I may be letting on how decrepified I may be...BUT I remember as a kid watchin the .President ( Kennedy ) get shot in slow motion ..I saw citys burn from race riots..I watched as we conquered space and landed on the moon. We had body counts and list of the dead ..Vietnam..every night at six, before dinner.
Granted there was only three channels, plus UHF. , but even then I thought I was gettin enough input. They still print newspapers right ? My point here is you can watch the news and think you are seeing everything..but your not. You are seeing what the news givers have been able to package for you in time for the deadline. Or what the person in that place has been allowed to transmit , or has been able to transmit.
My question is ; Do you still look for more info ? Or are you so overwhelmed with the Images that it satisfies your need to know ?

I think the focus on the war and the tightly controlled release of information by the military borders on a kind of sickness - like watching a car accident.

The thing is this time they are doing just the opposite. They have media from all over the world embeded ( They have to travell with the military unit that they are with no matter what ) They actually wan't the world to see what they are doing and how they are doing it. I admit they are doing it to influence world opinion ..**** they even have all the Arabs independent reporters have access ! this is unprecidented in history ! We are all living through ..good or bad .. a truly new era..never have we had the access and the capability to show war in real time...Guess what ? ..How many wars would there have been if the WORLD could WATCH ?

I guess i would say that im craving more info ..
Not for the fact that i want to see more pictures of destruction..

I have 3 friends serving in the Gulf and every time i see pictures of skirmishes ,etc i get all edgy wondering if my friends are there..

And when i heard about the helicopter incident i could'nt sleep wondering if any of them had been on that chopper..

This is news not unlike any other, cept this is HISTORY unfolding before the world, it is your choice to partake of it, or not...

Without a doubt we are witnessing history..whats happening now is unprecedented. For the first time in modern warfare you have Global coverage..and it seems both sides WANTS you to see what is goung on. Beleive me the same images that invoke pride and awe on one side, are Invoking fear and terror in other eyes. The world for the most part is scared silly of the US and the raw power it projects. so many times through history powerfull nations have had their way,,they think why should we be any different? What other country's do you have a problem with..Am I next ? I have been reading the Arab news coverage to get a sense as to how we are perceived..its not as nice peace loving freedom bringers..reality is in the eye of the beholder.
I have to admit watching the protest and anti American invective every day on the news bothers me a great deal..I beleive wholheartedly in what we are trying to accomplish. And I'm very proud of my country and the men and women of our military ,,who are out there breaking new ground in a very dangerouse part of the world. The once cradle of civilization could become the first true Arab Democracy..or it could without the support of the rest of the world another Lebenon.

I see plenty on TV. But I find reading news and listening to the radio are better for me. I think TV is so wrapped up with visuals that ideas come in second place. On the radio I can envision it and think about it at the same time.

TV on = Brain off.

As I've been watching it for hours on end while playing video games, I can attest to this - it's nearly a routine over at Fox News - first to a war correspondent, then to military analysts, then to the press briefing room at the White House, then back to the analysts, then back to another correspondent... sheesh - I zone it out after any longer than a half hour.

You gotta understand this is all news to them too, to be a part of history unfolding before us, I'm sure they are exploring teritory unchartured before in their respective careers... They have to report the news, we have the option of NOT watching

I find it amazing the amount of, live, in-field coverage that we are getting. I also find it very interesting to see just a tiny bit of what actually happens in a battle or war. Whatever your opinion might be on the matter, I still see it as informative. I'm glad that there is alot of media coverage. But I'm not glad that the media tends to focus only on the negative aspects. This I find disturbing. I would like to see a bit of both. Equal portions of success and failure. I want to see a broader picture of what is going on, and I don't think that the media is delivering this. The media is feeding us through a tiny little cocktail straw.
I'd like to find more informations about what is happening, but there is just so much that will never be released to the press. It seems pointless to me and overwhelming at times.
I would like to get more info, but I'll just have to suffice with reading and watching the news as I know of no other source to find any more info.

You could enlist, an get your information first hand

People are not complaining about "it" (by "it" you can only mean the fact that they can turn it off, because that's what I was referring to). They are criticizing the coverage, saying they wish it was more thorough, less redundant, etc. Being critical is not being a complainer.

Our news comes from a competitive marketplace and they will dish up what the mob will swallow. Some people are left unfulfilled and even insulted by it. But unless they are buying the Gap Khakis advertised during the commerical breaks, nobody cares what they think.

I have turned it off because it's redundant and useless. I can read in a few minutes what it will take me a half hour to find out on TV (hence maximizing my commercial viewing time). I also liten to the radio on the way to and from work. What more could you want. I don't need a minute to minute report.

Yeah, but the problem is the constant coverage. The TV is on right now - MSNBC, CNN, Fox News, CNN HN, and CNBC are all covering it, as are two local channels. Ick! Don't they have a couple of nightclub fires to report on?
