I use a wifi 4g modem ...it just uses a sim card you turn it on and can run up to 5 devices off it its plugged straight into terminal port 2 at the front where you plug a controller in . it is connected through mini usb lead
Well, i can only say that, we have Virgin media fibre optic cable coming into our house.
It runs to the router, which is only about 6 feet from the psn.
Its something like 100mbs download and 30mbs upload, so it is pretty fast, and way faster than GT6 needs.
However when i first started playing Gt6 3 years ago, on wifi, i kept getting dc'd.
Very annoying as with other online games it seemed fine.
I am no expert on all this, but i contacted my service provider, and they told me that it is because Gt6 is not run like many other online games.
Many games use a central server that all the players join.
Gt6 it seems is peer to peer, and it seems that everyone connects to the race in a different way.
Unlike server controlled games, peer to peer requires a constant stream of data, and if that is interrupted even for a very very short time, it either causes bad lag spikes or disconnects you from the peer to peer, and from the game.
The bad lag may not direct affect you as a driver, but as the data is interrupted, if it does not dc you, it then catches back up and others see your car appearing all over the place as the data tries to catch up.
Anyway, i brought an Ethernet cable and plugged it directly from my router the the ps3, and then went to the ps3 settings and just ran the wired connection instead of the WiFi connection.
I immediately had a better connection and almost never had any dc's.
Even though i had a fast WiFi connection before, i have been informed that many things affect the connection speed.
Obviously anyone else connect to the system downloads something, all there are 5 of us in the house, all with smartphones that are continuously downloading bits of data, we have 3 computers on the WiFi.
Also i used to get bad lag when my wife used the microwave, and i am told that even things like washing machine starting up causes some sort of electrical distortion, and then there neighbors that also have WiFi that all can mess up the airwaves that WiFi uses.
Often people starting up a laptop, as most laptops go into update mode as soon as they are turned on, and this often is done without anyone realising, but that can cause dcs and bad lag.
Even wired connections still have data interruptions, but never as bad as WIFI.
It all sounds a bit much to me, but i know a mate of mine who plays gt6 and uses WiFi and has never had any problems at all, however he lives in a rural location and his nearest neighbor is 1/2 mile away, he has no kids with mobile phones and no wife that uses the electrical appliances.
So it does seem that many things do affect the WiFi for sure, so having a wired connection to the router ensures the data does not get interrupted by all these outside forces.
Often i have found that with a room full of god connections has no problems at all.
I bad connection comes into the room and everyone data is affected, as they all need your data for the driving to be smooth for everyone.
So, can i ask, do you have a wire that comes into the house that carries the internet ?
