You ever go to the Cars-n-coffee at briar creek?

I don't get out to Brier Creek often. I live in way north Durham, and usually work at home. When I do go to the office it is in south Durham/Chapel Hill.

Anyone driven the premium Mazda6? I realized I didn't have it last night so I threw some parts on it. Haven't taken it to the track yet. I also parted up a standard '03 Mazda6. I'll be curious to see whether either of them perform better than the Mazdaspeed6.

I'm a huge fan of all the Mazda 6. They can be tuned to be competitive in 450pp range. I prefer the 03 over the Premium one because it understeers less, but both has pretty good grip and balance for a FF.

I ran them all the other night at SSR5 Clubman and DFR. In the limited time I had to tune, I couldn't get them fast enough. They need a big swing in tuning to stop cooking the tires. I was hoping with spec 2.02 that I could tune a FF without dropping the rear end...but I didn't have any luck...actually, the best thing I found was to drop to SH tires in the rear but even that didn't do the trick. It just made the car unstable through high speed turns while not eliminating any understeer through mid-speed corners.

I'm also wondering if the antiroll bars do anything at all with regards to oversteer/understeer. They have a slight effect on the ability to drive over rumble strips on Nurburgring but otherwise show no change in handling characteristics.

ARBs works really well... there's probably something that works against the effect of the ARBs (in that case).

Edit:Your problem is probably elsewhere...

Maybe I was just expecting a drastic difference. I do notice less body roll when I increase them...but that doesn't translate to the handling I expect when I have different values for front and rear.

springs and arbs go hand in hand. the only difference is springs also control front to back "roll" whereas arbs only control side to side.

ie. a car with very stiff springs will require less arb. a car with soft springs will need more arbs (and see more effect from them)

-20 ride height?
32 Accel LSD?

I'll try it, but I don't think it will suit my style.

It does have 385 bhp, putting it up to 520 PP. If you drop the power to get it to 450 PP, you may be able to reduce the LSD settings to something you are more comfortable with.

That's my understanding of the theory.

It is also my understanding that on smooth circuits the -20 ride height won't make a difference. On some place like the Nordschleife it might not be good.

I think the new load indicator would show issues at a lot of tracks with the ride height. Good point about the extra power. Not sure I've ever driven a FF car with that much power.

Btw, GT5 has somehow modeled the suspension for front wheel drive accurately. So if you're trying to tune from a RWD background, throw your knowledge away.

NASCAR 2011- I am as big a NASCAR fan as they come, but I bought the game and was so disappointed I quit playing it. I started with the hardest setting and it was the easiest game I ever played. Also, I'm not sure about the latest updates but the sounds were disappointing. GT5 has the cup car noises right.

I just bought a mazda atenza premium...this is a good car!I went online on deep forest reverse (no cutting) and I did 1:22.150 ...I think its in the ballpark for that pp level.

anyone racing tonight? I broke one of the clamps on my G27 :grumpy:

But i drilled some holes into my $20 desk and now i'm good to go and sturdier than ever! :sly:

Last night was a bust. Only two drivers made it into my lobby before the update shut everyone out. We ran two short races with the classic muscle cars and no abs then parted ways.

I spent the rest of the evening trying to match my sub-par Mazda RX-8 time at HSR with an '03 Mazda 6. I started out 2 seconds slower and came within 3/10ths. I got most of the time from adding ballast and compensating with more performance parts. After that I tweaked the suspension and got some great high speed grip. The only issue left was burning tires through the ess curve. I tried low/high LSD settings, low/high camber, low/high ride heights, as well as tweaks to just about everything else. I made improvements, but never quite got it to the point where I could exit that final turn before the tunnel at the same speed. The RX-8 lap I was racing against wasn't the greatest either...so the Mazda6 still needs some work. It's been a while since I spent more than 10 minutes on a tune. I think I may take some time in the coming weeks to build up a few new vehicles to race on open 450pp nights.

$4.00 for a track with 2 turns? Seriously? I was really hoping route X would have some skid pads or something to test grip. No thanks.

Waitaminute...

Its an 18 mile long, high banked oval ???

A track tailor made for their imaginary Red Bull X2010 and X 2011 ? How "real driving simulator" is that ?

I can't remember the last time I saw a high speed, high banked oval which travels through shipping ports. Wasn't the final jump scene in the most recent Gone in 60 Seconds filmed at the Port of Long Beach oval ?

they got us euchred. if you want the speed tests (as many do), you buy the dlc. less to do with the track than the functionality in the game.

the car pack is good tho, i skipped the last one due to it being all fwd/awd. this one's got cars that belong on a race track instead of the mall.

Volkswagen has a track similar to this on their proving grounds. It can be seen in an episode of Top Gear where James May (Captain Slow) breaks the speed record in a Bugatti Gayron.

Accel times could be useful, but I can get the same stats from running a few laps around other tracks. I would have been happy with this DLC if they included some various radius and banked skid pads to test lateral grip. But sadly, it seems that people will only use it for drag racing and seeing how fast the X2010 will go.

What good is a top speed test? Especially when you can find out the same information on Sarthe.

I suppose it may be fun for some 1-lap Like the Wind style races if you had enough people to make it interesting.

I almost pulled out GT4 the other day just so I could race other tracks. I payed a few bucks for a used copy of Nascar 2011 for a change of pace. I got way more tracks for my dollar.

Except that half the people won't hit their top speed because of the laggy lap time bug. But regardless, everyone does this at SSR7 anyway.
