2021 F1 Driver ThreadFormula 1

I watched F2 and Mazepin was penalised for pushing Tsunoda in Spa when Ilott wasn't penalised for exactly same move in Spain.
Mazepin did the same thing twice in the race, Illot only once. Mazepin got the penalty for repeat offense rather than just one. Look at Leclerc's black-and-white flag at Monza in 2019 for doing the same thing to Hamilton. Had he done it a second time, it was a penalty.
They need to be excellent and definitely within the top 20 of all drivers in the world to be accepted by fans as worthy of taking one of the seats in the pinnacle of racing in the world. As he proved in 2020 that there were 4 drivers in the same cars better than him and more likeable - and two of those weren't chosen for promotion - of course he's never going to be accepted. Hell, even the top 2 in the F3 championship are arguably better and more worthy of promotion to F1 than Mazepin on performance reasons.

Mazepin "celebrated" his performance by willing posting a video of him engaging in an act that can get you arrested in a significant portion of the nations of Formula 1's main fanbase. For a driver with an already bad reputation to so blatantly show complete disregard to the "duties" of a sportsman in the most watched Motorsport in the world is unforgivable for many people for obvious reasons.

If you have no qualms with somebody groping another woman against her consent, perhaps it is you that is the problem, just like Nikita is. Talent and driving skill had no bearing on how people reacted to the appalling video he posted, but it helped add another nail into his reputation coffin.

Selection isn't correct, past 8 days there were few photos of Mick and one video of Nikita.
Doesn't change anything. You went ahead with a comparison trying to ignore other variables that showcase the comparison in a more accurate light.
Videos get less likes and engagement, photo of Mick got 40K likes and video with him is about 22K, it's 44% drop.
In general, yes.

Here however, it doesn't apply. Out of the last 8 posts beyond K. Mag's 9.1%, the highest engagement rate (3.3%) is a video showcasing an ability to own a piece of the car. Mick's video is also technically higher in engagement rate than the photo that was posted of him just beforehand.

The latest photo of Nikita got 44K likes, it's the same level of Mick, crazy number to be said considering Mick's last name.
Which photo is this?
Photo made before all the scandals and there could be a (possible) drop today,
Then, it's pretty irrelevant.

Edit* Err, yeah, I don't see another drop happening.
https://www.gpfans.com/en/articles/...2us-FuQvHGJp8ytrH_dRjbUcapTpFpSWpQ5k3Fp66Wi2Q
we should wait for new photos when Mazepin will come to the team base for seat fitting.
Don't move the goal posts just yet when the analytics aren't actually in favor.

then comparing photo and video is another thing at second (read above).
Sorry, argument still doesn't work when the most engaged post of the last 8 is a video (ignoring Kevin's).

Yes, few hatred comments even get 200-300 likes. From 1,2 millions audience, still not impressing.
Why use Twitter smaller stats when we have the bigger IG one? Small selections always less representative. I started from comparing videos of Mick and Nikita and there's not much drop in Mazepin acceptance. That's it.
Still wrong. You want to bring up comments & prefer IG analytics, refer back.

Least engaged post, the most commented by far.

No, IG audience likes Nikita a lot.
Most of the comments on Nikita's post are either meme'ing on the "admin", or criticizing him.

This is why he's still in the team, no one cares about Reddit.
I guess this is the cherry on top of twisting analytics.

"IG loves Nikitia, that's why he's on the team" - Haas's IG has 1.24m followers.
"No one cares about Reddit" - Reddit's F1 subreddit has 1.35m followers. It is in the top 200 or so of activity, 300 in terms of subscribers; note there are 130,000 active subreddits.

The website alone has 430 million registered accounts, 30 billion views monthly, 6th most popular social media website.

My point is that if you're crying loud it doesn't mean that you're a majority. IG stats clearly shows it.

Ok, now compare Nikita's video with other videos in watch/likes ratio. You barely could spot a difference.

Famine has already shown that the majority is calling for Mazepin to be removed from his seat. Your argument hinges on faking the numbers and ignorance of the bigger picture - a plague that the world has been fighting against for 4 years now. You've said nothing concrete and that hasn't been disproved by someone who is A: reputable as a source for fact-checking and B: is able to provide evidence apart from a few misread and easy-to-manipulate numbers. You've lost this argument and the sooner you realise, the better for everyone.

Thanks, but it's just your opinion. I see the almost same likes for Nikita as for Mick, if you suppose that it's faked, then better bring some proofs.

It doesn't.

Mazepin's post has 11,000 likes as of right now. It is the least-liked content shared since Dec. 3rd about the team's photographer. Everything else easily eclipses 16K-20K likes.

Changing goal posts once more. You argued engagement rate, you were wrong.

I called engagement the ratio between watches and likes.
That's not how engagement is calculated.

Furthermore, it's clearly cherry-picking. @Famine used your same examples on a different platform & you wrote them off b/c "Twitter".

You're biased and going as far as to twist, not just use, twist the analytics around views & likes on specifically just one platform as some sort of proof Mazepin isn't still disliked at all. You're literally grasping at the tiniest of straws & they're still not showcasing the outcome you think they are by overall metrics.

Mazepin's hate is mostly fake and come from narrow fan base from Twitter and Reddit, it doesn't make much sense for an average F1 fan. 10K likes for a video proves that.

You can keep touting that all you want. It's clear Haas' fanbase which matter more than anything just before the general F1-fanbase, clearly do not like him. 10K out of 1.24m fans is not a positive.

So hating someone because of general improper behavior and acting like an entitled prick is "mostly fake"? Are you just arguing for Mazepin because you share a nationality or do you not believe he has truly done anything wrong?

Mick got 22K from 1.24m, is it positive? Also Mazepin's seat announcement in @F1 got half a million likes. Seems those Reddit squad isn't influential enough.

I'm arguing for rationality and logic, as you can see I don't judge Mazepin's behaviour, just calculating the likes in IG.

It's a helluva lot better than the guy who averages as many likes as the team photographer.

Your sense of time is warped. The F1 post about Haas signing Nikita is Dec. 1st. Controversy over sexual assault happened Dec. 9th. Haas refrains from posting anything about Nikita after its ruling Dec. 23rd. 1 month later, the newest Nikita post has 1% engagement and tons of comments boycotting Nikita.

They went a month without sharing anything about him, only Mick. Your PR skills need brushing up much like your social media; the fact they hid Nikita for a month is proof of the influence the backlash had.

BTW, Mick's announcement got 1m likes. In case anyone besides you is in doubt that Mick is clearly where the team should focus its energy.

Edit* Here's another interesting thing about bringing up the Nikita announcement post. The top comments are all calling it out as a waste of a seat or that Callum should've gotten the seat.

And there's your problem.

Social media metrics don't make Mazepin's recent behaviour any more acceptable... just because they may be excused, condoned or accepted by some people doesn't change the facts of what he's been up to.

IMO, unless Mazepin adjusts his behaviour both on and off the track, his career in F1 will be (or ought to be) a very short one.

Of course Mick will get twice more likes as he's F2 champ and son of Michael. Nikita's figures are strong and the only reason that Haas don't post him because they don't have material, Mick participated in tests and there are much more content.

... and not a violent thug who sexually assaults women, so will naturally be liked by twice as many people as Mazepin who is.

Although it is kinda scary how many people there are out there who think being a violent thug who sexually assaults women is something laudable.

They're not and that's incorrect. Keep playing mental gymnastics over it.
14% watchers liked the Nikita's video comparing to 22% of Mick's one. It's strong for me and I don't need any mental gymnastics for it.

You mentioned criminal charges, actually. They can't be handle 'internally' in Haas F1 Team as I know. So seems kinda overreacting from you. Or from those thousands who support him.

At no point have I mentioned criminal charges anywhere. This is deflection.

This is also deflection, given that we've been over this before in this thread. Assault is any unwanted touching, and doing so with someone's genitals or breasts is sexual assault. D'Iver did not want Mazepin touching her breasts, thus he sexually assaulted her.

Your behaviour is pretty transparent here. Give it up.

My behaviour is admiring that people likes Mazepin, I don't know the reasons. Maybe he's fast and charismatic, maybe something else.

Mick must be one of the best drivers in the world. In 1 hour, by the advanced metrics brought to the table in this thread, he has 33% of likes on Haas' new video. By gawd, that's more than Mercedes' video yesterday of Lewis!

Your behaviour is stanning for a violent thug who sexually assaults women, while trying your hardest to ignore literally all of his dreadful actions - especially the fact that he sexually assaulted a women* - and deflecting if any of this is brought up, heading back to literally the dumbest attempt at presenting terrible statistics in a favourable light since Trump doodled on a map of a hurricane path.

Give it up.

*Because then you'd have to defend it. Even the guy who pretended she was an escort knew that defending sexual assault is a non-starter, and acted like any further questions on the matter didn't exist

Frank McGank, Boedelfeld and now this Clown...

Clearly sexual assault isn't a thing in Russia, so what if this video had been him engaging in sexual acts with another man? Would that have offended you, seeing as its something that seems to be offensive in Russia? Being in the public eye isn't just about being good at what you're doing, it's also about avoiding being a dick outside your work too. My family for example was a big fan of Rolf Harris until it turned out he was one of the main ringleaders of a massive paedophile ring at the BBC and proved to be an awful person, therefore we got rid of everything with his name on it because of how horrible a man he was.

My point? It is perfectly reasonable to change your opinion when presented with new facts. Mazepin might have fans, but his arrest-worthy sexual assault should be the fact that changes everything. "Dealing with internally" is a process used for when someone speaks out against the brand or company they represent, not for an indefensible act of mysogyny. Mazepin has damaged his brand and Haas, a lot more than Internal dealings will ever sort. He needs to properly apologise and be shown to have had serious consequences for his actions if he wants this to ever go away.

One ignorant Russian troll is doing a fantastic job of proving that the lack of consequences is a terrible thing and gives us even less reason to accept him on the grid.

The story so far (which has been broken down for you in above posts) doesn't support that at all.

It seems far more likely Haas didn't post any Mazepin PR (which I'm almost certain they will have shot, edited, and had ready to go out alongside any Schumacher promotion materials) because an event came into the public eye that seriously damaged the public perception of Nikita, and continuing to post PR in that context would be a seriously bad look for a Haas team that already draws plenty of ire from F1 fans.

Or, you know, they conveniently decided not to shoot any promo for their new driver for a couple weeks just because, I don't know, they didn't feel like it? Whatever you'd like to believe, I suppose.
