I got home last night and watched some of the reaction on Sky and other places and they were basically saying that when fans are allowed back the owners of these 6 clubs had better not show up to the grounds. Is it really that bad that these owners are essentially exiled away from their own stadiums and teams?

Both Milan clubs, Juventus and Atletico Madrid pulled out earlier today leaving Real Madrid and Barcelona left, so it'll be El Clasico every week...good luck with that lads!

Liverpool owner John Henry put out a 2 minute video apologising which people are liking to a hostage video and in the last few minutes Joel Glazer issued an open letter on United's website apologising.

They are of course free to go anywhere they want, particularly if they own the place, but football can, let's see, be rowdy boisterous, ;) and they should know that they will not get a good reception anywhere near the clubs they own after this. Not sure I would go anywhere where 50k+ people were giving me all kinds of abuse from the minute I walked into a place. This episode has shown though that they lack good judgement, so some may fly in at some point to take in a match. ;)

Gary Neville recounted a story of an owner going to a game and asking which colour of shirt was 'our' team. He didn't name the owner, but I doubt they will miss not being able to take in a game. ;)

It was Kavel Solehkol of Sky Sports News who told the story of the owner not knowing which colour of the shirt was his team not Gary Neville.

Spurs-Southampton currently 0-0, Ryan Mason's first game in interim charge of Spurs, more protests outside the ground, Daniel Levy is there watching the game, Villa v City on later.

Spurs 2-1 Southampton
Villa 1-2 City

Both Spurs and City come from behind to win their games, Ings gave Southampton a first half lead as Spurs had a lack-lustre first half, Bale equalised in the second half before a late penalty from Son got Spurs and new boss Mason the win.

John McGinn gave Villa the lead after just 20 seconds but it didn't take City long to pull it back, Foden and Rodri with first half goals before John Stones was sent off for a bad challenge on Ramsey following a VAR check, Matty Cash got sent off for Villa in the second half after two quick yellows.

City need just eight points from their remaining five games to win the title.

Uncle Flo really comes off unhinged. Makes me wonder how these talks were conducted at all and why anyone would jump in so suddenly without a basic sporting plan in place.

The reason teams lose money if that they pay large transfer fees, and they pay large wages. About a month or so ago I was watching TV and it was mentioned that Antoine Griezmann was getting something like £400k+ a week at Barcelona, now Griezmann is a good player, but was anyone else willing to pay him that amount of money! There should be no need for Barca, or Real Madrid, to offer wages way more than anyone else is willing to pay. If anything, they could pay slightly less, though still huge amounts, and rely on their 'appeal' to get the player to sign for them. Everyone wants to play for Barca or Real don't they! ;)

Now it could be that by offering players so much more than anyone else, it is a deterrent to other teams to sign that player, as along with a large transfer fee, the potential buyer would need to match, or increase the wages the player is already getting paid to entice them to move, pricing many teams out of thinking of a deal. Not many would move for less money, Gareth Bale is evidence of that. And if that is what they are doing, don't be crying that you are racking up debt, you chose to pay the large transfer fees, and the obscene wages.

So if they are paying way over the top wages, added to the massive transfer fees, and going into debt, whilst being one of the most popular, and highest earning clubs in the world, you only have yourself to blame. You don't try and disrupt the whole of European football, and potentially the fortunes of national teams around the World, to try and fix the self inflicted debt.

What exactly do they mean by 'does not work'?

What they really mean is that their own behaviour is unsustainable, and they either scale it back, go bust or throw their toys out the pram and demand even more money.

They need to get real and realise that their bubble has burst, but instead they want to patch it up and inflate it even more. But what do they think is going to happen in a few year's time when the even bigger bubble bursts?

If anything, the ESL model is the reverse of what needs to happen.

That’s what Juventus pay for Aaron Ramsay weekly. I’m not kidding

 I think that is slightly more understandable because I think Ramsey went for free on a Bosman, and so the money saved in transfer fees enables the player negotiate a better deal. Even though that is still mental. Not sure how many were queuing up to pay him that much though. ;) I remember Liverpool being linked, but they would never pay that much. At that time at least.

Antoine Griezmann supposedly went for €120m, though it was supposed to be a €200m buyout fee, but Barcelona somehow got away with paying less after Atletico's appeal. And it says he actually took a pay cut to go to Barca. But the numbers in the article I read were not as much as was mentioned in the TV broadcast I saw. I doubt a commentator is going to make such a mistake in getting the figure so wrong in a live broadcast.

Dead Woodward is an ex JP Morgan banker. You'll never convince me he was some innocent bystander.

I would love to see one of those 12 go belly up as a warning to the others with their ridiculous spending.

"We're sick of rubbish Champions League games and there being a gulf in quality and finance between clubs."

Okay, give the smaller clubs more money so they can be more competitive then. Yeah, didn't think so...

As for my actual opinion on statements like this, nothing bores me more than games between so-called "big boys". Aren't they just so boring these days or is it just me? Perez also said, without any irony, that the Champions League is only interesting from the quarter-finals onwards. Herein, he has completely missed the point that fans don't want crappy group stages or leagues; a quarter-final game is infinitely more interesting and exciting because it's a god damned knockout game.

Everybody staying in and continuously playing each other is neither special nor interesting. Hypothetical: Barcelona are 50 points ahead of FC Dudelange in the league table. Dudelange win 1-0. It's nothing to Barcelona, it barely affects Dudelange and the defecit between the two teams is reduced to 47 points. They play each other again soon anyway. Yawn.

But when that's a knockout game? The one time that Barcelona slip up and Dudelange sneak it, knocking Barcelona out, is all the more epic and significant.

There were protesters at Man United's Carrington training ground this morning, around 20 of them somehow managed to make their way onto the main pitch where the first team train as well, Solskjaer, Carrick, Fletcher and Nemanja Matic all talked to them to calm them down and police were called, crowd soon dispersed.

So far in the fall out of this Arsenal seem to be the most apologetic, Kroenke apologised to Arsenal manager and staff and players, Arsenal chief exec rang all 14 PL clubs not involved in the ESL to apologise and Kroenke's son says his fathers company will cover all costs in relation to leaving the ESL.

Ryan Giggs with three charges, actual bodily harm, common assault and coercive and controlling behaviour. Sounds like he will end up in prison.

Rob Page to take charge of Wales at the Euros this summer, he has been in charge since Giggs arrest.

Rob Page has been seamless in his role as caretaker, highlighted by Wales B drawing against Mexico A and beating Czechia 1-0 in a crucial WCQ. He has definitely put himself in pole position to officially take charge.

I don't have anything to say about Ryan Giggs for the time being. This has been ominously looming for quite some time.

Didn't Giggs bang his sister-in-law on the side for years, leading to an interesting recent relationship with his brother?

Yes. Yes he did.

Ryan Giggs the man casts such a huge, ugly shadow on Ryan Giggs the footballer.

Arsenal 0-1 Everton, Leno own goal in the second half, pretty terrible game. The protest outside the ground before hand was pretty good.

Everton a few points of fourth place but everyone else still to play this weekend.

Liverpool 1-1 Newcastle
West Ham 0-1 Chelsea
Sheff Utd 1-0 Brighton

Not too much excitement from those games, Liverpool quite wasteful in attack and squandered several great chances, Salah scored after three minutes but Liverpool scored have scored like eight or something, Newcastle had some good chances of their own and the equaliser came in the 95th minute from sub Joe Willock, they had a goal ruled out from Wilson for handball just before that.

Werner got the only goal of the game for Chelsea and Balbuena was sent off for West Ham which has caused some controversy but it looked like a red to me IMO, McGoldrick with United's goal in a rare win for them, Brighton were pretty wasteful in attack too.

Man United fans protested outside Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon, it was good to see it actually and there were a lot of people there, don't quite agree with the burning of the American flag mind!

Every major Footballing authority will be taking part in a social media boycott over next weekend 'in response to ongoing and sustained discriminatory abuse received online'. The FA, Premier League, EFL, FA WSL, PFA, LMA, PGMOL, Kick it Out and FSA unite from the boycott from 3pm Friday until 11.59pm on Monday May 3rd. Several clubs have also said they will take part in the boycott.

Wolves 0-4 Burnley
Leeds 0-0 Man United
Man City 1-0 Spurs

Chris Wood first half hat-trick for Burnley in a surprise big away win for them, Westwood with the other goal late on.

Less said about the Leeds-United game the better, awful game.

City have won the League Cup for a fourth year in a row, Laporte with the only goal on 83 minutes and it was a deserved win as City dominated most of the game.

Villa v West Brom to come tonight.
