I was in a good points group and in with a chance to get a good result after qualifying 13th and getting up to 4th on the first lap as everyone was hitting each other and leaving the track and getting penalties. Then they came for me... I gave up on lap 2 and quit the driving is so dirty today. I think Forza Horizon 5 has turned everyone into mad bad driving cowboys yeeehaa GT Sport is now the Wild West.

So sad to see the state of this game right now. Almost deleted it after today's awful experience but I don't want to make rash and extreme decisions.

Might get into league racing where the word "racing" still means something ;)

My last hope is a complete reworking of the penalty/collision system for GT7, if not, I won't waste any more time and energy into Sport Mode. But I love simracing and will still enjoy it one way or another!

Had a fun race even after getting caught in the wrong place a couple of times in the first few laps

FIA Gran Turismo Championship // Nations Cup
2021 Exhibition Series - Season 2 - Round 4

Was kind of looking forward to this one, because I've had some good success at Spa, but on the other hand some things keeping me busy IRL had me not fully invested this weekend. Almost forgot about today's race.

But hopped in my trusted 911 RSR, swapped the team livery for the alternate silver version, being that it was a Nations race, and hit the first slot.

Qualified just ok, was obstructed a bit by some ghosts that must have made contact in the last chicane, but lined up 10th. Got a pretty poor start, I guess, almost jumped it (but lucky I never fully let off the brake...) (that flyby kind of threw me off during the light sequence... what a distraction!).

Got bullied into a near spin coming through La Source, knocking me down to 16th! Oh well... not today.

But: I hunkered down, vowed not to make a mistake and to put as much pressure on the guy in front as I could until the race was over, and accept where I ended up.

Turned out, I was able to make up 10 spots in just under 9 laps! The final one on a really brag-worthy move to let him have the inside of the first part of the last chicane, then go wide on the entry to the last one, knowing that I'd hook up better and get a run... as you can see below... it paid off with the final spot: 6th... one better than my goal of 7th for this race after qualifying! I really had to run him down over the last lap, which I started just outside of the slipstream gap. Really held it together at the end of one of these for a change!

Really like racing at Spa, I seem to have some good success there, and even though I'm not faster than a lot, over the race distance I've been able to bring home some good top-10s and better there. Fun race. Good luck to the rest of the GT Planet guys out there (shout out to @OGMowerman who was on my grid).

#5 at just under 40k DR / Q10 / R6 / 149 FIA pts / ~600k DR and lots of fun

Just got him at the line for 6th... fun finish after 9 really tough laps

Struggling on which car to take. Merc isn't quite as fast as the Audi around the track but you can afford a couple errors. Porsche and BMW are turds on the start. Both you have take TC off for a chance. Porsche I can run the same lap time over and over like a machine. Are the lobbies looking like Audi single make races?
In my lobby (half A/B), the 1st place won with Porsche, followed by a couple of BMWs and Mercs. The first Audi came 6th I believe. In a A+ lobby I believe this would be a solo R8 race.

My wheel replacement arrived and I tried one race, despite getting used to DS4 already. I had low confidence with those hards and I chose the AMG. Made a mistake on qualify and started 18th. I gained a couple of positions in the start, but got pushed and fell behind again. Also, I ran wide after Kermel Straight and got a reset, losing 8s. Finished 16th, my lowest score and position in this season and I don't want to go again. Need to regain confidence first.

Two slots at Spa with the R8, first one turned from a great experience to a nightmare, but very very satisfied with the second one!

CSA Slot 3, door #20 in top split, 328-point lobby including two world finalists, Adriano Carrazza and @HellzFire. Highest f-word lobby I've ever been in FIA. Qualified P10 which was a surprise...

Was pushed wide and almost pit manouvred into T1, had to put a lot of opposite lock to avoid spinning, down to P15. Many battles in the midfield, I was still in the battle for the places at the bottom of the top 10 when a Brazilian went for a dive into the bus stop. I noticed him and left him the apex, but he didn't make the corner at all and ended up spinning me around between the two apexes. Down to P18.

Then, I was bullied by two Brazilians on purpose, drivers I had no prior interaction with. One guy purposely drove me into the grass in the Kemmel straight after he took a track limit penalty, and the other, of the same esport team as @HellzFire (won't say his name but something similar to a big piece of ice...), decided to crash me on purpose before Bianchimont. Ended up in the barrier and with a 1.5s penalty for the pleasure... Absolutely disgusting for such a top split lobby... :banghead: Finished P20, losing almost 1k DR.

CSA Slot 4, door #14, again in top split but this time, a lower 286-points one. Managed to put together a pretty good qualy lap to start P6.

Good and this time, clean start, climbed to P5 as the guy ahead jumped the start. Had a run alongside P4 but decided to back out before Eau Rouge. Guy in P3 then dropped it ahead, so I was up to P4. Got a tap from a fellow Argentinian at Fagnes which pushed me wide, but he tucked in behind without overtaking, good sportsmanship.

Top 3 were quicker than me, so the race was about trying to save the tyres and drive consistently. I was eventually caught by an Uruguayan in a Porsche, he passed me on lap 7, with clearly better tyres. I tried to stay in the slipstream and work together with him to make sure I wouldn't lose any more positions and then see if I could get back past in the final lap. I managed to do all that, except for getting back past, he had much better tyres and I was a little bit too far to go for a move. Ended up less than a second behind in P5.

Another top 5 in top split, 237 points which is now my best after Route X (P4 would have been my best points ever). And I gained just over 1k DR, ending +19 DR for the day. After the very frustrating experience in the previous slot, very satisfied with this one.

Long story short, I did 4 attempts, and finished worse than I started in every one, finally calling it a night after Slot 4 with a decent 7th-place finish. I did the first race in the Mercedes, since it was the most comfortable, but did the remaining 3 in the Audi when the Mercedes proved way too difficult to maneuver against the likes of the Audis and Porsches. I was quicker with the Audi, but struggled to take it to the limit in race conditions, and was ultimately still down on pace compared to most others. Since 2 people disconnected during matchmaking, the game surprised me by giving me 4 additional points after I exited the lobby, giving me 223 points for my 7th place when it had previously displayed 219 points just after the race ended. Overall a decent result, but slightly underwhelming given my recent performances, and my fondness for the track.

This one was a hard one. At least for me. I had to wait until the fourth stint to eventually do something good. Spa is one of those
tracks I've never been totally comfortable on, especially on hard tires.

After trying the R8 with no success (at all), I went back to the Porsche. Had an ok quali, managing to clock a time just under the 2:20's.
Not bad but not great either...Starting in P7 In a full DR A lobby, with a lot of familiar names. I remember telling to myself: "Good thing you're not starting from behind the chicane at least" 🌞

As the green lights appeared, it was on ----> TCS off, a quick look at my rear view... Start braking safely through turn 1... Avoiding most of the madness.... Now carefully reapply the throttle... and voila!.. P4 already. "Why was it so hard at first?" I thought to myself...
I then proceeded to cut through Eau Rouge, getting a .5 sec penalty by the same time. 🙃 Thankfully I was not the only one to do so, but I still lost 2 places because of it. Lesson learned. The rest went smoothly until the very end; I had to defend my position right before the last turn but no big DHL. P6 Tonight for me.

Around 160 pts, can't complain on those. Also, for the first time ever, I saw a couple of A+ drivers in my third stint I believe. That's quite a positive boost knowing that I progress slowly but surely. Thanks to all the clean racers involved, it was a great time.

I got bored, so I made a video comparison showing each Gr.4 car under their current oval BOP. Assuming PD don't realise there's such a huge difference and do something about it before the round starts, hopefully this will help anyone who's curious know what to expect. There are timestamps for each car in the description (and yes, I did almost forget Mazda when going through in alphabetical order 😅).

The BoP is so bad that there is an almost 3 second per lap difference between the best (Citroen) and worst (Peugeot) cars.

This will be a multi class race. The only 4 manufacturers in the fastest class are Citroen, Chevrolet, Mercedes and McLaren. Nothing else will stand a chance.

7th at Spa for 150 points.

Almost forgot about this event. Jumped in to the last slot and the rustiness showed, qualifying 14th. Also wrecked the lap of a French racer who'd started 20th, felt awful about that. In the pre race comments, they declared their comeback (spoiler: they were right).

Race starts and attempt to negotiate the first corner without disaster. It went better than I could have possibly anticipated. Swept to the inside, kept it tight, absolutely zero contact and ended up 4th! From here I was against much faster races than myself. Didn't challenge those behind me when being overtaken, no point. Fell back to 9th, but got 8th back quickly then moved to 7th when the leader had an absolute stinker.

Very surprising result and delighted with it. Oh, and the French racer who's quali I wrecked? They finished a mighty 5th. Well done to them

My races in particular were fine but I do have to say from witnessing events around me I couldn't agree more. This honestly felt like week 13 in iRacing where racing etiquette goes out the window.

I'm back (momentarily) and I kicked the Audi to the curb in the end for the Porsche. Recap to come tonight!

it is ridiculous. I drove Citroen last season and it was so slow on the straights. To test i dusted off my old account, signed for Citroen and after just 3 laps i was 0.7 seconds faster then in my Jaguar on the main account.

Think the Jag was not that bad on this track too, judging the best lap times from my friends. I am ahead of a lot that are usually much faster then me but they do not have the right car. But i am so far behind the drivers in the McLaren en the Mercedes and don't stand a chance compared to them.

Also, checked the top 10 in EAMA and the wallriding cheaters are active again, making up the top spots. They must be so proud!!
Can not believe PD still has not addressed that issue! How indifferent can a studio be about their own product!!!

Was looking forward to my first real oval race but think i will give it a pass....

2021 FIA Nations Exhibition Round 5 - Interlagos
Slot 1 - Door No. 5
A+/S 2nd Split North America
Audi R8

Spa has always been one of my better tracks. I just love to put laps in here. While the Supra is my normal weapon of choice, I had to settle for the German Audi R8. Which was the first GR3 MR car I've ever raced in FIA.

Qualified well with a 2:18.3xx, about 6 tenths off my time trial, so with the nerves I felt good with that, plus it put me in P2 on the starting grid. Lights went out and I dropped TC a hair to early and spun up the rears, PXCAM quickly caught me and gave me a love tap going into T1. No issued but J2k missed his braking point and took me and PXCAM off the track. Behind me was mass mayhem. I think only 5 or so people made turn 1.

Dirty cold tires plus Eau Rouge was a nightmare, thought I lifted plenty but apparently did not. Got the .5 second penalty. Off again which meant tires were still cold and dirty going into Les Combes. Wide again, more dirt. I was really struggling to just stay on track. Then went wide on entrance to the next Eau Rouge and had a full second to burn off at the line. That dropped me back behind a gaggle of Porchesf and into p12. 10 positions lost. It was time to suck it up and get back to form.

After racing off of my back foot I finally got into my groove and started my assault (figuratively speaking) towards the front. Had several very clean battles and back and forth passes with some folks. It was honest good clean fun racing. What I love about Spa is you can have these battles and play a little chess with track position. Problem with the R8 is you really have to balance battling and tires or you'll pay later in the race.

Managed to work my way back up to P6 and put in the fastest lap in 2nd split. My tires died just as the lap last rolled around, so I limped it home, picked up one more spot to p5, and claimed my 223 points. Didn't bother going again because I knew I'd be in top split. I don't have the pace for aliens so I watched my friends race and put together my video. Probably skipping next Manu because the BMW has zero chance. Not even relatively fun in that car and I love slip stream races. Sad really.

Actually of those, I'd say only the Corvette and McLaren can win (assuming equal skill of the drivers). The Mercedes (and maybe the Viper) can at least keep up with them in the slipstream, but it won't have the chance to make a pass for the win stick. The Citroen though drives like it's on between 4x and 5x fuel consumption and about 20x tire wear, compared to 3x fuel consumption and 15x tire wear for everyone else. In every practice race I've done where there's been a Citroen present, it qualified on pole, broke the slipstream immediately (even to the Corvette and McLaren - though the rolling start gaps for lobbies are bigger than they are for FIA, which helped with that), but by Lap 5 was reeled back in by the rest of us as it completely ate its tires up, then was dumped well behind the rest of us due to having to take on much more fuel at each pit stop. The Citroen is basically the equivalent of the '88 Supra at SSRX: quick in FP, hopeless in the race.

And normally the strongest point of the Citroen is the tyre wear...

Did a practice race with @Seth_Logan the other night and the SLS can barely stay in the Mclarens draft. Can creep up to its bumper but certainly can’t ‘bump’. Lost the slip very easily and the SLS is one of the stronger cars. The amount of people in other manufacturers that are basically written off thanks to this BoP is crazy.

Also noticed the amount of new accounts that have been created by people just to get their names on the top 10 leaderboard.

I was in @Seth_Logan ’s lobby yesterday too and the Mazda lost the slip instantly and was a solid 1-1.5 secs a lap slower. Even had a McLaren pass me at the start and that was out of slip range halfway round lap 1.
i might give it a go regardless just for the meme.
The Mazda seems to be far from the worst car too, their might be three or four tiers of car for this one!

pittiful stuff. :dunce: poor E level drivers, they are going to get some tough competion. Really unfair stuff!

Seth is fast in that McLaren! Also did a race with him, qualified just behind him and saw him go into the distance after the start. No way I could keep up....
Was a fun race to do though!

The speed at which a vette, nsx, citroen, or mcclaren can pass the m4 is insane. It feels more like a multiclass race.

Hi!

Yes, I'm the driver of the OP McLaren everyone is talking about (well not me, but the car obviously ☺️ ). And indeed it's OP. But... and there is a but... it's not almighty.
I also did some races with the NSX (also from the back) with very good (almost similar) results. The NSX is superior in turn 3 and can really keep its speed without understeering in the wall. McLaren does not have that. Apart from the NSX the Trophy is strong as long as it can leach on to another fast car. The Corvette is able to hold its own and can follow slip with infinite pull. I fear the Jaag and Merc are too understeery for turn 3 and will eventually lose slip. All other cars I could easily pass both with the NSX and McLaren. The BMW's, Toyota's, Genesis and FF's etc. have no chance and do make it a multi class event. I have no experience with Citroen in any race. But don't forget that there are only a handful of McLaren/NSX/Citroen drivers in your class so it's easily possible you won't come across any of them at all!

I got bit bored with the McLaren after a while and started from the back and that is something entirely different. So a bad qualifing and because we have to make 2 stops, there is a good chance any McLaren driver will be caught in traffic or not start on pole and clean overtaking is still something difficult. I also noticed players don't mind puttin' a McLaren in the wall, just cause he IS a McLaren driver. And THAT scares me...

I drove a lot of you this week (@xxPinkyKissxx @Dave_H_87 @MCL1974 and @Mistah_MCA (Yay!)) and thank you all. Since I LOVE BMB and have been practicing/racing it for the last 2 weeks, I'm getting pretty fast with it. One reason that I can really nail this one is that for once the top 10 includes the brand I'm driving and at a track that is simple enough to copy. That helps and I wish there was at least one video available from the fastest driver per manufacturer.

I don't think this will be much of a pack race like other oval races. In addition to the massive disparity between the different cars, the tendency for the cars to understeer, especially at T3, is probably going to catch quite a few people out. Plus, if a lot of people sit this one out, there will be a larger skill disparity in each race too.

Another tip for those running, don't bother fuel saving. Every single race I've done, I've used 53% of my fuel after 8 laps, regardless of whether i was leading or slipstreaming someone. Short shifting when exiting T1 had a slight effect, but I think it only saved me 2% of my fuel.

Thanks for the heads-up and good luck to you!

You don't mention the 4WD cars but I guess they're awful too because of their understeery nature ?

Oh and I'm totally following you regarding the top10 ghosts. You could still try and find a replay of a lap using the video search tool. You may me able to watch a replay of a top player in the same car as yours sometimes.

it is not just the car; it is also the one controlling it, and you are doing that very well! Good luck and hope you have a good result!!!!

Looks like I may have a week off then!
BMW? Yes, no match for the "top tier". I mean: @Mistah_MCA is fast as hell and he just let me pass him, 'cause no point.

From what I've seen:

Tier 1
ChevroletMcLarenCitroënHonda
Tier 2
LamborghiniMercedes-BenzRenault SportDodgeJaguar
Tier 3
AudiFerrariBMWHyundaiLexusFordMitsubishiMazdaVolkswagenNissanSubaruAston Martin
Tier 4
PorscheAlfa RomeoPeugeotToyota

Out of those the only one I'm not so sure about are Nissan & Lexus. They seemed to follow each other around and to be fair in a different "group" from the other Tier 3 cars, but I didn't see many of those, so it's hard to tell.

Still skipping the GR4 round Wednesday and working on the following GR3. An extra week of practice should help.

After initial quali testing I think top 10 free practice will be in the 1:52's judging by my typical delta.

Top split race pace on softs should tickle 1:53's and I think 1:54's would be competitive. Haven't ran tire wear yet but it should be fun. I like the track and the Supra should do well.

I can say my limited GR4 racing seems to help my GR3 driving. I've always struggled with being earlier on inputs and having to do so with GR4 cars is spilling over to GR3.

Not sure about that. Just did a practice race, was seconds behind car no 3, went in the pits same time, came out 6 seconds later.
Noticed that most other cars that entered the pits with me that same lap had much more fuel then me when the re-fuelling started. Same in pitstop number 2, also lost about 6 seconds to other cars.

Was a fun session though, mostly A and A+ drivers, and me, a humble B rider, qualifying third and ending 5th. Don't think I will have that experience very often....

Might just enter a race on Wednesday for the fun of it....
