5 reasons not to consider GT5 the best game in the saga.

The only thing i dislike about GT5 is the opponents/B-spec Ai and B-spec racing, it would have been interesting if you were really the racers manager instead of giving a few commands during racing

Ok, for me this isnt the best GT ever. The best is GT1 on PS1. But, GT5 its the best race game actually on market. We have more than 1000 cars, a lot of tracks, rain, night and day, 24h races, etc... For me this game its the best on the last 10 years. Im a big fan of Gran Turismo, you can see all my collection here.

I like how you just throw numbers and stats at us as a reason for why it's good.

Tell me, what you dont like on this GT5? I dont like this game dont have the Manufactures races, like the others have. On tha others we have a lot of races, for exemple, on Honda, Renault, Audi, Subaru... We have some races only for that manufactures. In all the others Gran Turismo we need to do all the Licenses, on GT5 we dont need. On GT5 its very easy earn moneym on the others dont. This is some things i dont like on this game, but the Gameplay its very good, the graphics, the cars, the sounds...

I love GT5, I've been defending it in some ways, but the graphics are great at best and terrible at worst, there are a lot of cars, but too many duplicates and they've completely missed out on the visceral edge of a real engine. The good points of this game include online play and physics. Oh, and before you accuse me of "hating" for this, read the rest of the thread and also know that I play GT5 so much that I've not completed (among others) Skyrim (preorder), Mass Effect 2 (PS3 release purchase) and Fallout New Vegas (preorder), which is a game that's a month or two older than GT5. If you insist on pointing out the good points of GT5 please point out the actual ones or people will just laugh at you.

I only played the demo of Forza 4 at a friends house and I found the physics were weird. I drove a Subaru Impreza on sports tyres and it was sliding all over the place. It did the same even when I turned the traction control on (which I hated doing). I'm well aware that it's a better game in many ways, but as far as I'm concerned if a car that grippy tries to drift I'm not into the game. I can see why people like it though.

Edit: Were you referring exclusively to console racers? Many people here would argue that there are PC games that wipe the floor with Gran Turismo in a lot of ways, but I agree that it's currently one of, if not the best console racing game.

I love that line.

BTW how did you fit sports tyres in the demo?

Cheers.

Having just returned to GT5 after a break of many months thought I would get a few things off my chest.

First a few details to explain my perspective - I have no access to an internet service that I can connect GT5 to.
I am stuck with the original game disc with no access to quick easy money or cars.
So as you can appreciate that is my problem right there, as a stand alone gaming experience, very disappointing !
I am not impressed with having to have a robot play the game on my behalf to achieve progress and make enough paltry credits towards the beautiful cars I wish to own.
I completed all the A spec stuff up to the longer enduros and then sat back and thought, "now what ?"
Looks pretty good but has no soul and very little replay value for me, I certainly cannot see myself playing it for as long as did with the rest of the series, especially GT4.

I am along time hardcore fan of the series as those who know me will attest, but not in love with GT5. Sorry.

Greenlightning - here,

Have not posted in long time. Have went through some life changing events and have totally forgot even what my email pass word is that I originally used for this forum.

Well after about 2 years of playing GT5 have sort of jumped shipped and purchased X-box 360 set at Thanksgiving. All those photo's of liveries had finally convinced me not to mention a better variety of cars and American Muscle Cars. So far am sastisfied with Forza 4 and overall my early review would indicate it is overall better than GT5.

On the other hand GT5 is very good, models of cars very good and best of any game except for the standards. GT5 car phyics I think best of the series in lots of ways.

Why oh why and how in the world could so many things be wrong with the GT Mode. Cars never in the game before unless you count mobil as standards - come on really! Cars way way over priced compared to prizes you win even with all the online events for the common man and one of the top reasons why I have thrown in the towl. All the novility features, go carts, Nascar, track builder, race suites etc. do not add much for me.

Really Really love the GT series since game one when rented PS one and GT.
It is really sad that GT5 has so much content but so very very poorly executed. The paint system is terrible, how in the world they thought this would be acceptable and okay we will never know. Even with the cars and the tools that the game has if very well executed GT mode could of and should of been way way way better.

GT has really been the only game for PS3 for me so may be end of Sony Gaming for me also.

Post Xmas - day rant

Have always felt and wanted GT series to be the best ..... to wait so long ... to play so long ..... to dream so much of what it could be just using what they have.

Race on is all we can do GT, Forza or whatever fullfills your needs.:)

I think you got a little late to the party.
While it's not the best, it's still acceptable, but GT6 will be crucial defining GT's future, if it's still half-done probably most people will lose faith in the series. :scared:

I've already lost faith, bro :guilty:

As for the OP points:

5.- Yep, standards were big letdown... I still like them, some of the best cars in the game are standards, so I don't have that much problem with them... but this should be the last time we see them...

4.- GT5's one of many weak points... DLC's have been good, but they are not on the level of, let's say, FM4.

3.- Getting gold in Licenses has always been hard for me, but in this game, it isn't as hard as you say... I got some golds without even pushing it hard...

2.- Loading times were bad when the game first came out, but now I think they are quite acceptable...

1.- PP is a good idea, but PD implemented it thw wrong way (like many new feats on GT5)... if they can get it right for GT6, online and offline modes will get instantly better.

Got a little disappointed after a week of continuous GT5 playing, and wanted to share this view about the game in order to see wheter there is someone else who radically hates this game (without not being able of living without it, of course)

5. Standard models
Yes, I know standard models are a way to put more cars in the game and we may bless the GT4 models recycling, thanks to which we have 1000+ cars and not 200 as in Gt3, but seriously... it took two years to them to realize how they could put custom wheels on them... and they're supposed to be the best programmers in the world. I mean, in GT2 you could put custom wheels on your car, and those weren't definitively Premium Models!

4. DLC
Yes, that awesome period when we all thought about a simulator which updated once in a while in order to always have new cars and so. We dreamt about 10 minutes to get 5-6 new cars in a months, and not of 30 minutes to update the game when it's evening, you come across the PS3 with no idea about what to do and your only wish is racing for less than 5 minutes on Trial Mountain, that 30 minutes only to discover they've added 3 new cars I can't even buy, because they all require real money.

3. Special events & License tests
In the previous chapters, acquiring gold licenses was fun. I mean, when you bought the game you got all the bronze licenses, or maybe some silver ones, and then, after playing a while, you got gold ones. In Gt2 it was relatively easy, apart from that Rome-Night-Alfa155 thing, in Gt4 it was human, in GTPSP extremely simple, in GT5 impossible. I mean, how can I get a gold license when even the CPU demo is slower than the required time? At least show me how you can do it! Some of the test require perfect skill and even more perfect luck: today I spent 15 minutes trying to realize where I had to brake with an Audi TT in the A-1 test, and I got something like 20 attempts under 16.350 before finally going under 16.300. Why?!

2. Loading times

There's no game in the GT saga as slow as GT5. Slowest in loading tracks, unbelievably slow in detecting network problems, slow in everything. There are times I think my ps3 has problems reading the disc, when I remember the content should have been installed on the HDD... why? Why has it to be so slow? When you reach the "Seasonal events" after 5 minutes of unnecessary loading time, you happen to choose the wrong one, only to wait another minute just to load 2 images of the tracks and the data concerning your reward. Not to talk about when you actually select the single race into the event: 30 seconds to load the scenery, and you're stuck for 2 minutes looking at an "Eni" advertisement and the blue sky. Even the loading noises from the cd drive of the Ps1 were more interesting!

1. The PP system
A PP system. What a clever idea! A pity they managed to realize it the worst way they could. My Dodge Viper of the late 90s has got 550pp or little less, while my BMW M3 of year 2004's got 496, and the later is 3 second faster than the former at Tokyo R246. I have a TVR V8s I love to drive: 447PP, enough to be beat by every car in its class. Not to talk about the 430PP of an Alfa Romeo GTA of the 60s... how can I compete Mugen S2000s and similar beasts with 160HP?
There's an unbelievably large amount of this cases, like the 600PP Ferrari F40 or the 516PP Mercedes SL600 (1998), and what's the result? The result is, yesterday evening I joined two different rooms for the 550PP class: saw nearly 15 cars, 11 were BMW M3s, 2 BMW M3 CSL a 350Z maybe and some other non-M3 cars which ended in the last positions. Why is it so stupid? It doesn't care about LSD, suspension tuning and other 1000 things the game includes and PP doesn't.

And all these things come between an amazing moment and another, when your soul is filled with admiration for the spectacular graphics or for your close win after 5 laps of perfect driving. In such moments you're literally in love with the game and you feel you may keep playing for hours... then you say, "Why don't I try that new Seasonal?" ending up in turning the whole thing off after that long waiting and writing here your disapprovement for PD.

I agree with this 150% by far the biggest disappointment in the gt series... Even though it has online means nothing to me because me and my frinds use to have lan matches with gt4 and the online in gt5 is filled with noobs anyways

GT5 is the best GT so far for me.

Why? Cause I still play it.👍

I honestly cannot play GT4 and GT3 to the same anger as I do with GT5.

And another thing for those of you that think the pp system is perfect you are sooo wrong.. I ran a series with the race mod cars ( silivia s15 , dc5 integra , ek civic) and we had to run the ff cars 15 to 10 pp more than the silvia just to get the cars even out... abd the silvias where still .5 to 1 second faster a lap with the really good drivers.. and ive come across this problem with other cars.. spoon s2000 only makes 498pp max and i walk cars all the way up to 510 pp with it.. so explain that to me.. or my lexus is200j that only makes like 490 pp and still can keep up with 500pp cars.. These are just a few examples i have so many more..

I see a picture of... evidence of obsession? Every entry in the series after GT1 has more cars, more tracks, better graphics, better physics, etc. Yes the transmission graph was omitted in GT2, that was a mistake.

GT5 has incredible graphics and physics, online racing, trading cars and paints with friends, racing clubs and series with real people, DLC... what's not to love? Oh yeah, those few nitpicky things that make GT5 imperfect. Well the truth is that every software program is imperfect and there will always be plenty people who find and focus on the flaws.

I'm just trying to have fun with my games. :)

There are many who feel the same as you, they voted in this poll. Interesting results huh?

Well yes, it is a bad game due to many reasons but it is still good.

Bad reasons -

Engine Sounds: Forza 4's engine sounds are greater IMO

Lack of cars in dealerships: There are many cars in the game but in UCD there are few cars everyday and you have to wait. They should atleast add cars from the year that racing started until a new year, for example 1943-2012, then when a new year comes, update the game and add the cars that year.

Amount of Racing - Add more races like C-Spec, D-Spec, etc.

So yeah those are the bad reasons.

GT5 is barebones in the career department, and hit or miss on the online department. Standard cars are a wash, some I can't stand and others I covet. Physics are top notch for a controller user at least. Other than those things, GT5 has seen the most use in my PS3 after Netflix.

I don't think any game of mine would beat Netflix honestly.

No it's the best in my opinion. There are a few problems such as the very short A/B spec career. Only two 24h races and they both use le mans cars. The way your car looks when surrounded by smoke.
That's about it.
Also, I think the reason we don't grid start often is because we accelerate off the line faster than the AI. Atleast I do anyways. I get in 1st so quickly even with stock cars.

ok, if you thing Gran Turismo 5 is ****, then go anywhere else, playing burnout or NFS.
man is here a negativ energy in this thread here...
in my opinion, it's the best racing game, ever made.

You don't get to tell people what to do just because they don't like GT5.

I think the DLC in GT5 is more than fair, and in my opinion, the correct way to DLC.
It took a year for the first DLC to come out, which is better than having DLC released on the first day or in less than a month of release.
When you compare the DLC from GT5 to the Forza series or the Need For Speed franchises, you will understand that the DLC is very reasonable.
Finally not to mentioned that PD has given us plenty of free content; Updates Nascars, Chevrolet Corvette C7, GT Acadamy Cars etc.

The things I don't like about GT5 that make me not want to play it sure as heck aren't nit picky.

You are right. Your reasons for not liking GT5 are just as valid as my reasons for liking it. My apologies.

You don't get to tell people what to do just because they don't like GT5.

They can do what they want, so long as it's allowed by the AUP. :)

I will just say right now from experience that the mods don't like it when members tell others to leave.

I love GT5 personally and yes I've played NFS and a little Forza and while the casual racing fan may love those games I personally can't stand them. Everyone has their own opinion but If you want to have more American Cars then buy other games and enjoy those too, no one is saying you gotta be loyal to one franchise. No game is going to do everything 100% the way you like it.

If any of you guys played the new nfs most wanted that's the kind of car sounds i want in granturismo
