The list of networks and start times for the three national series is now available. We're down to 9 Cup races (8 points) and 3 Truck races on over-the-air TV, though as previously announced, the entire Xfinity schedule is available over-the-air on the CW (listed in calendar order):
- The Clash on Fox
- Daytona 500 on Fox
- Atlanta spring Cup race on Fox
- COTA Cup race on Fox
- Homestead Truck race on Fox (the Cup race is on FS1)
- Talladega spring Cup race on Fox
- Michigan Truck race on Fox
- Lime Rock Park Truck race on Fox
- Daytona summer race (the last regular-season race) on NBC
- Talladega fall race (3rd-last of the season) on NBC
- Martinsville fall race (the final cutdown race) on NBC

Coming in with my yearly old man rant. No race start before 2pm. In fact, the only race that starts before 3 (THREE!) on FOX is the 500, surprisingly, which starts at 2:30. Finishing under the lights used to be a novelty. It feels like it happens over half the season now.

Blame the West Coast for that.
Prediction - the bulk of the Daytona 500 will be on Monday again as the usual late-afternoon showers wash out Sunday.

Some further news from Bob Pockrass:
- The 3rd RFK charter is a lease from Rick Ware Racing.
- 23XI/Front Row didn't get their preliminary injunction to allow them to compete as chartered teams, with the teams and NASCAR now battling over the timing of the appeal (23XI/FRM want oral arguments next month, NASCAR wants to push it to/beyond a late-January "freeze the charter field" date).
- Related, NASCAR belatedly presented 23XI/FRM open agreements with the no-lawsuit provision removed. They haven't signed that yet.
- Speaking of Front Row, Todd Gilliland is moving to the 34, which retains the Love's sponsorship his father brought to Front Row.
- Joe Gibbs drivers will get to race on dirt on their off days.
- JTG Daugherty has been rebranded as Hyak Motorsports as the Geschickters finish departing.

In charter lawsuit news, 23XI/FRM have filed a motion to dismiss the appeal of the denial of a preliminary injunction that would have allowed them to compete as chartered teams. The teams' lawyers said that circumstances have changed that both made the appeal moot and made a new request of relief from the district court necessary.

Continuing the charter lawsuit news, in reply to a renewed attempt by 23XI/FRM to get a preliminary injunction to get their original charters back, NASCAR is now planning on only 30 chartered teams as they're also planning on seizing the former SHR charters 23XI and FRM bought.

Meanwhile Chevy is dropping the Camaro name from their cars, in a move which I will pretend was inspired by Dan Snyder's Washington Football Team.
This and the news of Cadillac joining Formula 1 in 2026 has been stirring up all sorts of chatter about GM potentially swapping Chevy for Caddy as their representative brand at the same time, but I can't really see it happening. Of course there are still all those rumors about Corvette being spun off as a seperate brand in the near future too, so... hell Dutch, I dunno.

The Chevy not-Camaro news reminds me of the latter days of IROC, though IROC also dropped the Pontiac name from the discontinued Trans Am.
Speaking of things going away, the second round of qualifying (except for the non-Daytona-500 superspeedway races, with the Daytona 500 retaining the Duels to set the majority of the field) and inside/outside designation by qualifying group are going away in all 3 series. As a reminder, on the Cup side, outside of the Clash and Daytona 500, practice/qualifying for the first half of the season is on Amazon Prime, and practice/qualifying for the entire second half is on Max/TruTV.

As of now, there will be 30 fully-chartered teams and 6 chartered-but-without-release-language teams as 23XI/Front Row got their preliminary injunction from the new judge in the case. Said injunction applies to both the original charters and the ones the teams bought from SHR.
12/23 update - Sounds like the lawsuit isn't going to get settled anytime soon. On Friday, the judge in the case set a few dates in the trial. Though he did set a January 8 hearing on NASCAR's request to toss the suit, the other dates he set (9/25 for discovery to be completed and 12/1 for the trial) and a comment he made that “NASCAR fans (and members of the public who may become fans) have an interest in watching all the teams compete with their best drivers and most competitive teams" strongly suggest that NASCAR won't get the dismissal.
As for the injunction, NASCAR is appealing, while saying they'll guarantee 23XI and Front Row 2 spots each while the lawsuit plays out.

Some Front Row news:
- Unless they lose them on appeal, their purchase of the ex-Stewart-Haas Racing charter has been finalized.
- Except for the number of the car Noah Gragson will be driving, the 3-car lineup is set, with Zane Smith driving the 38 (freshly-announced on both the driver and number) and Todd Gilliland driving the 34 (previously announced).

Project 91 is back, with Helio Castroneves to attempt the Daytona 500 in a 4th Trackhouse entry.
That makes 40 confirmed entries for the Daytona 500, with at least 4 more likely, including Truex in a Tricon/JGR (not 23XI due to the lawsuit) car.

- The Castroneves Daytona 500 is looking like a one-off, with any additional Project 91 races this year being on a road course, likely with other drivers on Justin Marks' list.
- NASCAR is allowing Castroneves to test a Cup car at Talladega later this month.
- Marks would eventually like to enter the Indy 500, though that will not happen this year.

A couple of rule changes were announced today including a new provisional that will basically lock Helio Castroneves into the 500 in the event he does t qualify on speed or races his way in during his duel race.
A few others include a Damaged Vehicle Policy change, (7 mins on pit road than unlimited time in garage. Allowed to return to race if you go to the garage.) and if you get a playoff waiver for a non-medical reason, (like Larson last year) you lose ALL your playoff points.

That was fast - Trackhouse has notified NASCAR it intends to use the brand-new Open Exemption Provisional for Helio Castroneves. Of course, if he qualifies or races his way in, the OEP will go unused, there would be 40 cars in the field, and the 91 would be eligible for the earned share of the purse and points. The OEP was also part of the new charter agreement per Bob Pockrass, which explains why Trackhouse is able to use it.
Meanwhile, the judge in the 23XI/FRM lawsuit denied NASCAR's latest motion to dismiss the case, and also declined to require the teams to post a bond for the difference between the chartered share of the pool and the non-chartered share. That includes roughly $5 million just for being a chartered team.

So the Open Exemption spot is basically a celebrity entry, since it's likely meant for any champion from another series who wants to cross the Daytona 500 off their bucket list and give NASCAR a ratings boost... of which there have been several over the years. I know Lewis Hamilton has said a couple of times that he wants to give the 500 a go before he hangs it up for good.

What NASCAR giveth to a chartered team via the Project 91 Exemption, it taketh away (again) from MBM - they rejected Mike Wallace as a driver due to lack of "recent" experience ("recent" being less than 5 years since his last Xfinity start, which was over 5 years after his previous Xfinity/Cup starts), so the open team they forced to go part-time in 2021 by excluding them from their e-sports competition has to scramble for another "funded" driver.

Wasn't he indefinitely suspended by NASCAR for a social media post in 2020 as well? This sort of seems like cherry picking to say he's unqualified due to time away.
EDIT: I was going to bring up James Hylton as an example but he did race ARCA in between the 12 years that he attempted a Cup race. Wallace hasn't run anything so its curious why they couldn't have tried another driver.

He was, but he was reinstated in 2021. A further strike against MBM - it's owned by Carl Long, who once was hammered by NASCAR to the point of financial ruin for an oversized engine in the 2009 Sprint Showdown, and because he couldn't pay the $200,000 fine, was banned from Cup for just short of 8 years.
Wallace was going to bring a monied sponsor to MBM, which is why they're searching for a "funded" replacement.
