7th GTP F1 World Championship (F1 2010 edition) * SEASON FINISHED :'''( *F1 2010-2016

Pretty average race from me.

Once the field spread out, Turkey became some of the most boring racing I've had in a long time. I guess I just don't feel there is much to do during a lap of the circuit, especially that third sector.

Looking forward to seeing Tom's recording of our late-race scraps, though. The first time he got by me and then I snuck back through as he let Pipeslice by to lap him, and the second time I decided to spin ahead of him accidentally and we almost collected Shaggy Alonso who had the misfortune of catching us at that moment. Fun stuff 👍

It was a fantastic race, I really did think that I was going to overtake you on the last lap but it was to no avail, I'm in the process of uploading the video now, only 600 Minutes to go

Overall I'd have to say I'm satisfied with my race. Not to say there isn't room for improvement. The nerves were at an all time low, I qualified ok, a full second off my pb, but far from the worst I've done.

I drew 4th in the lottery, made me a little anxious, but hey, you have to start somewhere right? Decided to brake early and sneak up the inside, trying to avoid any mayhem that seems to happen in turn 1. Coming out of the corner, I thought, sweet here we go when Shaggy comes across the front of my car and damages my wing. In my confusion, I thought I'd caused it and slowed to let Shaggy past. Turns out it was one of those race things, doh.

I soldier on, wing damage seems minimal. I start to make some inroads, I get past Nervus on lap 2 and have my sights set on Jordy, team bragging rights on the line. He goes wide into the final chicane and I sneak up the inside.

On lap 6 Tom makes a mistake in turn 2 and I get past him. Towards the end of lap 7 I'm catching up to Mike at the end of the final straight. Seems like Mikes tires have gone off as he's having real issues in the final chicane, I slow so I don't smoke Mike coming into the final corner and all of a sudden Tom's beside me, we touch, I mash the throttle and get sideways. Good thing the mic was off.

From there I couldn't catch Tom and settled into my usual lonely drive.

Good fun, see you all in the homeland next week

Friggin' Youtube, told me I was able to upload vids longer than 15 minutes. So I edited them into three with the first two a shade over 16 minutes. Youtube rejected them for being too long. Will upload the redited videos tonight, sorry.

Had a decent race, not horrible as i was expecting. Would have came 9th if i hadnt lost my front wing, had a good battle with nervus which was good fun, the mistakes I made really cost me as I definitely had pace here. Going to really put some practice in for next week as I want to be more competitive. I think Ken and Tom are usually on practicing most so if I could join in these sessions that would be great, will add you guys on psn tomorrow.

Hey jordy, would love to practice with you! My time zone is Mountain (GMT -7), hopefully that works out!

EDIT: I noticed after the fact you're from Northern Ireland, we'll work something out. At a minimum, you and Tom should be able to have some good sessions during the week.

Things from my perspective.

Missed qualifying completely because my internet connection was playing up. In actual fact it was b/c my housemates were downloading torrents which I've asked them to only do at night as Virgin apparently cap the bandwidth when it recognises torrent usuage. When you guys were qualifying, I was logging into my router to change the wifi password cause I was kind of pissed. Anyway this worked a treat and I managed to join you guys on a random grid.

I was positioned in 8th, one behind Pipeslice and I think Baumi was right behind me in last place. I got a great start but I didn't really want to push things so I braked early for turn one allowing for a clean inside line. Also I hadn't driven with full fuel at Istanbul at all in practice leading up to the race so I had that in my mind too.

Coming out of turn 1 I had to brake hard to avoid the Shaggy incident but managed to avoid contact and get myself up to turn three in 6th position (?). Baumi had gotten a great start as he was ahead and I could see Mike there too. I set about to catching them up which took a few laps as I was figuring out my lines again (I really need to put some practice in for Montreal so that I'm not fine tuning my lines/breaking points during the start of the race!). During this time Shaggy has got over his earlier incident and was catching me, I went wide coming out of turn 7 and I yielded into turn 8.

I remember I made a mistake and soon he was a few seconds ahead of me but once he caught Mike and Baumi he was fighting them for position which allowed me time to catch back up again. It was during this time where I actually punted into my team mate again at turn 12. Shaggy was seemingly miles ahead of me going down that straight but I think he was trying a manoeuvre on Baumi because it seemed like he was slow through that corner. I braked at the usual 150 mark but he was right on the apex and I ended up putting him into a little spin. Sorry about that.

Anyway after that I set about trying to catch Baumi and I did so on lap 7-8 maybe. Seemed like he had had a moment because he suddenly appeared on the final complex of the lap. I was very close going into turn 1 and on the exit he lost the back end allowing me to an easy pass. From here I just focussed on being consisent and keeping the gap between me and him around 2-3 seconds. Baumi must have been struggling on his soft tyres because he pitted around lap 9 perhaps whilst I managed until lap 11 I think. The gap between us after I had come out of the pits was about 2seconds and the race was on!

From here I don't really remember that much detail about the time difference between us both - I'm finding I mostly use the mini map to judge how far ahead I am. I remember I had a good few seconds coming out of the pits which I managed to maintain for a few laps. This was followed by some sloppy laps which allowed Baumi to be right up the back of me for a lap or so - but a combination of me getting my **** together and him having some hairy moments allowed be to steadily build a lead. By the end of the race he wasn't on my minimap at even the slower corners so I guess I had managed to lose him :)

Anyway, another good duel between Baumi and I :)

the only other thing of note was how in the middle of the race I was so ****ing close I was to ending it all when Nervous decided to slow down (so I could lap him) on the apex of turn 8. Inches away from taking him out and losing a front wing. Heart in mouth stuff. I suppose I deserve it after ruining his qualifying at Catalunya I suppose :D These things are usually best dealt with on straights though.

I guess the next step for me is to try and mix it with the top 3 if possible. Probably wishful thinking.

The random grids do make for some top quality racing though!

I slow so I don't smoke Mike coming into the final corner and all of a sudden Mr. Hamilton er Tom gives me a tap from the inside. I mash the throttle a get sideways. Good thing the mic was off.

Umm Ken, from what I can see on my footage it seems as if you turned in on me but maybe i'm wrong, I didn't feel as if it was my fault at the time hence why I didn't give the place back 👍

EDIT: Ken I apologize, looking at the footage, I did hang out too dry by running you off the wide off the road but from what I can see I didn't tap you 👍

From my perspective it looked like you caught me amid ships, well into the exit of the corner. I didn't think I'd turned into you.

Either way, it was more me mashing the throttle that caused me lost time than the tap with you. More learnings for me 👍

I'll get my video posted tonight, it'll be interesting comparing views :)

post it and i'll be the judge!

No need for a judge, I watched it back again and Tom was well within his rights to be where he was. I pulled a very sloppy chicane, he was carrying more speed than me, and I didn't pay enough attention to the proximity indicator. Fortunately, I didn't take any parts off Tom's car :)

It's funny how in the heat of the moment it's easy to blame the other driver. In hindsight, I should have been way more defensive in the line I took through the chicane. That would have forced Tom to slow down or go wide. File that away in the memory banks.

**** sake, i was hoping for a bit of scandal

you guys are all too nice, we need a proper Schumi - Hill moment to spice things up a bit

Hey I'm Canadian, I can't handle scandal :)

Funny thing, I didn't see Tom's edit till just now.

Seeing the videos should be interesting.

Mutu, there should be all kinds of opportunity for scandal at Montreal!

Yeah Tom that was kind of silly, you just dove up the inside there and Ken had no warning that you were going to do that. You were always going to come across his line. Ken, you could be doing with using you're rear view as I notice you basically don't use it but still, I but that incident down to Tom because he is the once who has a full view of everything.

Tom definitely should have waited, don't know how you thought it was his fault to be honest. He had track position and the racing line. It would have been a bigger impact had Ken actually hit the apex.

I tend to get a little disoriented when I use the rearview and I certainly wouldn't consider using it in a chicane. I'll try it out in some practice races, see if I can get used to it.

It would have been a bigger impact had Ken actually hit the apex.

One of the many I missed!

When I get back into a race for position, I have a real tendency to make mistakes. Witness, I started catching Mike and missed my brake point into the final chicane, then drove poorly through the chicane. It's a pattern I need to change :dunce:

Well I waited 14 hours for the video to upload and then Youtube tells me the video is too long! 🤬 Still i'm in the process of making them 15 mins long each, they'll be up soon :)

I'm going to reserve judgement till I see Tom's video. Looks mainly his fault, but it could be said that Ken did nothing to defend his position and didn't check behind him. That said, it does look like Tom wasn't alongside Ken at all when Ken started to turn into the corner. You've gotta be a least half way up the inside of someone already before they turn in or else you're almost always at fault for the collision.

For anyone wondering what we're talking about, skip to 11:00 of this video:

According to that video, Tom was nearby/alongside already in turn 12 when kcheeb goes wide (the proximity marker is visible). At this point I think kcheeb should have guessed that Tom might have caught him up as he has been held up a little by mike and also gone wide which lost a bit of time. So its not surprising that Tom is going to be right there behind him.
Then the next corner Tom backs off a little but then sees the gap appear as kcheeb moves to take a wide entry into turn 14. At this point I think its fair for Tom to try a move as he is very close, a gap is there, overtakes are possible in turn 14 and its fair for him to assume kcheeb has at least guessed or noticed him.

I call this a racing incident, Tom could have avoided contact by not trying the move but it was a fair move to try and he would have pulled it off if kcheeb had known he was there. Equally, kcheeb has a fair excuse that he is in a busy part of the circuit and would be focusing on the car ahead who was also very close. I'd be tempted to blame the defending driver more in this case though for not keeping track of his opponents, especially in an area of the circuit where overtaking is quite common and when he should know a driver is close behind (as Tom had been closing the past few laps) plus making a mistake into turn 12/being blocked which would have allowed Tom to quickly close into a position to overtake.
But its not easy to keep track of all these things and an easy mistake to make. So as I say, I'd call it a racing incident.

Also, I think Tom could have pulled a cleaner overtake as kcheeb actually did completely miss his apex for turn 14 and Tom could have pulled the move cleanly if he had given much more space and taken a tighter line. There might have been contact still, but it wouldn't have been as bad. The reason kcheeb gets knocked so badly and spun appears to be because Tom took a wide exit line, perhaps if he had taken a tighter exit line he would have avoided contact.

Racing incident in my opinion :)

Ferrari went wide corner before [Got distracted by driver in front me thinks] and was way too slow into the next corner, Looks like it caught the Williams out and he had a go [Rightfully so], could have made the move stick if it was cleaner i think.

All in all, it was a racing incident.
I would have given the place back though
Sorry, Im outta here :P

I just watched Tom's video of the 'incident' :)

I'm standing by my last comment on it.

I needed to be more aware of what was going on around me, not just what's happening in front of me. There's a pretty good chance, seeing what Tom saw, I'd have tried to sneak up there too.

Could Tom have prevented it by not trying the move, sure, but then it's not racing, it's follow the leader. I left the door more than a little open.

Cheers and thanks for all the feedback, helping me get better!

K guys, i'm in a little bit of a pickle as to what time to hold the race at this Sunday. The real Canadian GP will not start till 18:00 UK time. Would 21:00 UK time be ok for everyone (just one hour later than usual)? I may have to forgo watching the race and record it, in which case everyone has to promise not to mention it before our race!

Can you make it this weekend Ardius?

Is it possible to run our race prior to the actual race?

I'm good for either time

A little early, but I wanted to give everyone a heads up.

Tom and I are trying to tee up a practice session Saturday morning/afternoon at Montreal. The earliest I can be ready to race is 07:00 MDT, 09:00 EDT and 14:00 UK time.

Hopefully we can get a few people on the track!
