As far as coincidences and conspiracy theories go, the Group A draw for Russia definitely smells like something cooked up, but the draw was done fairly, and it was pure coincidence that Russia vs Saudi Arabia was game 1, and all we can do is sit back and laugh really.

ITV's World Cup 'Czar' style studio mixed with a fire and lava theme is a bit much! The fact it's CGI also makes it look kinda bizarre.

I haven't seen any coverage yet but i hope the BBC aren't doing what they did for (I think it was) the Sochi games and substituting Cyrillic letters into words in their animations. If I see "я", "и" or "д"; I read them the way they sound. Not as "r", "n" or "a".

I got the feeling they were trying to be, for want of a better word, exotic and embrace the culture of the host country. To me, it came across as insulting to the host nation and the audience who were presumed to be ignorant.

It was probably just me. Sorry.

Bit of insight on Spain's predicament.

-On May, Spain renews Lopetegui until 2020.
-Zidane leaves Real Madrid.
-Real Madrid announces they hired Lopetegui, so he leaves the spanish squad after the world cup. Real Madrid would pay a 2 million fee so Lopetegui can break his contract with Spain.
-RFEF (spanish football federation) says they were aware of the negotiations and in permanent contact with Real Madrid.
-Minutes later, they change that notice they published on the RFEF page. They eliminate the quote that says they were aware of Lopetegui's negotiations.
-Rubiales, RFEF president, consults the spanish media about shacking or not Lopetegui. Media consul Rubiales to fire Lopetegui (confirmed by Rubiales).
-The team tries to convince Rubiales to not shack Lopetegui. This is for sure (confirmed by Rubiales), but I dont know or even nobody knows exactly which players talked to Rubiales. Apparently the captains (Ramos, Piqué, Iniesta and other players with a strong position on the team like Busquets or Silva).
-Hierro (new manager, member of RFEF) and Lopetegui are recorded having a long talk in the training pitch.
-Rubiales says the next day he was aware of Lopetegui's situation 5 minutes before Real Madrid announced it and he announces Lopetegui is fired.
-RFEF wont get the 2 million Real Madrid was going to pay. Instead, RFEF will have to pay 8 millions or so to Lopetegui (his salary until the end of the contract on 2020).

Those were the facts.

My opinion? Lopetegui was a bit egoistic. But having in mind Real Madrid very rarely knocks your door twice and that this kind of situations (national team managers negotiating contracts with clubs while playing a big tournament) have 0 negative effect on the team (Aragones/Spain/Euro2008, VanGaal/Holland/WorldCup2014), he didnt have another option. I would have done the same thing.

Real Madrid cared only about their interests. Apparently they tried to not announce it until the end of the world cup (cant confirm that). But the information was leaked. Either way, apparently they tried to minimize the damage. Either way, they were egoistic too, but might not be something too bad having in mind what I said of this not being something negative for the team.

Rubiales, SBH (Stupid Bald Head) from now on, recently successor of Villar (ridiculously corrupted); is apparently trying to clear up the RFEF image and make distances with Villar's corrupted period. He saved last week 2 millions to the RFEF by cancelling a luxury trip Villar prepared (RFEF money comes from taxes we all pay).

SBH made a lot of noise with that decision. Well, now RFEF is going to loose 2 (fee Madrid was going to pay for Lopetegui) + 8 (Lopetegui's contract until 2020) millions because of his decision with Lopetegui.

The team is broken (some media says Ramos almost punches SBH) and without the manager that worked on the team for the last two years right before the world cup.

Why SBH did what he did? He says what Lopetegui and Real Madrid did was unacceptable. In reality, this seems like a rage of jealousy and that he is trying to make his position stronger and, as a secondary effect, improve his relationship with the spanish media.

I see this matter very clearly: DONT SACK HIM YOU BLITHERING IDIOT. You are going to condemn the team on the world cup. Even if Real Madrid and Lopetegui did very bad, think of the team. Think of the benefit of everybody, not on your personal pride, you SBH.

If KSA had spend less time drifting they might have stood half a chance in that game.
Drifting on the pitch or the roads? If the latter then I would say that Saudi's are much more into footballs than cars. Despite bring rrally into football, we suck at everything in this world. Like I said before, Arabian teams are a joke. The confused mid and attackers. The awful Defenders. That goal keeper with that chubby belly. We as Arabs are bound to failures in life.
I see meme being made with this.

The yesterday match was a joke, I expected it to be 3 - 0 for Russia but not 5 - 0. Maybe I was too optimistic but still. Great Job Russia.

I'm don't have a huge knowledge of football tho.

Friday afternoon off from work. Perfect to enjoy the day's football.

I am very intrigued for Spain-Portugal.

He turned up at Liverpool and became the league's top scorer. Helped by Klopp's attacking play style, he played extremely well and doesn't seem to have the ego of other world class players.
Sorry, I haven't watch football in the recent years sadly. I feel like getting into it would be hard but I will try.

I was on a cruise in Alaska in 2014 during the World Cup. I highly recommend Alaska and also being on vacation during the World Cup. For example, in 2014 I was at the bar watching the games at 8 AM. Now I'm using my phone under my desk at work. :(

Offtopic Remind me why Mohanmed Salah became popular in last one or two years?

Not only that but he broke the record for the most goals (32) in a 38-game EPL season - not to mention that he also made it to the World Judo final versus Sergio Ramos as well.

Egypt look better going forward, but Uruguay look more likely to score. This is probably the recipe for a 0-0 unless Egypt think they can win it and bring Salah on.

Cheeky 90th minute winner from Salah would do nicely.

Godin is close to telling Suarez to swap positions with him. He seems so frustrated with the pathetic Uruguayan attack.
