For qualifying? I totally missed it, was watching stuff on YouTube and spaced that it was on.

No, the race, but apparently the countdown clock is based on the start of one of the support events. False alarm.

That was known from the camera shots yesterday. Fabian has a dive up the inside and then ran wide into Reynolds before they locked wheels and both ran off.

I didn't see it when I watched the race myself yesterday, I thought he got loose on his own prior to passing Reynolds since he was moving slower to Fabian's right side. I thought he just touched off into the grass crossing over and lost it, which wouldn't be surprising with all the near offs and offs happening toward the end of the race.

250km races, Safety Car(s), weather(could be 45 degrees or light rain, like it is here now), set up, strategy, tyre failures. All the unknowns.the #17 just needs to be in front all weekend.

The outfit is currently in the process of selling cars for the first time since American giant Team Penske’s buy-in at Dick Johnson Racing three years ago.

Although neither party will currently confirm the plan, two of its current spare FG X Falcons are expected to go to fellow Queensland-based team Matt Stone Racing for 2018.

MSR currently runs two ex-Triple Eight VF Commodores in the Dunlop Super2 Series that are owned by businessman Jason Gomersall.

The squad is still shopping for a Racing Entitlements Contract to step up to the main series next year with lead driver Todd Hazelwood, who is currently fighting for the Super2 title.

If successful in sourcing a REC, MSR would field entries in both series, retaining a Super2 involvement alongside a main game effort.

“At this stage my priority is to find a REC, so that’s where our focus is,” Gomersall told Supercars.com when asked of the Penske Fords.

“Penske is just down the road [from MSR's Yatala base], so there have been conversations about all sorts of things, but nothing more substantial than that.

“I’ve heard they’ve got cars for sale, but we’ve got to find a REC first.”

Yes please

I'd like Aaron Noonan to get a bigger role. And they better not bring back Matt White.

Larkham is great and I’ve always liked Noonan. It almost seemed like he was lead commentator at 7 at one stage but then was hardly used not long after. Was never sure if that was his choice or Channel 7. I quite like Chad Neylon as well. He does a great job with the supports and has great general knowledge of Motorsport.

The circuit is coming together. If the weather is as beautiful as it's been in the afternoon, it'll be fantastic.

Turn 1 pedestrian bridge is up. Barriers/catch fencing and tyre bundles are set along Shortland Esplanade(the downhill still closed though). They've put up temporary walls behind the fencing at Watt St. Either as soundeadning or to block views of the track.
Skaife's "Heroes Corner"(Horseshoe Beach hairpin), is completed and grandstands done. That run on Nobby's Road, from Scott St to Horseshoe Beach, is phenomenal. There's a kink, but they'll just straightline that. Also, with the curvature, it's similar to the tunnel at Monaco with the downhill to the chicane.
The pit building is still under construction. Looks like all columns and joists are done.

Will the crowds be as big as Clipsal(nearly 250k over 4 days) or Bathurst(200k+ over 4 days)? I don't know. But when I went to the Family Day in April, VASC estimated about 10,000 people. Which, we were in the Turn 1 section of the park. It'll be crazy if each day sees 50k people.

I think attendance numbers could be pretty good. The Central Coast is absolutely the right demographic and Newcastle is a beautiful part of the country (I love Nelson Bay, a bit further north of Newcastle) so there’s good reason for people all over the country to visit.

Another good spot, will be where the Disney/Pixar Cars family play area is. Located in the park next to Newcastle beach. So, right at the bottom of Shortland Esplanade. Access to the beach is via an underpass. Should be awesome as the cars pass over.
I used to live in Nelson Bay. Beautiful place.
Newcastle will have to embrace being a tourist city. New hotels are going up soon and the city has been rebuilding for the past few years.
