He is a promising talent, but was pretty much out ridden in any 3 way battle with Salom and Rins last year. That he lucked into the title is being by virtue of being consistent, but his race craft was lacking last year.

Moto2 this year will be a very interesting test for him.
Didnt put a foot wrong all season in a bike that wasn't the official KTM and in theory was the least "powerful" KTM team with the least resources. He also did have a weak team mate who didnt help him (that girl) He has been a race winner for all 3 years he's been riding, unlike the other two, and with three different bikes. Salom will be exposed next year having him as a team mate.

Ana had a weaker bike than Maverick, I think for the last couple of races she got Maverick's bike and she looked much better, she's still only 16 to. I think Rins is more likely to be an alien in the top tier than Maverick.

This is true, essentially Ana ran the KTM under the Spanish National Championship (CEV) class rules with a couple of added extras. She put in some stonking performances nevertheless.

Yeah sure... However, its understandable I think...
Pretty sure the first time I heard it was when he first stepped astride a 125cc bike a few years ago.
And he didnt deceive did he?

Maverick Viñales is the next big thing after Marquez: You heard it here first :D Already setting top times in Moto2 class practices after winning the Moto3 class championship last season. This kid is winning races since his very first days.

Vinales is Ok, but my money is squarely on Nagakami.

This is the second time in two years that riders have been hospitalised after testing crashes here, is it really that safe?
It is one of the best facilities in the country. From the looks of things, they went down on the approach to Lukey Heights, which is one of the fastest parts of the circuit. The track climbs to its highest point, and you can get buffeted by a crosswind coming off Bass Strait that can easily catch you unawares.

Marc Marquez has broken his fibula in a training accident, will be out for 3-4 weeks, so will probably miss all the remaining tests to be back in time for Qatar.

No such thing as safe in bike racing. You fall off, it hurts. End of.

A better question would be is there anything specific about Phillip Island that needs addressing?, if so what?, if not then it's just a case of bad luck.

I was referring to the circuit itself, as opposed to motorcycle racing in general. We know that the circuit had a new surface laid at the end of 2012 which allows riders to go harder and faster, but I'm wondering if it was a mistake. For sure, it should produce far better racing but when safety is paramount, it does make you think.

Well they had the issues with the tyres getting too hot resulting in the mid race bike swaps last season. Somethings up with the track.

The problem was it was a brand new surface. It needs to be run in a bit to get some rubber on it. I remember that it was resurfaced in about 1999 and Troy Corser held the wsbk lap record for about 8 years afterwards, it's a fast circuit!

Is it safe to bring up SBK here on this op since we are bike spectators or is there a site for it, blah, blah?. Sadly they are the only moto guys to take track at this present time except for American Supercross, and I'm appalled at the very shorten SBK race calender. 👎 Not even CotA what happen here???

Seems like there are some tyre controversies brewing in MotoGP, with the new Bridgestone working better with the Honda's and not working with the Yamaha's:

Isn't that ironic? Honda state that they will leave if a control ECU is put into place, and suddenly the competitors bikes are struggling. Maybe I'm just being cynical, then again maybe not.

It appears as if Nicky Hayden is frustrated at the pace of the Open class Honda, even with the softer tyre that they have the option to run. It's reportedly 18 km/h (11 mph) down on the pace of the slowest Factory bike, so I can understand his anger.

Lastly it would appear that Aleix Espargaro could be a serious threat to the front runners this season, he has again been in the Top 4 all week! Also, Ducati tested their version of the Open class GP14 and were only +0.4 seconds behind their quickest Factory bike time. Seems like a no brainer for the Italian squad.

Jorge didn't even want to come in front of the camera to give comments on the day bacause of his frustration on the new tyre.

I saw Colin Edwards' interview as well and just loved what he said at the end. Quote: "we're spending millions of dollars building a bike around a tyre. I remember when it used to be different"

Race1 of WSBK @ YouTube right now, but race 2 hasn't surfaced yet or at least as much as I searched for?,. Nothing in HD either but also I haven't went MADD looking for the tape yet either.

When Dorna finds it, it'll get blocked/deleted from Youtube. I speak from experience. Had my ability to upload 15min+ vids taken away from me for about a year because I uploaded some, at that time, recent MotoGP races.

Hmmm, thanks for that note. I'm a YouTube hunter and I specialize in top teir racing events. Yea F1 & MotoGp I forget about it, except some 5 min highlights & facts and such. But all last year I was able to get the full season of WSBK in Euro HD full race versions. I really hope they didn't put the clamp down, because America already has rid itself of over seas racing except F1 & MotoGp. It's appalling to me but I get the politic about. (Can't stand Speed to Fox Sports conversion, the website was even worse) Especially so since we can only get a very small few good Americans over seas that can compete but I get that politic too. "The Ben Spies Case" was the most epic I've experienced so far, I'm 33yrs old btw,. Falling off subject here but I will air tapes on the op whenever I can.

Was reading Motorsports News this morning like any good man or woman these days , and it dawned on me Nico Hulk (F1) & Alex Esp (MGP) have a lot in common when it come to good talent without Factory rides yet. Hmmm?,. again?,.
