300k Endurance at Grand Valley :: Times, Cars, and Experience

I am going to redo this race again in the same car(lightened, tuned S2000, ~310 bhp), but this time I want to try driving it fully in H-gate mode in G25(last time I did it in sequential). Having the Obutto setup now and bolted the pedals down really helped in that respect I find so I want to try to get miles under my belt driving with it.

are you suggesting you lost this race using a ferrari enzo? or did i just read that wrong :dunce:

No, I screwed up my last laps after the fuel stop (not completely necessary), trying to catch the NSX and doing some mistakes. I'm pretty sure if I do it again, I'll win easely with better refuel and tyres management.

My first GV300 was an epic battle. I wanted to make it a close one - so I ran a Holden Monaro CV8 with the "$2K upgrade" + Sport Soft tyres only. It's got good power, but it's nowhere near the RX7s or NSXs that usually seem to dominate this event (according to this thread!).

A bad start (missed gear) put me in 12th at the first hairpin, but found it easy to get to & stay in middle of pack running 2.14s. Decided on lap 8 to push up to leaders, and with a few 2.10s got to front on lap 13. Spent 2 laps building a 10 second gap, but then the tyres were pretty much shot. I tried to stay out, but 2nd had caught me and was abut to pass (my times blew out to 2.20+), so pitted after 18 laps.

Going for more longevity, I put on Sports/Hard & took no fuel, hoping to hold on til lap 40ish. Unfortunately, I was also trying to maintain my entry & mid-corner speeds that I achieved with the soft tyres (realised my error here later in the race), and as they had a LOT less grip I tore them up in 12 laps, all the while managing only 2.15s and worse. Absolutely had to pit again after lap 30, and went back to Sports Soft, plus a little fuel (was down to 40%), and left the pits in 4th, 20-odd seconds behind the 2 RX7s, who had also just pitted (No NSXs in the race).

Took it much easier on this stint, running consistent 2.12s and made the tyres last me until lap 50 - when they'd started to fade, but nowhere near as badly as in stint 1, as I'd not pushed them so much. I had managed a smooth overtake of the RX7s and kept them abotu 12 seconds behind me.

After my final pit, I was in 2nd, 15 seconds down with 10 to run. I knew if I ran the consistent 2.12s I could get him, but a single spin would likely cost the race.. that is, until on lap 52 I watched him spin on the first hairpin, and cruised past him into the lead. With a combination of consistent laps and back-markers, I finished about 30 seconds clear.

Was a great, tense race, but not so much because of the close racing, more due to pit strategies and my poor use of the Sports Hard tyres. It did make me realise that there is (at least in the Enduros) some well-implemented tyre wear there!

I'm sure that if I ran the race again with this knowledge, and without the couple of spins, I'd beat it very easily, but nevertheless, as my first run, this was great.

BMW series 1 tii. With sport mid i was a close racing with the RX7 but the car was eating front tires pretty fast, so i ended in the sand and got passed. Then i put sport softs and the car flyed to 1st again, getting a 1 min lead at lap 33. Then the lights went off :(

I'll try again with a mustang

Ran this last night with the Gran Turismo GT-R and won by 3 laps. I'm going to try again with a standard R34 GT-R or a Nismo 270R next time as it became a bit of a cruise. Did it pretty much in 2 hours dead with 5 pit stops including one fuel fill.

One note on the Gran Turismo GT-R is not to run it on sports hard tyres like I did thinking they would wear better. It just won't turn with them on (especially under braking) so I reverted to the sports soft (standard tyres it comes with) which lasted just as well and transforms the handling - mainly because you're not having to be so aggressive to get the nose in!

i'm 40 laps through and needed a rest... Im driving my fully spec'd Ferrari 458, and to be honest its really sucking! i definitely wouldnt recommend doing it in a high power car... im blowing through racing tires every 5-7 laps... i cant even remember how many pitstops i've had!!! So far i've had to battle from last place 4 times due to burning tires out so fast... now im on lap 40 of 60 and i only have a 5sec gap to second. If i ever have to do it again im going to use a 4WD car with low amount of mods

I am wanting to use my Suzuki Cappucino RM as I have only used it in one race and think it might be cool to use. Should be really easy on tires given its weight.

Those that have used it:
* how much power did you put to it
* what was the tire selection you used (only one person made such comment and it was only one pitstop).

I will only get a crack or two at Enduro events due to family considerations (I have two kids under three).

cool!! grad or current student? i graduated in 06. always nice to run into a fellow bearcat on random online forums, lol

I'm one of them "older" alums. '98. :)

Wish I was a student. Would make getting good seat BBall tickets easier since current students dont seem to care...

Yup, nice to run into familiarity on random forums.

Finally got to running this race again. I decided to run the Honda Integra Type R from the new car dealership. I threw on some sport softs, a carbon hood, fixed suspension and new windows. I think this put me at 1165kg. Not sure ad I can't check right now because I just made my first pit stop at lap 20. My oppositon is the RX-7 and it just passed me on my pit. This is definately an exciting race right now. I got a 25 second lead by the 18th lap and it seems on my 20th when I pitted it was almost right behind me save for a lap car it had to pass. I will update on my next pit.

Finished it in 2h 14min. It was real fun throughout the whole event. Ended up lapping the RX-7 towards the end of the race. I think next time I am going to use a fairly stock Civic Type R.

Wanted sortof a challenge, so I used the 91 rx7, sport soft tires, suspension, and about 280hp if I remember right - it was fun, I had a huge lead towards the end and was drifting most laps (kills the tires btw). I think I finished in 2:08, with fresh tires I could get 1:59 for a couple of laps on low fuel.

Nordschliefe 4 hour this weekend.

Took a break a minute ago and saw this thread. 21 laps in.

I'm kinda new to GTP. I heard for the best experience try to match the AI car's performance, which I failed miserably.

I chose the R.E. Amemiya Asparadrink RX-7, which with Racing hards so far is a great drive.

She's smooth through the corners, but I keep having a mishap on the fast section after the first hairpin. I end up taking it a bit too fast and nearly smack the wall at the top of the hill.

Good track either way, hoping for a Night track here in future updates/DLC.:)

Just did it for the third time. This one I did with the Ferrari 599. Big disappointment...

Compared to e.g. the M3 (which made me grin ear-to-ear for the entire duration of the race) the 599's handling was a bit meh... Out of all the Ferrari's I've driven in this game, this has to be the least fun car. Finished the race in ~2h08m, but since I wasn't enjoying the car it became a bit of a drag.

I think next time I'm going to make it more challenging by taking a stock NSX.

This was a great race description. I'm glad to see people are still enjoying the Grand Valley.

Won't go off topic long (on my own thread), but my most recent enduro was Mazda and with only 5 laps to go accidentally reset the race! Ouch. They have to fix that.

Keep the reports coming!

Was doing it today in the suzuki cap. RM. Great little car, 2.12high/2.13low times, don't remember the total time honestly. But i had a great race, It was easy though even with this being 130hp or something it destroy's the opposition in the corners, on the main straight they will take som time back but after 20 rounds i had a 20+sec gab.

Second time with the FGT total time 1hour and 24min nothing special.

My Cappuccino was 137bhp i think ,i used racing softs and one pit stop .
I'm not a great driver by any stretch of the imagination and i still won comfortably, about half a lap in front of 2nd and i'd made a few mistakes.
Gonna try agin with my Fiat 500 68 ,though i dont rate my chances, last time i tried with the fiat i got lapped after about 10 laps.

I want the race to become quite a challenge, so i will choose an untuned 350Z oder a Lancer on sports hards. As i am not confindent enough in my driving skills yet, i want to ask you if it is possible to start on sports hards and equip some racing hards at a boxing stop if i would fall far behind because of a driving misstake or something like that ?

I know that this is perhaps a stupid question, but i havent completed any endurance race yet.

When I first did this I just used the Minolta, since I just wanted to get it out the way with. But since I've nothing left to do now (well, nothing I want to do, those 24 hour races can wait :embarrassed:) I'm going to try this in a more challenging car.

My 3 favourite "reasonably priced" cars aren't on the game though. :<

Hi, I tried the race with the Honda Mugen Motul Civic Si Race ‘87 using medum sport tyres, cant remember if I modified it but it had just over 200bhp

Initially I had a good race with the NSX, it had me down the straights but round the corners i had the advantage. Sadly the AI messed up its pit stop strategy it seemed to wait untill it was out of fuel or its tyres were completely dead before pitting.

I was about 5 seconds ahead on my first pitstop on lap 20 and the NSX was closing in, I came out around 40 seconds down but as the AI carried on untill its tyres were completely shot the NSX lost loads of time before its stop on lap 24. By the time it had all sorted itself out I had a 40 second lead which was a bit dissapointing!

My fastest lap was a 2:09 although it was probably around a 2:12 average, just before my pitstop my lap times dropped to 2:15 - 2:18...

I was hoping for a good close race with the NSX but the AI just killed it, if we'd had the same strategy it would of been very close at the end

Might try it with sport hards next time and see what happens!

Has anyone else had that pitting problem with the AI? (apologies if its already been mentioned)

Did this race tonight with the Peugeot 908 in 1 hour 51 mins. I opened an online room to set it up and in the race it handled like a dream. :) Only problem is if you do too many fast laps on a heavy fuel load it'll eat its tires. I made 2 stops but only by driving the last 10 laps at a slow pace. Why don't these hard slicks last longer?

Just did this race last night in the Amuse 350Z Superleggera, stock with sports hard tires. The car is a monster, and even with all aides off, it handles amazingly. Ended up winning by a minute over second place, but lapped last place twice.

Pretty funny race though if you pace yourself behind the MR2 on the 20-24th lap and watch it stumble around the track like a drunk cow on ice.

Just did my 4th GV300... This time I took the Honda NSX R'02, the fastest car the AI brings to the grid (there were 2 of those in the grid).

I used racing softs - thinking the extra pits I would need would compensate for the added speed and grip. It was still too easy and I won with 4 laps difference.

Fastest lap: 1:58.5
Total time: 2:05.02

I think next time I'll bring a Mazda RX7 with sports tyres and see how that measures up to the competition.

When I get around to doing this race it will be in the shortest time possible initially, just to finish it in the shortest time possible, as time is a premium at the moment. But I rmember the bad old days of Gt1 when you were up against the toms supras etc in the GV300. My crowning glory was taking a 440 bhp nissan pulsar and winning the race. But I was playing around 2 hrs a day every day back then. I'm lucky if I get 2 hrs a week now.

Stop using racing tyres then. The AI uses Sports Softs.

I tried doing this race last night, but I was too tired to make it through the whole thing. When I try this again at a better time, I will use a stock BMW 135i.
