7th GTP F1 World Championship (F1 2010 edition) * SEASON FINISHED :'''( *F1 2010-2016

lol ken nightmare 2nd half of the race

was there a particular reason why you let Ali past you?

Oh yeah, the second half was not good! I thought Ali was a race leader, when I checked back I could have sworn I saw Dark's tag, so I slowed. As Ali went roaring past, I filled the air with expletives :)

EDIT: The bump into the wall on lap 25 was caused by me sliding through the corner, I think it was pipeslice caught me real fast and nudged me into the wall. more blue air. And then I take my jack man out pitting to fix the wing, lol.

EDIT: I meant my slide caused pipeslice to catch me real fast and he had no option but to nudge me. wasn't trying to point fingers, it was my mistake no doubt.

cheeky from Mike at the end there, bit of an aggressive line change in the braking zone which ended up bumping you off

That's kind of what I thought, I haven't had a chance to look at it yet, but again, the expletives were flying!

Race Report - overall I'm happy with my progress. Montreal isn't an overly difficult circuit to memorize, plus I've had two weeks of driving it. It's a little harder to execute as the chicanes are extremely sensitive to your initial angle of attack!

Somewhat typical start, bit of a dog's breakfast but got it all sorted and pointed down the track. Seemed to make some kind of a mistake in all the battles I had that ended up costing me position, mistakes will do that I've heard. Had some nice battles with Tom, Baumi, Ardius, Ali and Mike. I've got to say it was really nice to be involved in some racing for position. It really didn't feel like a solo drive this time.

I'm taking this as a positive and can hopefully build on it!

Well done all!

regardless i was on for breaking the 1:14s barrier in full wets thanks to one of the best laps ive done round Montreal (and some helpful drafting thanks to Ali) before I jumped a kerb

Yea about that you were catching right up with me but I was on a flying lap and couldn't rlet you past because I only managed two successful flying laps the whole quali, that lap being one of them, the same happened the lap before with someone else and ruined my lap so was no way I was gona pull over that time, I was hopeing you'd get enough speed from the slip stream to pass me but I guess the straight wasn't long enough lol

Well it turns out that picking your braking point in Valencia is a lot harder that I anticipated :nervous:

Valencia's going to be a lot of fun :) From what the Wiki says, not a lot of places for overtaking, emphasis on Qualifying.

And to top it off, I'm learning two layouts this week! I'm trying the F1 2010 Time Trial, just in case I was feeling better about my skills :)

I think Valencia will have quite a lot of overtaking this wkend, lots of long straights with big braking zones.

Will try and get my first bit of practice for the track in tonight.

I hope so, I was just reading the wiki about it and thought it might translate. And as you know, the wiki never lies!!!

Oooof, you're right. That first corner inncodent looks a hell of a lot sketchier from the POV of the car trailing me than it felt in the race. :ill:

I have to try and establish a wide comfort zone for Valencia, where I am getting good laptimes without pushing. It seems I really paid for some dumb mistakes I made last race while pushing.

Overtaking at Valencia requires the car in front to make a mistake on a corner before a straight or for you to have significantly more pace than them. In a fair fight with only a small pace difference, its very difficult to catch and complete an overtake here.
Once you are close enough though, there are plenty of places to pull the move off, its just getting into that zone is harder than other tracks as you can't take a compromised line to force the overtake, its based entirely on slipstreaming and superior corner exits.

I generally find the run through sector 1 to turn 8 sets up overtakes quite nicely though and if it doesn't give a successful overtake, it helps build up one on the long straight after 10.
The kerbs at turn 5 make it difficult to really nail a good exit consistently though and its easy to take too much and spin or run wide with understeer.

It can get processional if people don't make mistakes. There really is only one way to go with setup as downforce isn't hugely necessary and as long as you practice, its a fairly easy racing line.

It really doesn't help that this track only really allows one racing line, so most of the time overtakes can get messy if the guy in front doesn't notice or doesn't yield. I think everyone needs to pay extra care in the early laps, this track is deceptive in making inside-line overtakes look easy and clean.

I'm finding the video very helpful for me. I can sit back and see what I'm doing right and wrong. A lot of times in race I seem to have a different view of what's going on around me.

Yeah put walls up around me and limit my sight lines and I get tense for some reason :)

Fwiw, pushing rarely works out for me.

Well i'm having my hair cut for charity in a month, so excuse me if i'm a bit preoccupied with things 👍

Sorry guys. I don't have time for practice and it's pointless. All best for league I'm must let go... I drive more GT5 now. Bye & good luck:tup:

This sucks, i'm sorry to hear that. Was nice racing you Upuaut anyway, good luck in the future.

wow Ken you are driving so much better that when you first joined - brilliant. Some great racing with Baumi at the end of the first video there.

I agree, Ken was driving visibly better once he stuck on those primes, getting into his groove. Everyone is improving, everyone's pushing each other into getting better.

Valencia is a track I feel as if i'm good at - I enjoy it and I think I have some good lines through it - but the lap times have never stacked up with this feeling, I seem to excel more on other tracks for whatever reason.

cool invite sent, its open so im just going to wait for a bit.

also I cant be arsed cooking so ive ordered a pizza, might have to go answer the door at some point

yeah I saw that but I was more interested in getting the feel of the track. Will need to try again tomorrow.

but! my pizza arrived just at the end of quali so you binning it was a blessing in disguise :)

I wasn't so sure about the set up I tried. I was losing it a lot after heavy braking and also on exits. idk, I need to get a proper go at the circuit still.

Hey guys, tables are updated; Pipeslice has entered into the title battle proper after that result 👍

So who's on for tomorrow night? If I opted to start the race earlier than usual tomorrow, say at 7pm UK time, is there anyone who couldn't make that time?

I'm sorry shaggy but the earliest I can ever make is 8pm.
