2K....4K, what's happening?

I have a 4K TV, and decent leads. GT Sport tells me it's running in 2k though (with no option to improve)

anyone else have this?

That's odd, it says 4k on my Sony TV and I can't switch to 2k?

...go to display options and you and switch between 2K to 4K.

...out of curiosity, just in case my age is showing.....

Where do you look for this setting, and what does it say for you?

You have a PS4 Pro?

Go to options > display settings > 2k (prioritise framerate)

Notice: For me I can't switch to 2K, it's locked on 4K...

I've got the same issue using my sony x800d, and it was because i was using the wrong hdmi port, not all of them are built to support 4k hdr.

Technically, GT Sport doesn't run in 4K.
It runs in 1800p (2K)
Your TV wouldn't know that since it's only going to relay whatever information the PS4 gives it about the image that is being fed to it.

OP make sure you are plugged into an HDMI 2.0 port else you will forced to a lower image output by the lower spec HDMI 1.4 port gracing older sets. Newer sets tend to come with HDMI 2.0 for every port these days.

Incase of PS4 pro. Go to you're tv settings. For LG (example) you need to change de HDMI port to 4K input.
I had the same message. My tv was accepting 2K, had to switch it to 4K.

Check google, how to change the HDMI setting for you're tv.

So guys...u know that almost all games are rendered in 4k right?
On PS3, your output was 1080p but the games were in 720p or 1080i.
Same idea on ps4, but games are now rendered in or to/from 2k or/to 4k so Check the video setting in the game instead.

Outputting a 4K signal and rendering at 4K are 2 completely different things.

On PS4, it renders at 1080P and your TV upscales to 4K. On PS4 Pro, it renders at 1800P (checkerboard rendering) and then upscales to 4K and then sends the signal to your TV.

Oups there should be a “not rendered at 4k” in my post...

Anyways, I think it is better to leave it to the man who designed the PS4 pro to do the explanation for some

I was having the same issue. I have a ps4 pro and a Samsung ks8000 4k hdr tv and it would only give me the 2k high frame rate option. I have my tv and ps4 set up to play games at 4k and I've never had any issues. Ideas?

I have a similar set up and notice the same thing within my menu. I Just read this from the GT online manual:
“2K Output Mode for PlayStation®4 Pro console: Select the mode to use for PlayStation®4 Pro console 2K output. 'Prioritise Quality' offers high picture quality using the same amount of visual information as 4K output (4K downsampling), while 'Prioritise Frame Rate' is a response-oriented mode (2K MSAA) that still offers higher picture quality than when playing on a PlayStation®4 console”
So is 2k output better for the PS4 pro??
I’m a little confused

standard ps4 is 1080P but if you have a 4k HDR tv that does upscaling then you should get 4k I do my tv has a small box at load up telling me its showing 4K HDR

Yeah, my tv (LG) notifies when switching to the PS4 that HDR is enabled.

My TV also has 4k upscaling, not sure if it's fully enabled though - will have to look into it.

I had a similar issue until I changed hdmi ports, certain ports didn't support 4k. I've got a Bravia (now hmdi port 2)

All 4 of my HDMI ports support 4k and hdr, and my HDMI cable for the pro is HDMI 2.0. I haven't had any problems with my other games that output 4k/hdr so this is a little perplexing.

I believe 2k is another term for 1080p so no I don't believe that's the highest setting. There should be an option that shows "4k" but it doesn't come up for me. The only option available is "2k high frame rate mode".

Your problem is that you are not plugged into an HDMI 2.0 port, HDMI 1.4 does not support 4K output bandwidth constraints. Plug your PS4 Pro into the HDMI 2.0 port for the full fat experience. This is assuming you have a 4K TV, my apologies if you do not and this response can be ignored.

Partially correct, on the Pro it renders the signal natively at 1800p then uses checkerboarding to reach 4K. Checkerboard is the temporal rendering technique using the highest image output possible natively then upscaling to your target resolution reducing artifacts that occur when rendering from lower resolutions and less strenuous on the GPU furthermore the TV isn't upscaling anything(if it's game mode is the real deal that is) and you wouldn't want it to since that creates lag in video games.

Re-read what I've written. The PS4 Pro does the "upscaling" and then sends it to the TV. You're basically repeating what I've said in other words.
