Why? I write the majority of Sweden's population off as being out of their mind as well. We currently have a conservative right government, because all people care about apparently are gas prices and tax cuts, and they think immigrants are to blame for every problem we have. Sure, our living standards are still ok I guess, but not for long I'm afraid.
Being in disagreement doesn’t mean the political opposition is close to crazy. Every country has its struggles and with different views on how to handle things most effectively. That’s normal.
Also, I think it's safe to say that the majority of Germans were out of their mind in the late 1930's, early 1940's.
Extreme comparison and it’s uncalled for. Most American presidents in recent decades have contributed to hundreds of thousands people dying in various parts of the world. Trump didn’t go down that route because he is human enough to realize that armed imperialism is evil regardless of the underlying ideology. Which is also why he comes up with unorthodox ideas like making monetary offers on foreign territory he’s interested in.

Biden have you seen him lately he doesn't even know where he is.
Trump told a crowd in North Carolina that they have a great candidate running for Senate in David McCormick.

David McCormick ran for Senate in Pennsylvania.
Food cost is a very big concern four years ago I could afford to eat. I have no problem with inflation but when the cost of something goes up a dime doesn't mean the stores have to raise it a half dollar.
Then, you're going to be in a really good time with Trump. There's a reason tariffs are called a tax passed onto the consumer.
Tariffs are taxes placed upon imported foreign products, and the companies importing those goods pay those taxes. However, because those tariffs costs the importers more money, they then in turn raise the prices of their goods.

What does that mean for the average American shopper? If Trump goes through with his tariffs plan, grocery prices will likely go up, rather than down, according to most economists — at least in the short term. This is especially an issue with food products, as American farmers and fishers aren’t able to speedily increase production of food to counteract the import price hike. While it’s possible that their eventual production increases will level out grocery prices, in the near future, if Trump commits to his tariff plan, prices will likely rise on such imported items like coffee and certain fruits, like bananas.
know what's best for a country that you don't live in?
And yet, you're in here liking posts from other foreigners who don't live here when they give an input in alliance with yours.

she never answered a single hard question thrown at her,
As Trump never did as well. He would "weave" an irrelevant answer or insult the person.
refused to go on any interview that wasn't superfluous fluff.
Trump also backed out of debates & interviews.

It's ironic that the primary complaint against the Biden(Harris) administration has been "the economy". By any objective standard the US economy during the last 4 years has outperformed the economy of every other developed nation. Yes, inflation has been a problem, as it has been in every other country, but job creation & GDP growth has led the developed world. On October 17th the Economist published its weekly edition with this cover:

s-l1600.jpg

I understand that the average American blue collar worker doesn't have a subscription to the Economist and furthermore the riches of the American economy's success have not been shared equally, with the lion's share going to the already wealthy. Billionaires like Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos have seen huge increases in their personal wealth.

Trumps plan (or concept of a plan) for the economy appears to be to introduce import tariffs on practically everything. This, to put it simply, is a tax on the consumer. It will make everything more expensive and possibly by a huge amount. If manufacturing returns to the US it would take years to do so ... and the goods produced would be much more expensive than those produced under a globalized economy. At the same time, Trump is apparently considering further tax cuts for the very wealthy. This will balloon the deficit and national debt while increasing the cost of living for the average American. The government will have to borrow more money to finance the increased debt. More inflation.

He also is talking about deporting millions of undocumented workers. Aside from the huge amount of money and social dislocation this will cause, it will negatively effect an economy that is already experiencing a tight labour market. Businesses that rely on cheap immigrant labour will be devastated - I can guarantee that millions of Americans will not be lining up to harvest asparagus and cabbages.

This is just a brief rundown of one of the poorly thought out concepts of a plan Trump has in mind. Wait until he tries (again) to tackle healthcare. Who knew it was all so complicated? Certainly not Trump, who doesn't seem to have the focus or intellect to think deeply about anything.

Income inequality becomes higher, middle class shrinking. Inflation is more important than GDP for poorer people.

By undocumented workers you mean criminals that crossed border without permission and doesn't pay taxes? How dare he?

Didn't Biden continued Trump tax war with China?

Ah yes, collective punishment. Some immigrants commit a crime, so all immigrants should be punished. Like the Haitians who are here legally (through vetting) or even DACA citizens who came through their parents & do pay taxes are being threatened under the same blanket of deportation.

This is the same as someone deciding you should be held for the same war crimes that may be committed by any Russian soldiers in Ukraine simply because you're also Russian, even though you're completely innocent & law-abiding.

Yes, the most prominent being EVs & semiconductors b/c we have EVs built in the US & the CHIPS act encourages semiconductor production in the US (ironically, Trump wants to repeal that very act that creates American jobs....).

This is not the same as imposing tariffs on everything & everyone. We don't have that sort of widespread manufacturing to incentivize an American product in every single industry & the materials needed to build them would be affected regardless.

We have already seen what Trump tariffs do, anyway; I believe soybeans & steel are two of the most controversial & documented.
Trump’s tariffs helped create some jobs, but even more were lost in the wake of his trade wars.

Overall, the US economy lost jobs due to the tit-for-tat tariffs that took effect during the Trump administration, according to several studies, like one from the Tax Foundation and another from the US-China Business Council, a nonprofit whose goal is trade promotion.

A study from St. Louis Federal Reserve economists provides more evidence that tariffs played a role in job losses. It showed states more exposed to US tariffs on imports from China experienced “lower increases or even decreases” in employment and output between 2018 and 2019.
Trump’s tariffs were imposed, in part, to boost the US manufacturing sector – but that industry suffered a loss of jobs as well, according to at least one study.

Federal Reserve economists found a net decrease in manufacturing employment due to the tariffs in 2019. That’s mostly because goods became more expensive to US businesses and consumers, and retaliatory tariffs put on American-made goods made other US manufacturers less competitive when selling abroad.

Take this hypothetical example: Trump’s tariffs made foreign steel more expensive to US consumers – so much so, that some may switch to an American-supplier of steel. This is good for the US steel producer.

But now, US manufacturers that use steel to make their goods are likely paying a premium for it. This makes it more expensive for some American manufacturers to produce their own goods and hurts their bottom line.
“While one may view the negative welfare effects of tariffs found by other researchers to be an acceptable cost for a more robust manufacturing sector, our results suggest that the tariffs have not boosted manufacturing employment or output, even as they increased producer prices,” the Federal Reserve economists wrote.
What’s more, the jobs that were created came at a high cost. Each new job in the steel industry was expected to cost steel buyers an extra $650,000, according to an analysis from the Peterson Institute for International Economics.

undocumented workers
Isn't tax evasion and illegal crossing of border are crimes? Not sure why, then, billions are dreaming about US Green card.
This is not the same as imposing tariffs on everything & everyone.
Isnt. Problem is, Trump wouldn't do that. You putting that in his mouth, as you regularly do here.

Seeking refuge/asylum is not a crime. A gigantic percentage of these immigrants also do pay taxes.

Edit* BTW, if you clip quote me again to restructure my post & ignore everything else, I will report you.

Nope.

Trump has vowed across-the-board tariffs of 10% to 20% on all imports arriving into the United States and a 60%-100% tariff on Chinese imports.

In his own words from Agenda 47.
To achieve this goal, we will phase in a system of universal, baseline tariffs on most foreign products.

Would you want Harris running your country I don't want her running mine?
Hmmm, I haven't insulted you or belittled you but you haven't answered this:
I'm centre right and didn't vote in our election this year.

What was the clincher for you?
I think guys like you are key to understanding how Trump won.

This....isn't surprising:

President-elect Donald Trump has not yet submitted a series of transition agreements with the Biden administration, in part because of concerns over the mandatory ethics pledge vowing to avoid conflicts of interest once sworn in to office, CNN has learned.

Nothing close to being that simple, but nice try with the emotive language.

and doesn't pay taxes? How dare he?
They contribute almost $100 billion in taxes each year, yet can't benefit from most services people in the same circumstances could. So you are 100% wrong on this, as well as doing work that most American wouldn't, they contribute to the tax revenue in a massive way, and commit less crime per head than US citizens do.

Hmmm, I haven't insulted you or belittled you but you haven't answered this:
Nor have I, he will still avoid answering your questions.

So for a while I was considering a thread on collective punishment as government policy. I was motivated largely by the rhetoric about Haitians and that quieted down, so ultimately I decided against it, but it's a super common theme in Trumpism and modern [North] American conservatism:
With potentially dozens of murderers and hundreds of criminals in the caravan it's not beyond the bounds of reason and logic to think it's probably not a good idea to let them into your country.
It needn't even be proven that members of a group perpetrated harm. The mere possibility based on dubious statistics is enough to punish them all.

Addendum: Yes, and that's bad. It was policy that infringed upon the freedoms of Americans when the Trump administration introduced it and it was a policy that infringed upon the freedoms of Americans when Biden continued it.

That something is prohibited by law doesn't make it a legitimate harm. It's prohibition for the sake of prohibition. Make immigration legal and you can eliminate illegal immigration completely.

For the life of me I cannot make any sense of nativist parasites' obsession with immigration into countries of which they aren't native. This isn't to say that one cannot have opinions about politics in other countries, but non-native nativism is absurd on its face. Make it make sense.

I swear this rat would have dropped the dime on anyone aiding Jews' escape from the ghetto.

In this case, yes, they are b/c it's just playing semantics at whether he means 100% or 95%. You miss the point because broad sweeping tariffs are not good for the economy.

But, you keep deleting the information that disproves you so you can repeat your obvious lack of ability to participate in this discussion.

You won't get any disagreement from me ... but this is something that has been happening for decades - ever since Reagan introduced the concept of "trickle down" economics. Trump's answer seems to be to introduce sweeping tariffs on imports - essentially a tax - increasing the cost of many goods and driving up inflation. At the same time he will likely give large tax reductions to billionaires. How is that going to help "the middle class"? Having the richest-man-in-the-world in his cabinet doesn't bode well for the interests of the working class.

Elon should help to deregulate market, which should make US economy more effective and create more jobs. There is conflict of interests, but there always be conflict if you bringing business man in White house.

Lets make it clear, I don't know how well he could handle economy. But we clearly see, that most of US citizens didn't like course of Dems.

It doesn't seems like Dems trying to change outdated immigration laws, they , for whatever reason, are fine with creating undocumented population. US citizens aren't happy that US laws don't work.

Are illegal immigrants creating profits for US economy? Sure, they do. Doesn't mean that correctly working system isn't better for everyone.

Deregulate, yep that's always worked out well in the past hasn't it...
There is conflict of interests, but there always be conflict if you bringing business man in White house.
Fortunately, a way around that exists, unfortunately, Trump sent the precedent for ignoring it.
Lets make it clear, I don't know how well he could handle economy. But we clearly see, that most of US citizens didn't like course of Dems.
Then why are you talking as if you do? And we do know how he would handle it, which if you're in the the top 5% of earners in the US, then it's in a way that will benefit you. The rest of the country, well it's in a way that will screw you to benefit that 5%.
It doesn't seems like Dems trying to change outdated immigration laws, they , for whatever reason, are fine with creating undocumented population.
We know exactly why that is, any attempt at immigration reform has been blocked by which party?

Yeeep, they can do w/e they want for the next 4 years. Might be tough, but if there’s a will there’s a way.
Hell, I see it as they are potentially laying the groundwork for being able to suspend the whole shooting match and do whatever they want.

Repeated claims of an invasion from the southern border (despite being at a current low) and the resulting undocumented people being a risk to the safety of the US people (despite committing crimes at a significantly lower rate that US citizens) is hitting a very, very specific part of the US constitution.

"The Privilege of the Writ of Habeas Corpus shall not be suspended, unless when in Cases of Rebellion or Invasion the public Safety may require it."

I know it sounds like an utterly mad thing to bring up, and I 100% hope it's not the case and Trump and the Trump-Controlled GOP just used it as election scaremongering, but the targeted language used is, at the very least, noteworthy.

So it's OK to post foul language now I thought that the AUP policy was against that.
I've read it multiple times and all possible language that would fall foul of the AUP is censored out unless I've missed something. So yes, the post is OK.

If you feel my post is contradicting GTPlanet's AUP policy then I encourage you to use the report function to bring it to the attention of the GTP staff as I'm sure they could do with a good laugh.
