Bit of insight on Spain's predicament.
-On May, Spain renews Lopetegui until 2020.
-Zidane leaves Real Madrid.
-Real Madrid announces they hired Lopetegui, so he leaves the spanish squad after the world cup. Real Madrid would pay a 2 million fee so Lopetegui can break his contract with Spain.
-RFEF (spanish football federation) says they were aware of the negotiations and in permanent contact with Real Madrid.
-Minutes later, they change that notice they published on the RFEF page. They eliminate the quote that says they were aware of Lopetegui's negotiations.
-Rubiales, RFEF president, consults the spanish media about shacking or not Lopetegui. Media consul Rubiales to fire Lopetegui (confirmed by Rubiales).
-The team tries to convince Rubiales to not shack Lopetegui. This is for sure (confirmed by Rubiales), but I dont know or even nobody knows exactly which players talked to Rubiales. Apparently the captains (Ramos, Piqué, Iniesta and other players with a strong position on the team like Busquets or Silva).
-Hierro (new manager, member of RFEF) and Lopetegui are recorded having a long talk in the training pitch.
-Rubiales says the next day he was aware of Lopetegui's situation 5 minutes before Real Madrid announced it and he announces Lopetegui is fired.
-RFEF wont get the 2 million Real Madrid was going to pay. Instead, RFEF will have to pay 8 millions or so to Lopetegui (his salary until the end of the contract on 2020).
Those were the facts.
My opinion? Lopetegui was a bit egoistic. But having in mind Real Madrid very rarely knocks your door twice and that this kind of situations (national team managers negotiating contracts with clubs while playing a big tournament) have 0 negative effect on the team (Aragones/Spain/Euro2008, VanGaal/Holland/WorldCup2014), he didnt have another option. I would have done the same thing.
Real Madrid cared only about their interests. Apparently they tried to not announce it until the end of the world cup (cant confirm that). But the information was leaked. Either way, apparently they tried to minimize the damage. Either way, they were egoistic too, but might not be something too bad having in mind what I said of this not being something negative for the team.
Rubiales, SBH (Stupid Bald Head) from now on, recently successor of Villar (ridiculously corrupted); is apparently trying to clear up the RFEF image and make distances with Villar's corrupted period. He saved last week 2 millions to the RFEF by cancelling a luxury trip Villar prepared (RFEF money comes from taxes we all pay).
SBH made a lot of noise with that decision. Well, now RFEF is going to loose 2 (fee Madrid was going to pay for Lopetegui) + 8 (Lopetegui's contract until 2020) millions because of his decision with Lopetegui.
The team is broken (some media says Ramos almost punches SBH) and without the manager that worked on the team for the last two years right before the world cup.
Why SBH did what he did? He says what Lopetegui and Real Madrid did was unacceptable. In reality, this seems like a rage of jealousy and that he is trying to make his position stronger and, as a secondary effect, improve his relationship with the spanish media.
I see this matter very clearly: DONT SACK HIM YOU BLITHERING IDIOT. You are going to condemn the team on the world cup. Even if Real Madrid and Lopetegui did very bad, think of the team. Think of the benefit of everybody, not on your personal pride, you SBH.
