That still goes 90% (ish, nobody's sure, but 10% is about the industry level) to Umbro, who supply the lettering. £1.5m isn't to be sniffed at, but it's not a lot within the broad terms of the transfer deal.

The real benefit is if they sell enough extra shirts to make Umbro happy. That reported £75m/year apparently depends on total shirt sales, and they were down last year.

So... six shirts then?*

At actual prices that's something like 350,000, I think. Not a bad effort considering they didn't quite sell 2m in FY2020 according to reports. About one in six shirts sold are Ronaldo #7...

*Note: This is a joke about how expensive football replica shirts are, not an insult aimed at Manchester United specifically, or Cristiano Ronaldo personally.
Surely you mean Adidas!

If you get them directly from United yeah, they'll be a bit cheaper elsewhere.

I think ManU Ronaldo shirts are being sold at 110£ each. Which if that's the case, it's damn expensive.
£80 or £115, depending on whether you go for the normal shirt, or the 'authentic' shirt on the Utd site.

Liverpool have a similar thing, with the more expensive option supposedly being what the players actually wear. Weirdly enough, that version has a stick on club crest compared to the embroidered crest in the cheaper normal version. Used to be the stick badge was evidence of cost cutting on the cheaper kit, now it is is hi tech weight saving, or whatever! 🙄

Extraordinary scenes in Brazil tonight, it was meant to be Brazil v Argentina in a World Cup qualifier but 10 minutes into the game health officials entered the pitch to remove two players for Covid breaches, The players in question are Premier League's Emiliano Martinez and Giovani Lo Celso plus Cristian Romero (who was on the bench) was also told to leave.

Its about the fact they had to quarantine for 14 days once entering Brazil (having been in England) and they didn't, Apparently they weren't told that they couldn't play and the fact they left it so late that they actually started to play the game it lead to farcical scenes, the game ended up being abandoned to much bemusement against players and coaching staff. Not to mention this was a big game between two big teams. The four players (the other being Emi Buendia, who wasn't in the matchday squad) were told to leave the country!

Well that's just preposterous. I know it was confirmed before the window closed, but... still.

We seem to have assembled a pretty bloody good Championship squad, but we're in League One. I'm still bummed by Westwood leaving (but he was on SO much money), but we still have the best keeper in the league by some margin (BPF), the best midfield general by an absolute country mile (Bannan), and the best striker (Windass, but injured), and everyone else is probably top three or five in their position in the league. And then we have Saido Berahino - no idea what he's going to be like after two years in the Belgian premier league, but it's not like he's been playing lower leagues in nowhereland; not a massive amount of goals, but scoring against Genk and Club Bruges should be harder than scoring against Cambridge United and Shrewsbury.

Still, we lost 1-0 away at Morecambe, so there's that.

It's a farce all round.

The officials should have identified the players well before kick-off. Apparently it was 2hrs prior, but even then, they could have advised the match officials not to start the match until they got there.

The players supposedly lied on thier forms (or rather the people hired to fill in their forms for them filled them in incorrectly), but despite it being very public knowledge that these players had been in the UK no one noticed.

But then the rules and protocols agreed by the south American teams before hand did allow those players to take part. Much like when internationals are held in the UK, the players complting fall under an exemption. So why do these players suddenly have to quarantine for 14 days like other mortals? I mean, I don't dissagree with it, but the agreement between the nations before hand was that they wouldn't. So somewhere along the road, Brazillian authorities have changed the rules or someone has made a very big screw up.

It seems like if the rules changed mid-tournament, no one was aware, but there's still the issue of the immigration forms supposedly being inccorect which can be taken quite seriousely.

Whatever has happened, it shouldn't have taken up to 5 minutes after kick-off for the players to have been stopped. there was no reason they couldn't have been stopped sooner and/or kick-off been delayed for 30 minutes or so, while the Argentina team could sort out their team for the match.

Hollywood Wrexham:

P4 W1 D3

Don't ever change, Wrecsam.
Not the best start admittedly, but it will take a bit of time for the new signing to settle in and for the new manager to get his ideas across.

Still better start than Swansea!

PL clubs have been punished for not releasing Brazilian players to play for their country during this international break, the eight players in question won't be available for selection for their clubs from 10th-14th.

Fabinho
Alisson
Firmino
Raphinha
Ederson
Jesus
Fred
T.Silva

Literally didn't know this could happen, apparently its a new rule.

I'm not sure it is a new rule, if you prevent a player(s) from going away on international duty that federation can impose this rule, players banned for 5 days after the international period, which Brazil are. Because they were travelling to a 'Red Country', the players would have had to quarantine for 10 days after returning from a country on that list.

I think the clubs have taken the route with the least impact. And of course, let's not forget, these countries are on the Red List for a reason, people are more likely to get infected there.

Chel$ki defender Thiago Silva and Man United midfielder Fred will also not be allowed to play in their teams' opening Champions League games against Zenit St Petersburg and Young Boys next Tuesday. The players in Champions League action on Wednesday are OK to play as the ban will be over.

Interestingly Richarlison, and Everton, were not penalised because they allowed him to go to the Olympics when they didn't have to.

It will happen again for the next international break too, it's a farce that will carry on.

So that’s how to keep Fred away from the match day squad. More call ups please, Brazil federation! :D

Games this weekend, that was one long break huh?!

Saturday.
Arsenal v Norwich
Brentford v Brighton
Chelsea v Aston Villa (5.30 Sky)
Crystal Palace v Tottenham (12.30 BT)
Leicester v Man City
Man United v Newcastle
Southampton v West Ham
Watford v Wolves

Sunday.
Leeds v Liverpool (4.30 Sky)

Monday.
Everton v Burnley (8pm Sky)

Only the one Super Sunday game, still quite a big game though.

Interesting selection of TV games, not saying that the United game should be on TV because of Ronaldo but you would have thought that a big game like Leicester v Man City would be on TV.

Make it two. The assist from Shaw was perfect, not as easy as it seems.

Pogba with 7 assists now, which is impressive.

Women's support group stages a protest "reminder" over Old Trafford today:

Palace 3-0 Spurs
Man United 4-1 Newcastle
Chelsea 3-0 Villa
Leicester 0-1 City
Watford 0-2 Wolves
Brentford 0-1 Brighton
Arsenal 1-0 Norwich
Southampton 0-0 West Ham

Great performance from Palace who were the better team v Spurs, Tanganga was sent off for two quick yellows and you could argue that he should have been sent off in the first place for the dust up with Zaha, Edouard scored just just 28 seconds after coming on on his debut. Spurs were poor and lacked creativity with Kane barely having a sniff.

Ronaldo scored twice on his second United debut with the first a tap in and the second a great finish, Fernandes scored a banger and Lingard got the fourth late on, Manquillo equalized for Newcastle who did quite well. That score line flattered Chelsea as Villa forced Mendy into some great saves, Lukaku scored twice. Much better performance from Arsenal with Aubameyang scoring, City edged a close game against Leicester thanks to Silva's goal, Hwang Hee-Chang scored on his Wolves debut, Brentford unlucky to lose a close game in the 90th minute.

Leeds 0-3 Liverpool.

Comfortable display from Liverpool somewhat overshadowed by Pascal Struijk's challenge on Harvey Elliot which led to him being stretchered off, I didn't actually see it but it was an apparent leg breaker that wasn't delibrate, Struijk was sent off and the game was halted for several minutes. Salah Fabinho and Mane with Liverpool's goals.

It was a very good display by Liverpool, especially given how the games were with Leeds last season. So many chances created, which is obviously what you want. 🙂 Elliott's injury, which looked quite bad, took the gloss of the day. The lad has been great this season, playing well beyond his 18 years. At least a dislocated ankle, but the full extent won't be known for days until any swelling does down. Good luck to him, he could be a superstar in years to come, and hope it is not that long out.

And speaking of chances created, or in this case the lack of them, Spurs looked very poor v Crystal Palace, who looked good, and were deserved winners.

The Ronaldo effect works from day one. I thought Newcastle had a very good game, and didn't deserve such a score, but that many quality players in attack, and arguably one of the best of all time, and you can only defend for so long, though they offered a goal threat too.

Lukaku scores again. Money well spent so far. 😉 His knee slide after the first goal is why it was something I would never have done, as his knee went deep into the turf. 😳 Not the way I would like to get injured, but it is only a matter of time. 🙄 Tyrone Ming had a nightmare, and reverted to the poor player he was years ago. Villa lacked a spark.

You know when you have problems selling out you stadium when the manager asks the fans to turn up.

After the game tonight Guardiola invited fans to come and watch City's home game v Southampton this Saturday.

City have often had problems selling out the stadium since the expansion to over 55,000.

Surely not, they are a big team! 😲 😄

Hughton was awful, shocking football, no attacking intent at all. The club owners are rotten as well, so doubt much will change.
