Could motorsports exist as a broadcast only thing for an extended period of time? Maybe not NASCAR as it is now, but overall?
Something on a smaller scale, like stadium racing, might be able to. But motorsports is a spectator's sport first and foremost, and without the spectators it's hard to justify going through with it for very long.

Unless it gets great ratings (it MIGHT because there is almost nothing competing with it), I can't see the season go much past Homestead. The interesting thing is that the states that have the most restrictive public gathering rules are either not raced at (Washington), or will not be raced at until either the situation is solved or the season is already canceled (Sonoma in June, Watkins Glen in August). That being said, the race could still be called tomorrow or Saturday (and add the fact that there will be rain in the forecast for Sunday).

Rumoured that the Cup race will be tomorrow at 2, they already moved the truck race to tonight.

I don’t think they’ll cancel the season. The Olympics are unlikely to happen so they have 2 weeks in the summer to reschedule some postponed races (I don’t think Homestead or Texas will happen)

If any entities can, it would be NASCAR and F1 (and maybe IndyCar). They have massive TV contracts, and NASCAR has the advantages of owning half the venues it runs. At those tracks, they could arguably get around most versions of bans on large gatherings by declaring them "worksites".

What I worry about are the smaller series that depend on track revenue to survive.

Atlanta and Homestead are both postponed.

No NASCAR, Indycar or F1 for the foreseeable future. Like many, I WAS excited for this weekend. Now, not so much...:indiff:

They said they will try to make up these races, but unless they plan to run them during the week, holidays, the Olympics, or apocryphally between Thanksgiving and Christmas (which in the case of ATL, unless you guys get a hot fall/winter, you're screwed) I think it would be wise to write them off completely and focus on maintaining some semblance of a season.

I was gonna suggest maybe those two could replace a second race from another track, like Texas, but unless those are the only two events that get put aside, it's possible a fifth of the season could be gone.

Well, some of us have been asking for a shorter season...guess this is how we get it.

Both the races I watched (that one and THE-RACE’s open wheel race this morning) were pretty good, but I wish they’d take advantage of the digital realm a bit more and do something that could never happen in the real world. Let’s see NASCAR drivers at Mount Panorama or Verstappen racing at Eldora.

The season, based on the CDC recommendation, will take out all races up to the All-Star Race. That includes Bristol, Martinsville, Talladega, Dover, Richmond and Texas. Unless there is an earlier clear up, I cannot imagine any race occurring before Richmond (so Bristol and Texas will likely be ppd/canceled).

All of those tracks have a date in the fall. Let's see more doubleheaders, or some Wednesday night races, if their fall date is in the chase.

At this point they should just accept the fact this season is FUBAR and either award a champion based on whatever races they can fit in after this blows over (as in the ones they are able to run on the originally scheduled date) or just run the rest of the season as exhibitions. Putting teams under extreme stress seems counter-productive, especially with the short off-season they have.

This is pretty much my opinion when it comes to pretty much every racing series.

This may sound odd, especially because I never would have considered it during his domination, but I actually feel kind of bad for Jimmie Johnson. Dude is in his final season, and who knows if he'll get a proper sendoff with all the uncertainty.

Since IIRC Ryan Blaney is leading the points, I can see him being awarded the 2020 championship if the season can be restarted. Otherwise, this is gonna be a "lost season" that we will remember for ages.

Harvick is the current points leader and Logano like 1 point back. That DNF was pretty costly for Blaney.

*edit* corrected Logano and Harvick order.

36 race season should be abandoned as a goal. Right now I'd even say a 20 to 25 race season is realistic and should be focused upon.
