was expecting Hamilton to have a Hockenheim Rosberg type of start with tons of wheelspin.

And of course, I jinxed HAAS by thinking both could score points today. Still mystified on why Ferrari let Vettel out there so long.
