But how? GTE-Am is just a customer class anyways. It works in IMSA to have GTE and GT3 doesn't it? The Am class has only 5 cars next year. 5. Pro has 9 potentially, and at Le Mans 13. Making Am teams buy factory rated cars is a bit foolish isn't it? GTE is GT1 and GT3 is GT2 (especially with the new regs), it'd actually lead to some class diversity for the first time in years.
Because then the Pro teams will ask why they are developing cars just for their own use, when Am's are buying the same or similar cars to race at a fraction of the costs. Those teams that also wish or require the sale of their machinery would be hindered (at the moment, only Ferrari I think, maybe Porsche in the future).
Eventually, the GTE class in ELMS would also go, especially if WEC GT manufacturers pull out due to the costs they're spending compared to an AM team. Which would then likely put pressure on IMSA's GTLM class, as manufacturers wonder why they're developing cars for a single series, when they could just develop and race the cars they race internationally.
Then 10 years from now, GT3 gets replaced with GT4, and so on and so forth. It's an endless, vicious cycle in GT racing.
